I LOVE THIS SALON! I came to Chicago to visit my daughter and ended up extending my stay. I needed a root touch up. I hoped I would be able to get in right away and I was able to do just that! Right away, the vibe was wonderful. It was rainy and Michael took my jacket, and offered me refreshments. Dani did my hair and it came out perfectly done! She gave a divine head massage and took great care with not staining my scalp and forehead with dye. She showed a lot of TLC with my blowout, especially since I have long hair! I was treated like I had been going there for years... like a part of the family! As a matter of fact, I loved experience so much, I bought a gift certificate for my daughter to use. I loved my first time at Fuga! I had a gift certificate and was in desperate need of a haircut, so Fuga it was. I immediately loved the atmosphere from when I came in. All of the employees were friendly and welcoming, especially the man at the front desk (so mad I missed getting his name!). Dani was amazing with my hair--I asked for her input on how to color it, and she gave great advice. It was a luxuriating and relaxing couple of hours there. Anna is an EXTRAORDINARY hair stylist. I cannot stress how thorough and considerate she was throughout the whole process and she was consistently checking in with me to make sure she was doing what I wanted. She, as always, went the extra step to make sure I understood how to take care of my hair and she made sure to give me a cut and style I can actually take care of. More than that, she was so fun and easy to talk to and it felt more like I was spending time with a close friend than just getting my hair cut. I recommend Anna 10/10 times. Fuga is also a gorgeous and super friendly space. It is evident that the stylists all get along and enjoy one another's company and they seem happy to be there. I have to say that I absolutely love this salon and the wonderful staff that works there. I was referred to this salon by a co-worker and have now referred a few people myself. Lisa does an amazing job with my hair and I can be quite particular regarding my haircuts. I always get rave reviews from friends after a haircut or color and I can say that I truly trust her with my ridiculously thick hair. She has this way of listening to me babble about a few things I want to do with my hair and giving me a cut that turns out exactly the way I pictured it...even if I couldn't describe it. I have been with her through highlights and all over color and most recently trendy new bangs and I definitely recommend her to my fellow Chicagoans. Also, a few notes about the great staff. The head massages they give while shampooing my hair are insanely luxurious. I think a haircut there is worth it just for the amazing head massages. The reception staff is also great. They are super friendly and helpful and I have never had a problem getting an appointment. I have been looking for a new hairstylist since I moved to Chicago (for almost 2 years now). A friend went here for a massage (which she loved) and so I figured: it's down the street from my place, seemed reasonably priced, so I'll give it a try. Well... I found my new girl! Her name is Rachel and she's great. Gave me an adorable cut - just what i wanted - I went from very long to a bob. I've been back twice now. She spends a lot of time really talking to you about what you want in a haircut, and then spends a lot of time making sure you walk out the door with a style you love. Not to mention a scalp massage, AND getting my hair cut while sipping a cappucino or glass of wine (complimentary of course)? Fabulous! And at $55 for a cut, which seems pretty standard anywhere you go in Chicago, it's worth every dime. Feels like a mini vacation ("Italian Escape!"). All of the stylists here are trained on the same techniques. And also by an Italian woman who comes to the states (must be a friend of the owner? Rachel says she is a bigwig in Italy for hair.) and teaches them new styles a few times a year. I think that whoever you wind up with as your stylist here will do a good job. read more

I came here for a chocolate mani/pedi, it was part of a month long beauty promotion all over the city. I figured, since I don't really eat chocolate there has to be some way for me to benefit from it. I'm eternally grateful to Fuga, because I was a day early. I honestly don't know how that happened, I'd like to explain the drugs I was given post-appendectomy that messed up my brain's calendar. But regardless, the spa fit me into their schedule, so I was very pleased. Now, something I wasn't so pleased about was the two little children that were running around salon. A client had brought her two young sons, they both had to be younger than 5, and well she was lead to believe that Fuga had transformed into her own personal daycare. I basically ended up having a conversation with the youngest one and also felt like I somehow became his babysitter. I definitely could've done without that, esp when I was trying to relax. Now back to the chocolate mani/pedi, it was indeed very nice. While I don't like the taste of chocolate, I definitely love the smell. I was able to smell chocolate for over an hour and not once did I get sick of it. If there is another promotion, and Fuga is on the list, I would definitely return.... read more

