I sometimes cringe writing about a true gem because I'm afraid it will be that much harder to get an appointment...but I just learned that Thomas Wiley is a new massage therapist at Fuga! I'm so excited because this is so much closer to my work so I can grab a massage on my way out of the city since we now live in the suburbs. I've easily been to 20 different massage therapists in my lifetime and Thomas is by far the best. He is worth every penny and he will truly get to know your body and your needs (in a non-creepy way). I'm also excited to try this place for a haircut before or after my visit with Thomas! Could not be more excited. I hope the other services here are just as good! read more

Brooke is great for waxing! I definitely recommend, but I've tried calling this location on several occasions in the last couple weeks and every single time I get the voicemail. And yes, I am calling during business hours. I leave a message and NEVER get a response back. I'm moving on. It sucks because I really like Brooke, but I'm sick and tired of being ignored! I wanted something new from my boring shoulder length cut so I went and got a bob and bangs bargain haircut, and when i came home my sister said i look like beverly cleary's ramona. I knew it was a really bad cut when i went to work and no one commented on my very obvious haircut. So, about a week later I went to get it fixed at Fuga with Nadine (I think that was her name), i asked to keep the length but try to help it. she was able to stylize it to make it look like an adult more-sophisticated look and suddenly everyone at work was mentioning my haircut because they finally had something good to say about it. read more

Stumbled on this place while searching for a place to get a pedicure that doesn't use creepy spa chairs. Happy to say that Fuga has copper tubs (highly germ resistant), nice people and a peaceful environment. It's relatively close to my house so I think this will be my go to spot from now on. read more

As someone that is pretty neurotic about her hair, I was nervous as a first time customer. I was planning on getting about 5 or so inches of my hair cut off because I wanted a change. I called the salon before showing up and after reading some of the other great reviews here, and I asked some questions of the receptionist. First, let me say that I don't remember the person to whom I spoke on the phone, but she was wonderfully helpful and polite and informative. I ended up making an appointment with Nadine, and she was an absolute PERFECT fit for me. She gave me honest feedback when I showed her the picture that I wanted to emulate, and she explained exactly what she was doing in great detail while also made great general conversation. She also gave me one of the best shampoos and head massages EVER! I haven't left a salon that happy in many years, and I have already received quite a few compliments on my new haircut. I have been going to Fuga Spa monthly since September, and I have always left satisfied. As the reviews below will reiterate, the receptionists are really friendly & helpful. I tend to work & live a hectic schedule so I often call for appointments the day of or before, and they almost always fit me in at the perfect time. So, the reviews for the hair salon all seem wonderful, but I have always ventured to the upstairs of the salon where they do just the opposite of the downstairs, taking some hot wax & getting rid of your hair. Now, I would love to be a loyal customer to just one specialist, but my crazy schedule has permitted me appointments with 4 different specialists- Graciella, Maria, Jaunita, & Pamela, and let me tell you, each one of them does an excellent job. I have had crappy and painful Brazillians before, but never here at Fuga. If you're a brazillian or waxing addict at all, it can be kind of scary to go to someone new for the first time, but honestly, I am only writing this review so people looking for the right place can know you can't really go wrong here. *** 10/22/08 *** Just had to make a quick update about Maria. I was so impressed with her at my last appointment. I had not seen her since the winter, but she remembered everything about me, & noticed my hair had been cut short & colored. The other thing I really like about Maria is that she will sit there and take the time to get rid of any ingrowns you may have. I love getting my eyebrows done here. They always look amazing and hold the shape for several weeks. So why the three stars? Every time I go here, it seems that the price of an eyebrow wax goes up. On my most recent visit, I was charged $20 before tip. That's insane. I've had equally good waxes for $15. Not sure I'll be back - dropping almost $25 to get my brows did is just too rich for my blood. read more

