I've had many beautiful haircuts from Wendy at Flip Salon. Highly recommended. A little background: I have a lot of fine, long, frizzy, wavy hair. I had many bad haircuts in my life, including one (at a salon down the street from Flip) where the Ouidad debulking technique left me with odd 1 inch chunks of hair. Due to my fears, I stopped getting my hair cut for a year or more at a time, causing me to develop split ends/damage. Wendy at Flip looked at the picture I brought in and made my hair look just like it (long, bouncy layers). She listens, asks questions, and takes the time to make sure I feel comfortable with recommendations. I leave without any damage and now know I can trust her advice. She spends a great deal of time (thank goodness) patiently giving me the perfect blowout which lasts for days. I've finally found a hair stylist who helped me love my hair. And for the first time ever, my hair feels so healthy for months! I appreciate her online scheduling system. Pricing is reasonable. I've never felt rushed, and she's always been on time. I have half-curly/half semi-wavy hair, and it is a burden to find a stylist in Chicago who actually gets that and understands the problems with it. Kelly just cut my daughter's hair and I think she looks amazing. Ciera brought in a picture and the two of them discussed what length would work for her going off to college. My daughter was happy with the results as well. I also go to Kelly. I love the fact that when I am in for a service, I am her only client and her focus is solely on me, which allows me to leave in a timely manner. Wow!! The Dream Team of 'Dos (hair-dos, that is!) Kelly, Wendy & Karen (along with Lynn) have finally opened their own place, and it...is....AWESOME!!! First off, the salon is super hip and spacious. I know next to nothin' when it comes to decorating, but I am gonna call it 60s retro (??). Street parking is not a problem at all, and an easy walk from the Addison brown line. It's so stressful changing stylists, but between the price increases, sitting with color on for 55 minutes while she did another full cut and style in front of me, and zero flexibility in scheduling (8 weeks in advance? You're not that good...) I had to find somebody new. I searched local reviews and found Wendy at Flip, and I'm SO glad I did! Wendy is super sweet and easy to talk to, even offered a glass of wine! And most importantly she listened to what I wanted and absolutely nailed the color first time around. I could not be happier! Even my boyfriend noticed and complimented my color. I don't think he has ever done that before... Flip is a cute and comfortable space at a great location, just steps from Addison Brown Line on Lincoln, across from Trader Joe's. Love this place. Bright and cheery atmosphere. Went to get my first cut and style last Thursday and was welcomed at the door right away after having a horrible commute. But was well worth it. Wendy graciously made me feel welcome, sat me down, asked me what I wanted and after a quick hour flew by, I left feeling relaxed, and beautiful. The true test came after a long night, a bath, and a yoga class the next day, I pulled my hair down out of my pony tail and to my amazement my hair was as bouncy and beautiful as when I left the salon. I can't recommend Steff from Flip Salon enough!! We used to live in London and then Rio de Janeiro and I had my favorite hair dressers in both these places. After moving to Chicago, I went to 5 different salons and had a terrible experience in all of them. This is my favorite hair salon! It's conveniently located right off the Addison brown line (take the narrow exit at the front of the platform, not the main exit), and the space is really cute inside. I love the retro feel and clean lines. They offer you wine while you're getting your hair cut, which is pretty fantastic as well. I followed Wendy here (and would follow her anywhere), and am continually enamored with my haircuts! Her talent shines through not only in the cut immediately after, but weeks as well. I've never had it so well done that it even grows out beautifully! I cut off about eight inches several months ago and still get compliments on my hair. I merely give her an idea of what I want, and she delivers spot on every time. She's also such a doll- really friendly and fun. I visited Flip after a friend recommended them and then reading the reviews here on Yelp. I'm picky when it comes to salons and it's been over a year since my last haircut...reason being the last time I got a hair cut (at another salon) it was horrible! It basically scared me out of ever wanting to go back to a salon. I strongly considered learning how to cut my own hair. Anyways, it's been a year and my hair has been looking pretty bad with splitends, so I knew it was time to get a cut. I made an appointment at Flip. Ivelisse cut my hair and she was so great! I told her about my past bad experience and why I had been so nervous to go back to a salon. She was super patient with me, listened to what I wanted, and talked me through each step of the way. I know, I know I'm an adult and I shouldn't need to be coddled through the experience of getting my haircut, but I appreciated the reassurance. Flip Rocks. Finally the A Team is back together again - Kelly, Wendy, Karen, and Lynne. They are a talented bunch and going to the salon is just plain fun. I have been with Karen 15 years now, and would follow her anywhere. Karen listens to you but also tells you what will and will not work with your hair, face shape, etc. Honestly I usually just let Karen do what she wants with my hair and my color. The salon has a very relaxed vibe to it. The new space feels different than most salons - very hip but not trendy, if that makes sense. Not surprising because all of these girls (and I think there's a new guy) have a fabulous sense of their own style. Wendy is super sweet and always does a great job. She always seems to be able to squeeze me in last-minute, which is awesome. I originally found this place when I was in desperate need of a cut for a special occasion, and had waited till the last minute, as usual. I called several other salons in the area and they were all booked up. Then I tried Flip and Wendy told me she could see me right away! Awesome! I don't need to get my hair cut often, as it is a longer length, just a few trims per year and no special service like coloring or perms.
