I used to make it a point to stop here every time I'm in town for work--but after this experience, I won't be coming back. Last night I placed a large order: burrito de birria, two tamales, pozole, large bag of chips , guacamole, drinks . After driving 30 minutes back to my hotel, I opened the bag to find the tamales were completely missing. Then I tried the pozole, and it was so salty it was absolutely inedible. On top of that, they didn't include a single condiment--just a bland, overly salty soup. I tried calling for 30 minutes straight--no answer. Left a voicemail--no call back. Not that night, not the next morning. Completely ignored. The next day, I went in person to give them a chance to make it right. I had my order number and explained everything clearly. Instead of even attempting to help, they refused to do anything without a physical receipt. No effort to look up the order, no accountability, no customer care. Just excuses. Expecting someone to drive 30 minutes back with uneaten food just to prove a mistake is ridiculous. I ended up having to go to Wendy's just to eat dinner after spending money here--that alone says everything. Mistakes happen, but the way a business handles them is what matters. This place clearly doesn't care once they have your money. This wasn't my first issue here, but it will definitely be my last. Should have been amazing based on reviews. I'm trusting ratings less and less. If you like gummy cold yellow corn tortillas and old meat that's been sitting in a metal tin for hours, maybe? The only thing going for this place is it has some vibe, and their sauces are a standout. I'd give the sauces a 7/8 but tacos... 2/3. Plus they're $4 a taco which is on the higher side. These are among my favorite tacos in Charleston and certainly my favorite in West Ashley. The service is quick (it's in the middle of the market) but it's fresh and it's so flavorful. They cook up the same meats they sell so it's almost like try before you buy. This review is for the supermarket, not the restaurant inside. The supermarket is awesome. You can find everything you South American appetite desires. There's lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, a refrigerated section with fresh guacamole, queso, different types of salsa and so much more. As soon as you enter, there is a self-service bakery section with the most delicious empanadas and freshly baked Mexican muffins. Beyond this is a fresh desert and ice cream area. The most delicious Fresca crema is served here, along with a variety of other Jell-O based flan based desserts. We went for a quick dinner before our movie night at Citadel mall and El Molino seemed like a good spot. This place is a mexican supermarket with fresh homemade corn tortillas that made daily at the house. They sells marinated meat with mexican spices, home made chips, mexican sodas, spices and seasoning. They also sells mexican sweets and pastry. I heard praises on their Biria Tacos but my favorite is the chorizo tacos and the red vampire juice. We had better biria at the taco food truck in North Charleston. Just realize this isn't a restaurant and the seating area is next to the butcher/meat section. At least you know the food is fresh! I was very impressed with El Molino. They have fresh tacos in the store. They are excellent. I had the Birria taco and two others and they were very good. The service was fast. I had a new cashier that day and she messed up but they realized it at the same time that I did and they fixed my order. There was a small confusion and I almost ended up with more food than I ordered. The ambiance, well it's a grocery store with tables set up in the middle so it's not fancy but it's very good food. I loved the customer service, loved the loud salsa music playing , love the fact they have a panaderia and a taqueria inside the grocery store and lots of Hispanic owned products available for sale . However , I came for the birria tacos and they just were not that good . From all the Yelp reviews I was ready for my life to be changed , my palate to be elevated , all the good things ! Unfortunately, there were no fireworks in my mouth , just disappointment for wasting the calories and carbs . The tacos lacked flavor . That's the bottom line . I tried adding the lime , tried dipping it in the accompanying consommé broth-- nada . Nothing helped . It was just no bueno . Also, the al pastor taco I got was a joke . No pineapple and just marinated in a sauce that left it dripping in sauce that wasn't working for it . I'm so sad about it but I also want to point out if you've never eaten tacos in Mexico you may find you like these tacos . I literally compare all these Americanized tacos to my culinary experiences in Mexico and yes I usually end up disappointed. Came to Molino for the Taco Tuesday pizza box that saw on Instagram. Thoroughly enjoyed it so still going back! The taco box is a must especially for an evening with a few friends and great presentation on their part to intrigue more potential customers! Their taqueria is the hidden gem of some great inexpensive authentic tacos. Their meals come with radish, cucumbers, a red sauce and a green sauce. The green sauce is my favorite and very spicy. The red sauce has an interesting sweetness to it for me. Went back last weekend for lunch to try the Birria tacos and again was not disappointed! They have 5 or so tables outside on the strip to eat. Along with the grocery and taqueria, is a dessert stand. I am a big fan of churros so had to get one. They weren't the hottest when received but still tasty cinnamon sugar dough.
