This is one of my happy places. The coffee is the best in the city and the food and ambiance are amazing.

While in the area I stumbled upon Barrio Barista when I was looking for a spot to get some work done and hang out with my Mom for a coffee. Yelp steered me right and brought me here on a Thursday morning. Walking in I wasn't sure if this was only a coffee/tea spot or if they sold cocktails and beers too. The bar area and decor lends itself to look like an old bar and it has great vibes! No beer or cocktails here but they do have a seemingly delicious menu! We didn't eat anything while we were here because we had breakfast prior to coming in. The menu had an array of offerings and sandwiches that I could see myself coming back and trying in the future. I ordered a Mexican Mocha and my mom had a cold brew. Service was fast and friendly. We found a nice spot close to the windows and I was able to look around at all the relics around and displayed at the front entrance. After we got our drinks, one of the owners or managers, walked around offering delicious slices of lemon frost cake. I was so appreciative that this just made our delicious coffee even better! I saw many students and other folks reading and studying while we were here. The atmosphere lends itself to do so too as it is chill, quiet, and quaint. I will definitely be back again. This spot was super unique and I really love their smart branding and logos/brand identity. read more

This Westside gem gives speakeasy vibes. I was greeted immediately upon walking in. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Hours of operation are M-F. Savory and sweet items on the menu to choose from. I had the Westside Barbacoa grilled cheese and tomato soup combo and Mexican mocha. I enjoyed my meal in a cozy, intimate booth where I relaxed and enjoyed a local jazz radio station while I ate. Lots of seating and plugs to hook up your electronics. I have been going to Barrio Barista for a little over a year now since I moved to San Antonio and the coffee is great every single time. The best thing I like about any coffee shop and what I look for is consistency. And this place hits the mark every single time as far as good flavor and consistency. Their pastries taste great and the barista is very kind. They make an effort to get to know you. Love this place. It's been a staple in the west side for a few years now and I'm thankful the owner did something like this for the community. Maybe it's my imagination but I feel like it really kicked off the coffee community for the raza, now we see other Latin influenced coffee shops locally, and a plethora of them too. If you have the pleasure of meeting the owner definitely shake his hand he's a sweet fellow with lots of character. The baristas are amazing and their menu has lots of love & passion throughout. I ordered the grilled cheese brisket sandwich with avocado and a side of tomato soup--hands down the best combo I've ever had. The sandwich was perfectly crispy, loaded with flavor, the brisket was tender and smoky, and the creamy avocado just took it over the top. The tomato soup tied it all together in the coziest way possible. And I can't forget the pumpkin spice horchata iced latte--it absolutely blew me away. Needed to find a place to kill time for about an hour and this popped up. Such a cool place with lots of trinkets around. I ordered the breakfast croissant and it was very tasty. Absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is calm and dim with jazz playing, plenty of seating available. I tried the brisket sandwich and added avocado, so so good! Hubs got the brisket tacos, added avocado. Coffee was good. They do have a punch card and the 8th is free. read more

I found this cute little place by searching yelp. It was only four minutes from our Airbnb. Their drinks looked fun and creative so we gave it a shot. Originally, I only wanted to get coffee, but once I saw their cool food menu, I couldn't resist the brisket tacos. They offered to put beans as a bottom layer and I'm so glad she suggested it. I got corn tortillas instead of flour. And added avocado. Omg delicious! I got an iced Horchta latte. Yummmm! Would highly recommend coming here multiple times to try out all the drinks. If someone tries the pecan oatmeal, please let me know lol. Also a great place to get some work done. It's been a long while since I stopped by this place. A cute batista that's known for its coffee and fancy grill cheeses. The parking in the front is pretty interesting, so if you don't really like backing out into incoming traffic, I would suggest going on the side of the building to park your car. When you first go inside, you can immediately smell the coffee. You can see people studying and not noisy at all (nice place to go if you want to chill and relax). The ladies in the front were very nice and worked hard to help the people with orders. The menu was on the television screen, so I was able to see what I wanted to get. They took my order quick and was able to find a seat just as fast. They brought out the food first fairly quickly. I had ordered a grill cheese sandwich with barbacoa and avocado, which tasted great. So simple, and they gave a lot of meat so I didn't feel cheated. I had also ordered tomato soup on the side, which was absolutely the best. I dipped my sandwich in it and gave so much flavor (definitely recommend the soup to anyone). Just as I was about finished with my food, the lady brought out the coffees. I did find odd that the drinks took so long to come out, but there was only one person making coffee for everyone. She was so nice she even told me that if I didn't like my drink, I could come up and get something else free of charge. Lucky for her, the coffees tasted good to me. The caramel Frappuccino was good and sweet enough. I had also ordered a hot Mex Mocha (basically a coffee Mexican hot chocolate) and loved the cinnamon in it. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone if you just want a quick stop and need a place to relax. Be aware though this place isn't open all day only in the mornings and part of the afternoon. read more

