Sat at the sushi bar and was pleasantly surprised by the excellent sushi. Try the yum yum roll. Service was quick despite the restaurant being busy.

Stopped in for lunch with my 4 year old. This was his first experience with a Japanese steakhouse that cooks in front of you. Our chef went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience and I was thankful for his exceptional service. Our hibachi chicken lunches were both delicious! The price was perfect and the amount of food was generous. We will definitely be back!

"Pink Lady" Roll (Huh?!?)
Rose E.

Well, it's been over 3 years since we first tried this place...so thought we'd give it another try! First of all, the sign outside read "FUJI JAP" (as the lights were out on the letter "A" and "N"). Hmmmmm. I'm not even Japanese, but the word "Jap" offends me...so you'd think the Owner/Manager would get this fixed ASAP? OK...not a great start (entry) into the restaurant lol...but no matter! The place was quite bustling, especially on the Hibachi side (left of the restaurant). Again, I'll just say that I love the wide floor space and layout of the restaurant...and the color of the wallpaper (deep burgundy). Sadly, the ambiance is just patchy at best. For starters, we were seated right next to their busy "Carry Out" table, with various brown bags. We should have requested to move to another table, but really, we retired to the fact that no matter where you sat, we weren't really going to get much ambiance, so to speak. Zero overhead music...tons of sports TV screens (is this a sports bar or a Japanese restaurant?!?), etc. etc. Also, there were 2-3 nice paintings on the wall, but it's just totally random...as the paintings (Italian or French scenery??) would fit the motif of an Italian restaurant. Not sure what they were thinking...but again, I found the ambiance very "patchy". It's a shame 'cuz this place could easily be a nice restaurant, but due to the lack of finer details, the place is reduced to that of a fairly rough restaurant. If I remember correctly, we had a waitress that could barely speak or remember to bring us water last time. Well, our waitress was just a tad better. On to the food! My husband ordered the Katsu Bento Box (like last time?), and this time, I tried the "Pink Lady" Specialty Roll. We also got the Shrimp Tempura appetizer to share. Tempura appetizer was pretty good...and sizable. However, I was very disappointed with the presentation of this "Pink Lady". For one, it didn't even look like a "Pink Lady Roll". All the "PINK" was hidden underneath the fried batter and sauce...and the layout was quite basic. Nothing like what I saw on their Yelp page! Honestly, it was the ugliest "Pink Lady" roll I've ever had. At least it was served on a nice plate?? *SIGH* ANYWAY, luckily, the roll tasted better than it looked. My husband seemed to enjoy the generous varieties in the bento box. Despite the awkward ambiance, sloppy food presentation and just passable service, both my husband and I thought the foods were solid. Not exceptional, but good, solid Japanese food...especially for a small town like Rock Hill. I think I felt this way on my first visit 3 years ago as well. So yeah...if you want good Japanese food, but don't care about ambiance, service and all that jazz, you may like the place. For me, this place just doesn't deliver enough to satisfy. There are just too many great Japanese restaurants in Charlotte that deliver on all points (food, service, presentation and ambiance), and at similar price points! So for me, I would personally drive an extra 20-30 minutes to get MORE than just good food! However, my husband would gladly skip the drive...so there's a chance that we'll return.

I've been here twice & the food was good both times. The first time I came it took a really long time for them to start cooking. I just went back again and they moved faster but the portion was extremely small.

Sushi for Two

We came for a late dinner at Fuji Japan on a late Saturday night. The restaurant closes at 10:30 pm on Saturdays so it was just right for our late night meal. As soon as we came in the door, we were greeted by the host and she sat us down quickly. They have a variety of sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls and an area for family hibachi. Our waiter Jonathan was really nice and friendly. We shared a sushi dinner for two. It came with the Miso soup or salad, we chose the Miso soup. It had a romantic feel on the table side of the restaurant with soft lighting. The other side of the restaurant had the hibachi style seating and brighter lighting. The patrons were entertained by their cooks. They have a full bar in the middle of the restaurant. We had a lovely night with a lovely meal.

