Not sure what happened to this place. It used to be very good. I hadn't been there in a while, but went back with my wife and we ordered an agua fresca (sandía) and a fruit cup (watermelon, pineapple, and grapes). My wife said the agua didn't have hardly any ice and was not as sweet as it used to be. My fruit cup was big, but the fruit was lacking. The fruit cups (really fruit towers) were impressive and overflowing. I just stuck with a mangonada with chamoy and tajin AND a agua fresca limonada. So, my daughter was thinking an chocolate ice cream in a cup, but when they told her they had cookies and cream, she quickly traded. What she got was a tall cup with two huge scoops of cookies and cream ice cream. She was sooooo excited. My son wanted a raspa, he was thinking blueberry, but the only blue they had was chicle (bubble gum) and coconut. He went with the bubble gum. He got a 8" tall cup of double syrup'd snow cone. My mangonada looked delicious. It came loaded with chamoy, tajin, and a tamarindo stick. My son, wished he would have ordered it, so we traded off an on. The limonada was tall. I saved it for later. The whole lot of it totaled up to a whopping $12. Wow. Everything tasted great, the service was quick and the outdoor seating was available. This is definitely one of my favorite fruterias in town. First off, they have a drive-thru. Convenient, healthful food is hard to come by most days, but Fruteria la Mission takes care of me in that regard. I usually order their large fruit cup--the term "large" being an understatement by the way. This thing is massive--a two-story home of a fruit cup. It's dressed with chile and lime, giving you sweetness, heat, and acid with each bite. The quality of the fruit is excellent too. There's a good variety of fruits and textures going on in each cup, ranging from watermelon to mango, cucumber to coconut, and so on. It's soooo good! I crave this place all the time, but especially during the warmer months. The drive-thru is efficient. This place is usually bumping when we go, and we never have to wait in line for a crazy amount of time. The staff is friendly, making this happy experience all the better. I have been coming to this place off and on for years, today I was taking back by general disorder. The line for the drive thru was out to the street, the parking lot was chaos, cars parked in random spots blocking other vehicles. I went with my elder Dad and he needed to use the restroom, we asked (3) different employees and they all gave us unclear answers and my Dad was not able to use their facility. I should have walked away but we proceeded to order two large fruit cups, and wow. The pineapple pieces about knocked my teeth out, they are serving the CORE of the pineapple, cut in chunks to make them look like regular pineapple, not cool. And not to mention the strawberries in my cup were mostly bad, spoiled. This place is convenient in my neighborhood but I choose to take my business elsewhere going forward. The parking area is all gravel so be careful when driving through it. There's only outdoor seating, no indoor. Wish there were fans outside while you sit to eat. Not sure if I over looked it but the cups only come in one size. Two people can share it. They take special requests, which is great because I don't like melon or honey dew. I got a lot of pineapple core in mine though but the rest of the fruit was absolutely delicious. I asked for the chile seasoning in the side because some places go nuts and they give you a sealed baggie, not a ziplock. Wow oh wow! This place is amaaaazing! We ordered quite a few things and I kept saying out loud "Wow!" With every bite and item I tried. They have quite the multitude of agua frescas: sandia (watermelon), fresa (strawberry), pina (pineapple), horchata and so so so much more! Even a cucumber one. All taste just like the fruit because they use real fruit and there are actual pieces of fruit in each. They also come in the largest cups so I suggest sharing unless you're super thirsty. Next we tried the elote and o-m-g this was so great. Also came in a really large cup with all the fixings, chili powder, butter, sour cream, and queso! So delicious and flavorful. We got 3 ague frescas and 1 elote for only a total of $11! And for the best part - the fruit! One cup of the fruit (which you can see from the pictures they have to wrap with saran wrap they give you so much) is only $6.50!! That's less than what it would cost you to get these fruits at the grocery store. The cup contained: watermelon, strawberry, cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, mango, jicama, and my favorite - coconut. All topped with chili powder. SO DELICIOUS. Definitely share this with someone unless you are a fruit eating fiend. They also do party platters so keep that in mind. If you like your aguas frescas with a good amount of ice you might have to ask for extra. They've got a drive thru, a walk-up window, and I think there is a door to go inside although I've never been inside before. We were on a trip so this place was definitely in my agenda when we were in San Antonio. I have read the reviews and saw tik tok on this place with their massive fruit cups. Super excited when we drove there. I decided to park and walk up there but it was confusing if you could order through the window for walk ups. I went back to the car, got in line for drive through and proceeded to the first window. Ordered the corn in the cup, one fresh watermelon juice, one fruit cup with all the chili toppings and another fruit cup without any. Went through to the second window and the guy was super nice and suggested getting another drink for half off. So I ordered a pineapple mixed with strawberry. The drinks came and he motioned us around the corner to wait for the other items. The drinks were superb..fresh with chunks of fruit bits in them! Definitely get those! The corn in the cup came and they had tied the fruit cups in a bag. The corn in the cup is one of the best that I had tasted..buttery filled with the cheese and chilli. After we drove off and opened the fruit cup bag, was disappointed that the toppings that were supposed to be on one of them weren't there. It was just fruit cups with mostly grapes, cantaloupe, cucumber, jicama and watermelon. Nothing too special without the saucy topping..however the fruits must be sitting out too long in those cups because in the evening when we got to the hotel, they were already testing sour and soupy. The aguas frescas are really good! I got the agua de limon and my friend got the agua de pina. I got the limon because I'm not a fan chunks of fruit in my agua, if you do then you will like their drinks here. It is pretty inexpensive so if you are only getting a drink you should make sure you have cash because there is a $5 minimum for credit/debit transactions. I think we have found the BEST fruit cups in SA so far.... at the one and only Mission Fruit Cups! My favorite part about their fruit cups is how they are customizable and the fruit is ALWAYS fresh, and always ice cold. What really sets Mission apart from all of the other fruit cup impostors is that their fruit cups are made RIGHT! I love for my fruit to be layered so that I can sample every fruit in each bite, with copious amounts of salt, chile, and lime evenly distributed throughout the entire fruit cup and not just slathered on the top! A huge plus: no seeds in their watermelon chunks, plus no seeds in their watermelon agua frescas! Yes, Mission Fruit Cups certainly does fruit cups right. Their corn cups are sinfully delicious and I have found that no other place even compares. Perfect amount of spice... not too many pieces of stringy corn pieces (yuck!) and the ingredients just marry together so perfectly. Any of their aguas that you so choose will be tasty, with big chunks of your agua fresca fruity preference. We've also tried their cheesy nachos and Frito pie, your usual snack-stand stand-bys. My one qualm: their customer service is a hit or miss. Last time I went, the lady at the second window coldly dismissed me as if my order was complete and it was not. I had to knock on the window and talk to her while she was making a rude face, but that was easily taken care of by me asking to speak with someone else. Also, if you are not familiar with la Spanish (which you SHOULD be!) then I suggest you take a Spanish-English dictionary, glossary, or translation apparatus with you to assist with your order. My favorite fruit stand in the city! In any city! You can't go wrong here because there are so many choices. Fruit cups with chili, deliciously fresh Aguas Frescas, corn in a cup, Mexican sodas, Popsicles and treats of all kinds. I love taking visitors to San Antonio here to see a little of what the city is about with the view of downtown, and it's even better now that the SA Public Library has restored the beautiful drive in across the street. The traffic on the road drove me crazy because of the construction but it will be cleared up soon as the roads are almost repaired. I work nearby and pass this place to go home, and as often as the red light turning mess will allow, I stop. The drive thru attendants are genuine and even a little funny with their after hours tequila jokes. (I think they must know I work with kids all day!)