Do you want the best blowout after you have had a baby and have 1,000 baby hairs that won't sit down!?! Go see Lisa at Fuga. I am struggling with outgrowth from a baby and usually end up looking like Sponge Bob Square Pants when i try to blow it dry - but Lisa (the magician!) knew exactly how to make me look like Jennifer Aniston (which shamelessly is STILL my goal). It is worth every penny and everything about the salon is so welcoming and fun - Becca at the front desk is amazing and always manages to get me in. I love this place. Luxurious, but not pretentious. All of the staff members have great style-- a very good indicator of how hip the place is! I've had great luck getting very on-trend haircuts and color there-- people always asking where I got my hair done. I was a client of Rachel's until she moved, now I go to Goldie, who is a rising STAR! OK...To say i was disappointed is putting it mildly! a friend and I have been dying to go to Fuga since they opened being right in the neighborhood. We finally SCHEDULED appointments a month in advance to have a birthday spa day. We were scheduled for facials and pedicures. Upon entering they informed us that they were having computer problems and didnt have us scheduled. They treated us as if we were walk in's, saying they COULD MAYBE get us in for nails but not facials! WHY WOULD WE STAY FOR PEDICURES FOR 45 $ WHEN WE COULD GO DOWN THE STREET FOR HALF THE PRICE. They didnt even offer an apology or compensation! NOT GOOD BUSINESS FOR THE PRICES THEY CHARGE!!!!!!!!!! NO DESIRE TO EVER RETURN! read more

I had a Brazilian wax here. When I went to pay and mentioned my Groupon, I was informed the Groupon was only valid with a certain Esthetician. This information, of course, was never mentioned to me prior but when I stated this I was told it was "in the fine print" on the Groupon. Wow. So not only am I out $65 for the Groupon which I will never use, I had to pay full price for the service in person. Putting sneaky info like that in your 'fine print' is bad business and a sure way to ensure your clients won't ever come back. read more

i had a facial from pam last week and it was amazing! her hands were like angels feet dancing on my skin. she was very knowledgeable and explained each step as the facial proceeded. my skin was "singing" when i left. it had been several years since i'd treated myself, but i will certainly go back to fuga for more skin care! i had a massage as well, but was so relaxed after the facial and the steam shower, that i hardly remember it! thankfully, i live close by so can go back soon! read more

I visited Fuga recently and was really impressed. I am a HUGE spa snob- I go all over town to try different services and I definitely think Fuga is a great place. The only reason I personally am not giving it 5 stars is because I'm not a fan of salon/spa combinations- it might not be a good reason for some, but this is my fair and honest review and Im not a fan of loud salon atmospheres when I'm spa-ing. BUT once Pamela whisked me upstairs for my services I felt much better! I had their signature facial, an eyebrow and bikini waxing. The eyebrow waxing and facial were great. During the facial she listened to my skin concerns and offered honest and real responses to my problems. I felt very comfortable with her knowledge and would highly recommend anyone who need to relax or step up their skincare routine go see her. I was NERVOUS about the bikini wax, but Pamela was very respectful of my irrational fear, telling me when to take deep breaths and working as fast as possible. Afterwards, I was very happy with the results and would recommend her to anyone! The only reason I don't regularly go to Fuga is because it's not closer to my house- if it was, I would make trips there regularly! read more

Love Fuga and Lisa! I have been getting my hair cut there for years and they do a fantastic job every time. I originally began going for Alex (A friend of a friend who was the first person ever to chop my hair short--and i loved it!). A few months ago, Alex moved--I was devastated!! I only trusted my perfect bob to her!! She recommended Lisa, and I have not been disappointed! Lisa is great at short-ish textured cuts and did a great job thinning out and styling my thick and sometimes unruly hair. She also gave me a gloss and did my hair for my wedding, which turned out perfect and held all night long. On top of having great stylists, the receptionists and managers are great as well. Plus, they make fantastic cappuccinos which they offer the minute you walk in the door. The atmosphere is relaxing and I always leave feeling beautiful! read more

