Found this new spot online, so decided to make the 35 minute drive from Ballantyne to Rock Hill, because I never let distance deter me from the possibility of discovering hidden gems when it comes to sushi, but spoiler alert, I should have taken the L on this one and saved both the gas money and the overpriced lunch cost. Arrived around 11:15am, and the restaurant was completely empty even though it opened for lunch at 11am. Can't comment on the buffet offerings, as they had not stocked it yet (heads up if you plan to arrive early for the buffet). Server said desserts and salad would eventually be set up (they were available as I was walking out after I had finished my meal). Wanted to focus on nigiri and sashimi and had no issue paying the predictable $0.50/pc charge that places charge for sashimi at the AYCE spots around Charlotte, but was surprised to find that sashimi was a "dinner only" item, along with more than half the nigiri menu. Only nigiri during lunch is mackerel, tuna, tamago, masago, red snapper, salmon, shrimp, crab, and tobiko. Hard to believe no eel, scallop, surf clam, squid, octopus, yellowtail are included as part of the AYCE lunch menu and no sashimi options at all. The way it was explained to me, these are premium items that cost more, but when I explained that every other AYCE place offers them during lunch, I was told that Mikado uses higher quality than everywhere else...um ok. Weird thing is that teriyaki menu was also cut in half by 50% during lunch, so needless to say, not much in the way of value when you are paying $18.99 for AYCE lunch (50% off coupon was only for one day during soft opening) and the menu excludes numerous items. Ended up getting only one nigiri- red snapper, given none of the normal nigiri items were available during lunch. Also decided on the 3 in 1 roll and the Dragon roll. Given that my wife is actually from Japan, I totally understand the weird concept of Chinese owned sushi restaurants, but it was a total fail when the server incorrectly stated multiple times that the sushi chefs were both Japanese and Chinese "and all that" to quote her directly, even after I asked are you sure, because it is so rare to find Japanese sushi chefs outside of major cities, and yet she was adamant that they some of the chefs were in fact from Japan. I asked which part of Japan and she proceeded to say that they don't speak any English, but she would ask the owner. Needless to say, the owner confirmed that of course none of the sushi chefs were from Japan and that they were all Chinese. This may be considered a small thing to some, but demonstrates a complete lack of training at best and cultural ignorance at worst. Once the owner corrected the server for her error, she came off as irritated and annoyed in my opinion vs being thankful to have been educated that there is a huge difference between Japanese and Chinese, as they are two unique cultures that cannot simply be lumped together as "and all that". Once the food came, it was mediocre at best and definitely not worth the $18.99 price tag, especially given all the similar to cheaper price points within a 30 minute radius. Normally I would do multiple rounds at AYCE places, but after finishing my subpar meal, I decided to cut my losses, get my check, and count this one as the L I should have taken before getting in my car an hour earlier. Have tried numerous mediocre sushi places across the region, but in my opinion, this one is even below the proverbial Mendoza line for all the above mentioned reasons. read more

The service was fast, polite, and genuinely wonderful. I really enjoyed the all-you-can-eat à la carte buffet, which offers a great variety of freshly made dishes. The unlimited fruit, dessert, and ice cream selection included in the price is an excellent bonus, and there are plenty of options to choose from. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience with an impressive selection and quality. The only small downside is that if you place a lot of orders, some items can occasionally seem a bit over-fried. Even so, it's a great value, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. read more

The sushi was great and fresh, the cut sizes were different from the first time I came which was a lot better than trying to eat a piece of sushi the size of a cookie. They maybe should hire a few more waitresses, I often had to pause to wait for a refill before I could continue eating my sushi. All 4 of my rolls were a 10/10 read more

If you are in Rock Hill and want AYCE sushi, this will be the place to be. The concept is slightly different from other AYCE, it has a menu to order your sushi, sushi appetizers, and your Habachi dishes. But there is a cold and hot buffet bar with some Chinese dishes, soup, fruits, and salad. Also there is a freezer for ice cream all included. The food tasted great, I like the scallops a lot. The nigiri tasted fresh. The service also excellent, our sever Chad was nice and friendly. The food that we ordered from the menu comes fast. The restaurant is clean and nice. We were quoted a 25 min wait for our call in order. My husband waited about 1 hour total for our food. They did discount the total by 15% for the long wait. Overall, I was not impressed by the food. The sushi roll had lettuce in it, which I wasn't a fan of. We ordered the spider roll and lettuce wasn't in the description. I ordered the steak hibachi. The steak was not tender. The fried rice was probably the best that I've had. Tip, if you love shrimp sauce like I do, order an extra one because these are small. The best sushi place within 2 hours of charlotte no joke, my girlfriend and I have tried nearly every single all you can eat sushi restaurant in that radius and nothing comes close. The hibachi and Teriyaki is great, my Dad gets it all the time, comes in a huge portion, tender steak delicious noodles. Ive had unagi, tuna, tobiko, and salmon nigiri, the salmon melts in you're mouth its so good, the sashimi and nigiri quality is a 10/10.All the sushi appetizers are amazing, while the specialty rolls never dissapoint. My favorites are the Naruto roll as it tastes so refreshing, and the mountain roll, as it comes in only 5-6 amazing deep fried pieces with red snapper which I had never tried previously. The spicy krab meat is also really good as its not just spicy mayo, they make their own mix im not sure what it is. They have desserts and such on the buffet table as well as ice cream which is also nice after a huge meal. I've been 4 times and the service has been amazing each time, I believe my girlfriend and I spoke to the owner and he is extremely nice and welcoming. Overall, an amazing restaurant, and my go-to pick by far, coming from 2 people who have tried over a dozen different sushi restaurants all over charlotte, and eat sushi multiple times a week. read more

We were excited to try Mikado Sushi. New places in Rock Hill that are not fast food are always nice. Unfortunately we came away disappointed. The food simply didn't taste as fresh as you would want it to be, especially when it comes to Sushi. The soft shell crab appetizer was probably the most disgusting thing I have ever bitten into (and promptly spit back out). The Calamari appetizer tasted like it had been sitting in a freezer for a bit too long. Both the Salmon and Tuna Sashimi and Nigiri were marked as being sold out. The Sushi rolls themselves did not have all the ingredients listed (mainly the sauces used), so several were unexpectedly spicy. The service that was provided was underwhelming as well. Our server was curt, bordering on ride. We mentioned that it was our first time visiting, but no explanation of the different food offerings was offered. When other restaurants closed early we stopped in to try this new place. Excellent food! Everything was fresh and very tasty. Had to try many items all great. Sushi and sashimi included in dinner all you can eat price. Will be nice when they get their liquor license to add wine to the great food. We'll be back soon to this neighborhood gem. read more

Went last night on valentines day with my daughter her spouse and my son and his gf and my husband and I. I asked how the menu worked. $26.99 all you can eat buffet includes the sushi. First my kids ordered the shrimp fried rice. It came with 4 small shrimp with rice that was doused with soy on a dish small enough for a child. Went to the bar. It was minimal. Then the sushi came it was plentiful. Now all the food was excellent. When we got to pay we split the bill. My daughter and her husband got their bill it was $93.00 ours for 4 ppl 2 with bar 2 without. It was $114. Itemized was all the plates. if I hadn't about it we would have been over charged. just watch your check ppl. read more