Where do I start...this place very nice the staff was courteous. I love the outside and inside. Have many places to sit. I had the Barbacoa Grilled Cheese with the tomato soup!!!! It was phenomenal!!! The Barbacoa was not greasy it was just right with the cheese and the toasted bread with that slight burn taste hit so good and the soup was amazing. I had the Iced Horchata and that was amazing too. I know it only open during the week but if I could take one day a week off from work to try everything I would!! While getting our son settled in for his move to San Antonio we found this place and decided we would give it a try. The inside has a nostalgic feel of a local cafe/diner vibe or maybe a bistro. Next time, I'm getting that barbacoa. I dropped in for coffee with a friend - we were not disappointed. We both grabbed coffee and something to eat. Even though the gentleman at the counter told me he was the only one in the kitchen, the food was speedy and the salsa was great for my breakfast tacos. He was sure there was going to be an unsatisfactory wait. I had a horchata latte and I wish I had ordered more - it was delicious! I would like to see them rely less on disposable options, the baskets are lined with paper and foil, the cups are single-use plastic, and we were staying for a while. The bug zapper, while a San Antonio reality, is a little off-putting. However, not a mosquito in sight. The service was friendly and helpful, but be prepared for the staff to have a sense of humor. My husband has been here a few times already for lunch but this was my first trip in. We both had the signature Mexican mocha. It is very rich and very good. My husband opted for two brisket tacos and two bean and cheese tacos. They looked good but I didn't take pictures of those. The bean and cheese had the cheese completely melted in which looked more appetizing than other bean and cheese tacos I've come across. The brisket was at least five thin slices along with avocado for an extra dollar. I opted for the chicken salad sandwich. It was a very hefty portion and had I known it would be as thick as it was I would have ordered a half a sandwich and a cup of soup. All in all, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the only caveat I can think of is it I wish this place was open on weekends. Love this place. I walked in and it's like a little oasis. Escape from the chaos of the outer world. A calm and bluesy feel. Such a unique spot. This place is a nice find! Very rustic interior with a nice selection of food/drinks. It's pretty spacious inside with a lot of seating so that people can sit spaced out. Service for the drinks went pretty fast, but our to-go order for food took about 10mins. We ordered the Westside special which is a grilled cheese sandwich with barbacoa and tomato on the side. It was nice and melty. Soup was a small serving on the side, but it was satisfying. Tacos came with a bit of salsa on the side and we added avocados to our order. It's 50cents for half an avocado on the side. We almost freaked out that the tacos were tiny but realized it was the avocado wrapped. The tacos had a nice amount of meat, but it wasn't too flavorful. Definitely needed the salsa and avocado too add to it. The drinks we ordered were the mocha latte and the horchata latte (both iced). They were good and not very sweet. I wouldn't say there was a noticeable horchata flavor in mine, but it was still tasty coffee. Overall, I enjoy the place's ambiance and would potentially take someone here for a nice brunch. This is my new favorite place to study. The coffee was full of flavor, and it was not noisy at all! I loved that they were playing jazz as background music - definitely easier to focus when music doesn't have vocals. The girls were very attentive and friendly, and Gilbert was great to talk to. I came here yesterday with a friend and we had a good time. Inside is kinda of crowded, even if there weren't a lot of people there, so we decided to eat outside. I ordered the caramel macchiato and it was good but it wasn't great. I felt as though it was too sweet and the syrup wasn't mixed at all. I would order coffee from here again, but like only if I had to. Now, the chicken salad sandwich was DELICIOUS. When we got there, there was only one left. We thought, let's just share it just in case we don't like it anyway.... I WISH THEY HAD 2 MORE!! It was honestly so delicious. Beautiful texture, beautiful flavor, and perfect size. I'll admit it's been some time since I've been here but my latest experience wasn't the greatest. I was next in line to order and as I approached the cashier told me "oh I'm supposed to be clocking out now" and proceeded to get the only other person working there to help me. It took longer for her to do that than to just take my order. The food was good but the order was wrong even after I asked and made sure to confirm they gave me what I ordered. Especially when you add some salsa to the sandwich. I have had their horchata latte hot and cold. I prefer it cold because it has more flavor. This quirky cafe serves up a variety of drinks and breakfast/brunch/lunch food options. I say quirky due to the interior decor which included a barber's chair (or dental... not sure), wood signs with homey sayings, local art, and TV's playing evangelical shows. Additionally, the women's bathroom has a door that you can lock, but there are two toilets in the private room with a curtain to draw in between... so that was interesting. The parking is limited up front (especially if people aren't cognizant of their spacing), but you can park along the side of the road that it's on (Roanoke St). There is plenty of seating inside and outside under a covered patio. The service was great all starting with the extremely helpful and fun guy at the register. He had some words of wisdom to pass along at 1000 AM on a Sunday. My husband and I were attracted to this place due to the pictures online of their Westside combo - barbacoa grilled cheese with tomato soup. We absolutely had to order it (husband added avocado) along with a couple of bean and cheese tacos (we came in around brunch and I love me some bean and cheese tacos) and an iced horchata latte and a iced cafe latte. Overall, the food and drinks were good, but not too crazy. Barrio Barista is a place we'd come back to, but not an "O-M-G brb" every weekend kind of place for us. Went there for the first time I love the service and ordered cold beverage, great ambiance I loved the inside decorations and it was so comfy I just feel kinda awkward when the owner tried to be funny with the cashier it's kinda unprofessional but I guess is how it works over there who I am to judge? lol anyways I was there to enjoy a nice coffee and I did I love it they also serve food I saw they had sandwiches they looked good so next time I'm gonna order some, they close at 1 pm and I arrived at wound 12:20 so I didn't had much time to stay around but next time definitely will be there with more time read more