"I like to go in deep and not talk a lot." After the introductions, that was Stephanie (my masseuse for the hour) told me. Thank goodness, because the last thing I need during a relaxation session is chatting. Let's skip that awkwardness. But massages are inherently awkward because they're kind of a sensual thing, right? Especially because this was my first professional massage, all others have been given by boyfriends and had very different endings. Even still, there is this person very close to you, touching your naked body and that's weird. But Stephanie was completely professional, and as she said, she just went at it and cut the chitter-chatter. She asked if I had any problem areas (my back) and then spent most of the time rubbing out all of my knots and kinks. She even did fire cupping! Which is crazy because, hello, there is fire involved near your skin, but also awesome because apparently it brings out all of the toxins and deep stress in your muscles. After a very relaxing, quite hour Stephanie met me with post-message water and gave me some tips on my bad back. All awkwardness aside, I highly recommend Fuga for their services. I went here this Sunday for the Pretty in Pink $31 Express Facial. It was really express. No extractions. I forgot her name, but the girl who did my facial didn't really tell me what she was doing. The only thing she talked about was how her allergies were getting worse. Add to that her sneezing and coughing throughout the facial, it really wasn't a pleasant experience. Plus my face looked the same. The spa _looks_ cute enough, but I feel like they haven't really maintained it well. I wasn't offered to change in the locker room (I didn't see it, but I think I read they have one) and the big bathroom I used had no toilet paper (certainly nothing like the swanky, well-equipped changing area at Spacio). I don't know if they just treat you worse if you're using the Pretty in Pink discount, but I wouldn't go here again. read more

I really want to like this place as it is very close to my house. I just had my 4th haircut there. I told Lisa I was trying to grow out some shorter layers as they were a pain to blowdry. She cut them really short again, like chin length. We discussed cutting two inches off my hair. She cut four off one side and three and a half off the other side. So now I have a too short, uneven cut with layers I didn't want. I will not be returning. read more

I walked into Fuga a desperate woman--with orange-ish hair. But Jaime made it all better! An inexperienced stylist at another salon had given me a "base bump" after applying my normal highlights and the result was an other-wordly, orange-ish glow, which looked particularly awful with my skintone. I went to Fuga to ask them whether it could be fixed, and Jaime was willing to help. He told me that the stylists at Fuga typically consult with each other on the best approach in complex cases--and the results speak for themselves. After a few short hours--and a very reasonable price--the glow was gone, and I had lovely brown lowlights with light blond highlights. I almost cried with gratitude. I was in love with my hairdresser, and I did not want to find anybody else. Unfortunately, he went AWOL and no one knew where to find him or when he would return. Since my hair continued to grow anyway, I booked this place because they were open on Mondays and could fit me in with only a few days notice. I was very nervous about coming here, even more so because I was told Alex would be cutting my hair, and she didn't have any reviews on Yelp. Luckily, she was fantastic. When I was waiting I was offered a variety of beverages and sweets. The interior was nice, but I do think it has a very "just-moved-in" feel about it. When I asked though, I was told they had been there for 4 years. Oops. Alex was very nice and very helpful. We discussed my hair for several minutes. After listening to what I thought and how much time and effort I spent on my hair, she offered a couple different haircuts. I picked one out and she went to work. Unfortunately I hated it; I felt bad because this was the haircut we discussed and I agreed to, but she was completely cool with it. She was very open to feedback and after we discussed the cut she took extra time to fix it. Fortunately, half an hour or so later, I had a completely awesome haircut that I still adore. The best part was that I got compliments on it for the next week, even when I didn't style my hair. After a few days, I got a thank you card with a coupon for my next visit. What a great escape! I had an amazing facial with Pamela. It started off with a relaxing time in the steam shower (request this! it's the best way to set the mood!) Pamela's touch was just right! You can tell she is very passionate about what she does. Afterwards she made me feel like I was at home and I could stay there "totally blissed out" as long as I wanted. I went to Fuga last week during their Pretty City promotion for a 30 minute massage. The salon's interior is really warm & inviting and the receptionist offered me a beverage as soon as I sat down to wait. They definitely get 4 stars for initial customer service. The only reason Fuga does not get 5 stars is because the massage really did not relax me. The temperature was inconsistent and the masseuse had to keep stopping and regulate the thermostat. The time spent regulating the temperature cut into my short 30 minute massage and I was disappointed. I might consider going back to try one of their other services, but I don't think I will return for a massage. read more

I've been to see Rachel twice and she's wonderful. The first time was to have my hairstyled before a formal event. She took her time and gave me a great look. The second time was for a haircut based on several mentions of her on yelp. Rachel gave me a fabulous bob (but not yo ordinary bob) and the most heavenly scalp massage. She's very fun and easy to talk to as well!!! Prices are very reasonable. The salon is nice - plus they serve cappucino, etc. if you're into that sort of thing. I was referred to this salon and have truly enjoyed it ever since trying it for the first time. I would mention my stylists name but she is nearly impossible to get into now so offering her up to everyone else would make it that much worse for me :) (sorry) I've been receiving a hair cut and highlights now for months and always enjoy my visit. One visit my appointment was misbooked and they offered a facial as a gesture to correct the error while they rebooked me, that is what a good business is about! I appreciated it and won't forget the kindness nor the fact that their employees are empowered to make these decisions. My only slight negative is the person who answers the phone, never is really too concerned or offers alternatives for trying to book an appointment, it's like if you don't ask for it then oh well it's not available. Never really seems to have a voice of concern or desire to be helpful. I enjoy this salon and my stylist greatly! read more

