So beautiful and great to hike and be in nature. Where the gps took me there was only about 9 parking spots that by 9am are all taken up. Map kind of confused us but we were able to somewhat figure it out. Great views and so many options of trails lol

This is the BEST park / hike in the valley!! We are constantly going back to Fryman Canyon!! Here are the highlights: my most favorite thing other than the experience itself is the easy peasy parking. Never have I had to wait more than 5 minutes for a parking spot. The parking lot is so organized & people are coming and going gradually. So for parking alone, it's a great park!! Next, I am always complimenting how Fryman Canyon is challenging but approachable! The hike itself takes around an hour & it has a good mix of uphill, non incline & rocky terrain that is fine to walk with regular sneakers. We see all different types of people (all different ages) on the hike all the time. The views at Fryman Canyon are beautiful! They're a good mix of nature and city. The sunset is always enchanting. We have seen pocket gophers here which are adorable! Fryman is a fabulous hike if you're looking for some approachable, uplifting exercise!!

Still my favorite hike in the valley! It has been a while since I visited here, and all of the work they have done to the trail is simply amazing. I love the picnic area by tree people and all of the newly planted trees and flowers. It's truly an oasis tucked away in the mountains. It's so peaceful. They still have the doggy water fountain, which always came in handy when I brought my dog. If you start from the parking lot, the first half of the trail is pretty steep, but a great workout. Overall I would say it's a moderate trail. Love the views of the valley throughout the hike. Trail is unpaved and has minimal shade. Dogs on leash only. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare, depending on when you go, so just be patient when you arrive. If you don't mind waiting a little bit, you can find a spot in the lot!

5/5 This hike is one of my favorites. I've done it many times solo and just enjoyed nature all while getting a great workout in. I like to go the direction that starts out going up an incline and ends by you walking through a neighborhood. The views are so amazing hiking all the way up. There are a couple of different places to stop on the trail where the awesome Tree People have put benches made out of trees that have fallen. At the halfway point there's a bench that overlooks a drop and you can see the valley in all its glory. It's so peaceful there. I've sat there many times praying, meditating, tired and not having to think, or just taking in nature in so many different forms in that space. I encourage anyone who wants to satiate their need for nature to go here and do this hike. People like to run it or walk it. There are lots of cute dogs, couples, friends catching up, and even sometimes whole families hiking together. The trail is clean, obvious, and if you need to turn back halfway there's a route that loops you right back to the parking lot. Go to this place and get some nature in

Absolutely beautiful and wonderfully unassuming. I went in expecting a small neighborhood park and ended up pleasantly surprised. Each turn along the trail revealed a new landscape.. lush greenery, peaceful paths, and vibrant flowers that made the hike feel like a hidden escape. Parking is available but can be limited during peak hours and weekends, so plan accordingly. Overall, it was a calming and scenic hike. I'll definitely be coming back.

Nice little loop trail. I've done this only once before & this time enjoyed a solo stroll with my bestie. For dog owners, beware of all the foxtails and check your pups up & down to make sure they don't embed into your dog's body. Parking is relatively small, and today I randomly woke up and decided to stop by to do the trail, and was surprised to see it completely packed with a long line of cars waiting for spots. I realized it's likely because it's Memorial Day & many people may be off from work. Lots of space, benches for stops along the way, some manageable incline, little shade.

This hike is great, be prepared for long wait time for parking spots. My tip is- take a Uber from and to and park down the street to save your time. It's was kind of short hike but you can see a nice view.

Total hike is about 3 miles and takes about an hour and 20 minutes. I find it very similar to Runyan in length, strenuousness and how busy it gets. I still prefer Runyan but this can mix it up and it is better if you live in the Valley. Parking is really hard though, there is one small lot and street parking is prohibited. I'd recommend avoiding the weekend or ubering in, it's that bad. The first part is paved more of a steep uphill. It then changes to dirt and can get very dry and dusty in the summer months. At the top is Coldwater Canyon Park with the Tree People. There is a bathroom there which is a huge plus. I like all the views when going through Fryman. You are constantly looking at the Valley and I'm always in awe of how vast it is and how far you can see. The mountains are in view I'm not sure the name of the range but the ones that separate LA from Santa Clarita as well as the Verdugo Mountains. It's close to the Burbank airport so there are always planes coming in and out. On the way back down the trail goes through city streets or you can just go back the way you came. Iredell Street has the beginning of the Rainforest Trail goes up to a lookout on Mulholland. This is nice to make it a much longer hike but I think most people stick to the loop.

Decided to do a hike with different views and less busy. Easy parking with chargers for EV. There are restrooms at the parking lot and also towards the top of the hike. There's also water for your furbabies at the top. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the views. The hike is about halfway paved and halfway dirt pathway. Would recommend!

This is one of the most popular hiking trails in Los Angeles. I have been living here for years and finally made my way over on a beautiful Sunday afternoon with my daughter. We got there around 3:00pm and the parking lot was packed. That didn't discourage us since we managed to find parking on the street. I wasn't exactly sure where the entrance to the trail was so we followed some other hikers and headed up a steep hill through a residential area that was nice to pass through. Everyone was very friendly and confirmed that the trail was in fact at the top of the hill. We actually entered the trail at the opposite end but it's a big loop that took us back to our car without an issue. The views were spectacular and it was an excellent cardio workout. The trail was not too difficult and if you are a beginner hiker this should be easy. Just take your time and stop to catch your breath and enjoy the view! Definitely a great family outing any day of the week. Some others mentioned street parking and tickets. Make sure you read the signs. There is a parking lot but it fills up quickly. If you park on Laurel Canyon before you reach Fryman Canyon you should be okay. I plan on going here often. It's a really good workout.

Ask the Community - Fryman Canyon Park

Is there a Lost & Found, or who can be contacted re misplaced items on the trail?

    no lost and found

Is it closed right now during the coronavirus?

Yes, it's currently closed until further notice.

Is this a very steep hike? I am terribly afraid of heights but really want to take long nature walks/ very very low incline hikes. Any recs would be VERY appreciated:)

There are various trails on this specific hike, and yes segments of it are steep and up a mountain-side. Griffith Park has portions of the hike which are just ground level and long-winded.

    Is it crowded on Sundays?

Just like other LA hiking trails this one gets busy and has limited parking. I'd go at sunrise if you can.

Is it crowded in the morning during the week?

It's ideal to go during work week.

Is this good for strollers? Thanks in advance :)

No, some parts are steep and the ground is uneven in some areas. I did do this hike with an ergobaby which was manageable when my son was 25 lbs

Could people hike here at night?

    Not the best idea

    Is there a restroom?

There's a restroom in the parking lot

That said, my experience was mixed. The trail is very natural and rugged, way less groomed park and way more nature path through the hills. It's narrow, often overgrown, and there aren't any clear signs, so you're basically figuring it out as you go. Parts of the dirt path get muddy or sandy, and at times it felt like I was pushing through bushes more than hiking a trail. If you're coming expecting a smooth, family-friendly stroll with benches and clear loops, this isn't that kind of place. There's also no restrooms or marked facilities but more of just a small dirt parking area (street parking) and the trail entrance. I did appreciate the quiet, green canopy and the feeling of actually being in nature. It's one of those spots where you have to adjust expectations: come here for a low-key, adventurous walk under trees and through brush, not for a manicured weekend park outing. If you love exploring rugged little local trails and don't mind getting a bit dirty, you'll appreciate it more than someone looking for a casual park vibe.