I was actually given a gift card for this spa. I have never actully been to one before and didn't know what to expect. From the moment I scheduled my massage (the same day) everyone was very friendly. I showed up to the salon about 5 minutes early and was greeted by the front desk and asked if I would like anything to drink. I asked what they had, and was supised to hear it was more that just water. I said a coffee would be fine. The lady asked me if I would like decaf since I was about to have a relaxing massage. Made sense, right? I then said I would hold off till after the massage and just have a water for now. She brought me over the water and said the massuer was going to be down in a minute. A minute to me doesn't always mean a minute, but in this case it was about a minute. Again, since this was my first massage I didn't know what to do. The massuer asked me how I would be most comfortable and gave me advice on where to place my hands. The hour massage was great. It felf like I was there for two hours of relaxation. This is the only service I have had there, but everyone else appeared happy as well, so I would strongly recommend going there yourself or suprising someone with a gift certificate from there. It was $95 for an hour swedish massage and well worth it! read more

It has been a while since I went to Fuga for a Brazilian wax. I had followed my previous waxer and she sadly moved. So I opted to try Fuga again. Same great salon and thrilled they started carrying Yonka again! WOW! Emilia rocks it! She made a very awkward experience tolerable and was not only effective, but this was one of the easier and least painful Brazilian waxes I have ever had! I went for broke and also asked for a leg wax and an eyebrow wax. I mentioned to Emilia, I would probably be coming to Fuga more often since I developed a nickel allergy and can't do standard leg razors any more, lest my allergy develops into dermatitis on my legs and I have to endure weeks/months of topical Clindamycin. Here's where I found out Emilia was also honest. When I told her that, she replied, "I don't want to lose you as a client, but have you looked into the nickel free blades?" Wow! Super honest. I replied I had, but many had trace amounts of nickel. I had also looked into Surgicream, but I didn't like the time it took or the smell. When I shared that with Emilia, she responded, "Why put any more chemicals into your body than you have to? And, you know what? Waxing is exfoliating." Her eyebrow was was not only great, but she gave an amazing head rub afterwards. The only sucky thing is no tipping on a credit card. ::sigh:: Great experience and I'll be back! read more

First time client, my appointment was with Jenna. Super sweet, knowledgable and patient! My hair is long, thick and curly. She did full highlights, toner and touch up. She works fast but meticulously. I highly recommend her. I have been to Fuga many times and every time I go I receive excellent service. The decor and front staff are very welcoming and friendly. I have had several services at Fuga but mainly manicures and pedicures. Erin and Graciella are the best! Sometimes I go to the $10 cheapie nail salons in my area, but when you get a great manicure/pedicure you realize what you are missing. Prices are fair and service is outstanding! read more

This review is loooong overdue: My love affair for this salon started over a year ago when I was looking for a place to get a couple of facials before my wedding. I was having some skin issues and the Michigan ave location was referred to me by an excellent previous esthetician. I went and I have to say that I honestly had a result from DAY 1. I had been going to the derms office, and another salon (regularly) for over a year and had no significant improvement. Well I had the pumpkin facial and started using the comfort zone active pureness cleanser (yep JUST a cleanser) and then the moisturizer added later and it made a difference. What really sold me on the place was not just the products but the personal customer service. A couple of days before the wedding I had my last facial scheduled and the esthetician got sick, of course I was upset but they offered to have me seen at the southport location on a sunday and with a discount (given the situation). It was fabulous and I have seen Brooke since then. I have also had other services such as a haircut, blowout, color (another long story but basically if you ever want a non-conventional color -I had pink, they use a toner and it lasted for over 3 months!!!) and mani/pedis. Basically I have always been happy with the services and love going into a place where they know me by name and exactly what products I use. I always purchased my comfort zone products from there and they would hold them for me if they were low in stock or let me know if the other location had them. The owner was also awesome and made sure they used all the latest hair and skin techniques. I was devastated when I was moved out of state a couple of months ago, and couldn't find a salon that carried or used comfort zone and Brooke was amazing and found a salon for me! I really recommend this place for everyone and especially if you love the euro/italian atmosphere like I do. :-) read more

THE BEST SALON IN CHICAGO!! Each time I have been at FUGA I have had drastic changes done to my hair. I have gone from long to short (bob) and short to shorter, as you can see in the pic. Jaime cuts my hair and it's always PERFECT. There was never a time where i was dissatisfied. Jaime gets the job done, I just hope he doesn't go hollywood on us and leave.