I have been going to the stylist Kenny for years and when he began working at Fuga I followed. This is a wonderful salon with excellent service. Kenny has years of experience and he does awesome cuts, color, and blowouts! I will now be a regular at Fuga and I would highly recommend Kenny! Skip the trial and error cuts and go to someone who knows what he's doing! Fuga's other services are exceptional as well. Kenny has moved on but it is still a nice salon AND they make coffee drinks for you! Parking isn't bad (I'm sure it's awful if there is a CUBS games so avoid going when there are games. It was $120 for some highlights and a cut which is pretty average in Chicago. read more

I live right down the street from Fuga, so I decided to check it out a couple of months ago. I called last minute and they took me immediately. The first time I went Wintre cut my hair. She was great and did exactly what I wanted. I called yesterday to try and get an appointment for a cut with Wintre, but was informed she only works Saturdays and Sundays. They set me up with Eliora, instead. She did an AMAZING job. She did what I asked, only better (yes, I realize that sounds crazy). I like having short bangs, but have trouble explaining to stylists exactly what I want- she gave me short, choppy bangs like I asked, but they turned out better than I could have expected. Not only is the service great at Fuga, the ambiance is very nice as well. The receptionists are always friendly and attentive. The prices are great, too, and they have deals on weekdays for various services. I will definitely continue to go to Fuga in the future! read more

I moved into the area in 2005 from the suburbs and was looking for a new salon/spa. I decided to try Fuga because it was within walking distance and had good reviews. This was when their haircuts were still $55. During that first visit I had a haircut by Rachel and LOVED it and HER! She was down-to-earth, a great listener, and gave me the haircuts and color I wanted every time. I even referred her to two of my girlfriends and she became not only my regular stylist but theirs as well. Then Rachel got married and moved out of state. We were crushed. I got one more haircut at Fuga, I forget by whom, but she did the job well. However Fuga's haircuts are up to $65 (same length of hair from when I went to Rachel) - the stylist wasn't a senior stylist either so I was put back by the price hike. After 4.5 years with Rachel at Fuga I'm still shopping around the area for a regular salon. If I have a major cut I'd probably go ahead and go to Fuga. The staff is really nice and they offer water or capuccino. Maria is a great waxer too, she makes getting a bikini wax painless, fast and worth the price. The funky Italian rap songs are pretty funny too. read more

I live in the suburbs and happily make the drive to Fuga every 6-8 weeks for highlights and a haircut. Antonio is fantastic and I get so many compliments on my color. If he's ever too busy, I go see Lisa who is just as fabulous. The facial I got was amazing. I left feeling my skin was cleaner! The girl who did my facial was amazing. Super friendly but let me have my quiet time also. The music, the aromas and the whole experience was intoxicating. The hand/foot massage were amazing. The room was warm and relaxing, the bed comfortable and cozy....could have easily drifted off into a nap! I had a light peel and some cleaning done but my skin wasn't red for long and the morning after was even better. NEVER GO TO LISA. I was referred to her for extensions and it was the worst mistake of my life. She examined my hair during the consult and said that I would be a great candidate and then we scheduled my appointment. The day of the appointment went well. She was on time, nice, and the extemsions looked great. Almost immediately the pieces started to fall out. I don't mean a few pieces I mean a ton. About 10 pieces in the first week. When I called Fuga to see if it was normal, they assured me it was okay. I then spoke to friends with extensions that go to Cheryl on Oak street and they said it was completely abnormal. Pieces kept falling out and I kept calling trying to get some sort of guidance. Lisa NEVER responded. The salon manager was great but Lisa didn't ever get back to me. To shut me up, they sent the pieces in to be examined and of course Great Length said it had nothing to do with the hair. At this point it had to be the way they were put in, The salon tried 15 different ways and times to convince me I had done something that would cause 40 of the pieces to fall out in a month. Finally after much complaining they reimbursed me the $ for the process not the hair. Normally this would be fine but extensions are over $1000. The kicker was they refused to give me the return in cash. I had to get it in store credit. So I had to on my own find people to buy gift certificates from me and then had to go there again myself so that the money wouldn't be wasted. I was livid. Lisa was so terrible, her customer service was traggic (probably the worst I've ever seen!), and then they wouldn't even reimburse me. I had to go back in there and use the rest of the credit. What a nightmare. I wouldn't let anyone I know go to Lisa. Her skills and ability to deal with customers leave much to be desired. read more
