I have been coming to this eclectic spot in Charleston for about 14 years. I first came because of a Guy Fieri Diners Drive-in & Dives episode and is a must stop when I visit Charleston. The business is in an old service station with the motif that follows with old gas station signage, oil cans etc.. very cool especially if you were a kid of the 60's or 70's. Also, there is inside seating as well as outdoor seating (courtyard with tropical plants and fans). Had the tacos, red salsa & guac! Awesome!! From a beverage selection, I had the spicy margarita and my wife had a vodka mule. Both tasty & refreshing! It a must do if you come to Charleston! As an FYI, parking is a bit limited. Enjoy!

The atmosphere was fun, but the food was barely edible. I ordered the avocado salad. There were hacked up pale chunks of avocado. The avocado could not be sliced or cut because it was so unripe. Definitely not edible. Tried my best to salvage the lettuce. & I selected to add jerk chicken, which was edible - but tasted like it had been sitting around for a week. The waitress stayed away after delivering my plate... She saw the state of the avocado. *My margarita was A+.

They had the best large table for our Bachelorette party. The service was a tad slow but that could be a number of factors like our size, Friday afternoon etc... The food was very good, and the drinks were not stingy and after 1 or 2 you either need a nap or to keep going. The outside patio is amazing so if you are in the area be sure to stop by and just grab a drink outside, it was lovely despite the heat and humidity. If it was that lovely on that kind of afternoon, it must be priceless on a cooler day.

Excellent service! As you walk in, you're greeted with a smile. The decor bring a classic gas station into the present. It brings you surf culture. It's a classy fell with Endless Summer vibe! The food is amazing! The nachos and street corn are gluten free. There are a variety of mixed drinks. The price is right!

Decent food. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Fun atmosphere. Empty tables just waiting for patrons. They need to hire a busboy, dirty table next to us the whole time we were here and a line out the door. They have no systems in place. Kind of ashamed considering the place is cool. #LOSINGMONEY.

Great atmosphere with a fun outdoor space. They even had Happy Dads which are my favorite drink!! I will definitely be back.

Bartender and bar manager were so friendly! Great happy hour and they have my favorite Happy Dads!

Great service and a fun time drinking happy dads! Great atmosphere for drinking with your friends.

Great place for a patio meal, margaritas, and outdoor games. Kid and dog friendly! My son loves the kids burger and fries. The guacamole and chicken nachos are my favorite menu items. The margarita on tap is delicious. Sometimes they host events like DJ night and drag bingo - always fun! Also a plus that it has its own parking lot, as most downtown places don't. Highly recommend!

Good service, good food and cute place. My favorite thing here is the Chocolate chip Coconut ice cream!

Both made our day! I will say: Duncan makes the best Berry Coladas!! That drink is SO GOOD! it tastes like a coconut berry smoothie (we got the alcoholic version with rum, but there's a nonalcoholic version as well). Once our table was ready, we were moved to a booth. The overall decor is coastal and cute, with basket-lighting, wooden booths, and multiple ways to order! You can order via your server, QR code, or a paper ballot. We started off with the large sized chips & guac. I was skeptical at first because the guacamole doesn't have tomato, but it was VERY good! We devoured it! For tacos: we got: The baja fish taco: one of my favorites--the fish is perfectly crispy The crispy duck taco: good! Not super crispy, but definitely tasty The cauliflower taco: a surprise hit! I found the flavors very refreshing and well seasoned! The tuna taco on a bed of lettuce: this one can get messy. I ordered with my stomach instead of reading the fine print that it doesn't come in a traditional taco tortilla. The overall taco is good and the tuna has excellent flavor. The taco does come loaded with a sauce that tends to spill--so eat over the tray! My sister got the carne asada taco, and she felt that it could have been better. She felt the carne asada itself was bland and relied on the sauce for flavor. I'm usually skeptical of chain restaurants like Bartaco, but I've been pleasantly surprised: their food is reliably good! (Of note, the Bartaco in Hyde Park Village in Tampa DOES take reservations, unlike this one). I wish this Bartaco also took reservations. On busy days, you can easily expect a 30-45 minute+ wait to be seated here. That being said, the guacamole, the drinks, and the tacos are overall very good! I found that ordering 5 tacos was more than enough to fill me. My sister and I split our bill of berry coladas, large chips & guac, and tacos (5 per person) and it came out to $33.53 per person (with tax and tip).

We ended up ordering food as pickup instead, and we got our meal within 20 minutes, so I would suggest ordering for pickup over dining in. The tacos were all fairly priced, and we were all quite happy with what we ordered. I will say they missed a taco on our order and did not quite follow the modifications we made to some of the tacos. We went back for our missing tacos, and they gave us an extra along with some chips for free. Overall, the food 10/10, but unfortunately the service could not live up to the same standard.

Last night I placed a large order: burrito de birria, two tamales, pozole, large bag of chips , guacamole, drinks . After driving 30 minutes back to my hotel, I opened the bag to find the tamales were completely missing. Then I tried the pozole, and it was so salty it was absolutely inedible. On top of that, they didn't include a single condiment--just a bland, overly salty soup. I tried calling for 30 minutes straight--no answer. Left a voicemail--no call back. Not that night, not the next morning. Completely ignored. The next day, I went in person to give them a chance to make it right. I had my order number and explained everything clearly. Instead of even attempting to help, they refused to do anything without a physical receipt. No effort to look up the order, no accountability, no customer care. Just excuses. Expecting someone to drive 30 minutes back with uneaten food just to prove a mistake is ridiculous. I ended up having to go to Wendy's just to eat dinner after spending money here--that alone says everything. Mistakes happen, but the way a business handles them is what matters. This place clearly doesn't care once they have your money. This wasn't my first issue here, but it will definitely be my last.

It's not my favorite type of Mexican restaurant, as it's a little more upscale than I *personally* prefer, but if upscale Mexican is your vibe, then this'll be the perfect restaurant for you! They had an alright selection of beers, to include a couple of IPAs, but my friends and I didn't really enjoy their cocktails. They were expensive, but lacking in much flavor or zest. Besides looking cool, the taste didn't really match the aesthetic. Furthermore, the food was solid, but not that much better than your basic Mexican restaurant. As for the service, our waiter was nice enough, but he always seemed to be in a hurry, and was walking away while we were still trying to give our order. All-in-all, I'm probably making Matador sound worse than it was, but it was merely a slightly above-average Mexican experience, not a transcendental dining experience that I'll never forget. I'll give it 3/5 stars, and would recommend it based on your personal preference.