And to those of you who write reviews, as I do, you owe it to the staff, management and owners to immediately deal with it. I did not want to make a scene as it was a busy weekend, so I was wrong. I later talked with Tony, one of the owners, who was extremely helpful as we went over the issue. Unfortunately, my bad, there was little he could do to rectify the situation and to determine just why the steak was not to my satisfaction. For whatever the reason, I can assure you, as I did with Tony, that when my wife and I return that is there are any issues I will immediately bring it up to the manager. She seemed very distracted, she was very cut short when we spoke to her and rushed us through ordering both our drinks and our meal which took longer than expected. However, another server named Cody truly stepped in and turned things around for us. His effort did not go unnoticed and made a huge difference in our visit. We also want to shout out the wonderful lady who brought out our food with the dinosaur checkbook..she was a breath of fresh air and added such a positive touch to our experience. She literally shined a light where we were considering not visiting again due to our waitresses attitude. As for the food, it was delicious overall! I ordered the ribs and they were great. My husband ordered the steak, which unfortunately wasn't cooked very well, but all the sides, shrimp, bread and both of our children's adult burgers were cooked perfectly. Because of Cody and the amazing support from Dino book girl, we will definitely be back!

It completely blows my mind that Texas roadhouse as a company doesn't care if you have a large group coming in. I called an hour and a half before my party arrived of 20 and spoke with a large party manager Montana and my party had to wait close to two hours after our arrival for a table. What blows my mind is that they will put parties of a smaller number on their weight as a call ahead and they don't have to wait as long. However, large parties don't get that same courtesy. I feel like this policy is completely backwards and it frustrates me to no end. I'm not sure if it's because the majority of the staff is young or they just don't care but I have a hard time interacting with them. There were several interactions during our visit they ruined the experience. For example since we had to wait the long period of time I told all of my family to know what they wanted to order. I asked the hostess for a menu for an older family member to look at and she told me they didn't have menus that I could either scan and look at the menu on a phone or stand and look at the menu tucked away close to the To-go area. I said I need the menu for a person over 75 yrs old and she looked at me like tough cookies and continued back to what she was doing. I'm so glad the Steele Creek area is getting a new location and hopefully we won't have to deal with some of this. Probably won't fix the large party issue (since this seems like a general company policy) but it makes me happy we won't have to travel so far to get to a location on a regular basis. We were a little confused as to how to enter the restaurant, but I chalk that up to being tired. The space is wide open and airy, with large windows and skylights. The restaurant was nice and clean, save for something that was splashed on the wall in our booth - but it's a restaurant. There's going to be little picky things here and there and I'm sure it was wiped down by the end of the day! Our hostess was also our server and she was so knowledgeable about the menu. I took her suggestions at every turn and did not regret it. We started off with the Bang Bang Brussels Sprouts app and let me tell you - I could've eaten that as my entire meal. They are SO delicious and I'll be dreaming of them until I can return to Rock Hill. Holy cow, they were good - crispy on the outside, loaded with flavor and just enough spice to give the sweetness a little bite. So good. My husband had the country fried steak and he said it was very good. Not the best he's ever had, he said, but good enough. He wished there'd been more steak and less crust, but the flavor was right on. They were out of the salt and pepper flounder, so I changed my order to the ranch chicken. Ummmm....excuse me. Who says not to order chicken breasts at restaurants? The portion size is SO generous and the chicken is SO DELICIOUS that I, the girl who rarely bothers to take leftovers, boxed up what was left and brought it back to my hotel and ate it as a midnight snack. The grilled zucchini served on the side of it was delicious. If I ever get back, I'll ask if I can skip the potatoes in favor of more of that zucchini! We didn't really have room for dessert, but when we heard about the warm banana pudding, we were curious. DO NOT SKIP THIS DESSERT. If you're a banana pudding fan, this will blow your mind. Absolutely incredible! It's both warm and cool at the same time, caramelized bananas and a torched meringue topping were bowl-licking delicious. All in all, this was a fantastic experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We ordered different temps and they couldn't tell which was which. Wife ordered a salad and for the price, there was barely anything there. Mac and cheese is still the star. Oysters were decent - I expected larger. The half chicken was a generous portion - nice crispy outside but a bit dry inside. I wouldn't order it (I almost did, but my one of our party did).
