I'm a big fan of Fuji Steak House in Florence, particularly their sushi. It was refreshing to see a Japanese restaurant open for Eastsiders too. The outside of the restaurant does not do it justice. This building has been various BBQ joints in the past, and the exterior depicts that. Inside, however, is beautifully decorated with oriental themes and is very clean. Then the experience gets...interesting. As my family and I entered the restaurant, we were greeted by 1999 Britney Spears music but with Japanese vocals. Then the Hibachi chef arrived. He did the expected entertainment: playing with fire, juggling the kitchen tools, etc. Then he made an onion volcano, with flames rocketing into the air. Suddenly, he pulls out a little plastic man and presses on his head. The toy pulls down it's pants and pees water on the onion volcano. The chef says, "Wee, wee, wee!" as he squirts both the fire and the customers. While the food is good, the restaurant is clearly marketed to a rural clientele who are likely experiencing their first Japanese restaurant. Urban folks and sushi aficionados will likely find Eastgate Fuji to be tacky. Price per person: $20.00 read more

Best Feature: Love the interior! Good sushi! Worst Feature: Not as delicious as other Japanese steak houses. This business recently opened in the past year or so, and it wasn't long after it opened that a friend and I headed out to check out this new restaurant. The interior is absolutely amazing - they have enclosed booths you can sit at, which make you feel like you're sitting in your own mini room. They also have the hibachi grills where you can sit and watch your food prepared. I really enjoy how they decorated the place, and it is definitely inviting to anyone walking in. They have a great selection on their menu - the usual assortment of sushi, sashimi, hibachi, and more! Their prices are pretty average for a Japanese restaurant, and I believe they even have lunch specials! The few times I've been there, the service is almost always decent. I believe I've only had maybe two experiences where the service was less than desirable; otherwise it's good! I did knock them down a star for that, though, as I know of several Japanese restaurants where the service is flawless - friendly, helpful, and attentive! They are always sure to greet you on your way in and thank you for the visit upon departure. I really love that extra effort to acknowledge customers! The food itself is good quality - the only complaint I have is I'm not a big fan of all of their sushi rolls, and it's hard to go wrong with sushi for me. They give you a decent portion for the price, but it's not always as appetizing. I knocked them down a star for that, which might seem extreme except I've been to several restaurants where every single dish is prepared wonderfully and tastes fantastic! If you're in the area and want to check out a new hibachi restaurant, I'd definitely stop in! It's worth a visit for sure. read more

Sushi is average- and slightly over priced. Let's put it this way I rather go grab some sushi from jungle jims and go home and binge out! Sorry to say but I was not impressed! But I can only speak for the sushi, I have not tried anything else on their menu. read more

Let me first say that the food, at least, the Hibachi was very good. It was a nice tasting and fulfilling meal. I'm only giving 3-stars because we went here with young kids. Part of the appeal and expectation in going to a Hibachi grill is for the experience...the entertainment of the chef. I didn't feel like the chef put much effort into the "show" aspect of the meal. It wasn't an empty show, but it felt as though he was just going through the motions; no pizzazz, no showmanship. So while the food was good, the overall experience didn't quite meat expectations. Also, I thought the carpet was really old and dirty-looking. I don't doubt that they vacuum it every night, but it just looked really old, faded, and persistent stains. It's time to change it, IMO. read more

Food was amazing as always! Always more than we can eat, I love having some to take home! Though, this time I was little surprised by some changes to our meal, I'm almost positive that our dinner came with shrimp appetizers, when we inquired about them, we were told they were with our meal..... Nothing, appetizer looking was with our meal, but didn't press it. Only shrimp related item was, plain pan seared shrimp came with what we ordered. Also ordered a warm sake, that I saw priced at 3.95$or so, and appeared as over ten on bill. All in all, I can't complain though, the food really is amazing! read more

Everything was good about this place. The service, the food, the atmosphere. I'm not really a fan of rice but I really love their rice..maybe it's the fried egg they chop into to it..I dunno. Their steak is pretty good..as is their chicken. The chef was excellent..and in the end it is really he who controls the overall experience. read more

I have been going to Fuji for as long as it has been opened. Normally I am very happy with the food and service. This last time, I was very disappointed in the food and the hibachi chef. The portions were very small compared to prior times. The chef was very hurried in cooking the food, the only extra thing he did was toss the veggies into our mouths, the volcano and put out the fire. He wasn't very friendly. We had a party of 7, all but one of us have eaten there several times and we all commented on the how the prices are expensive for the portion of food you get. They even charge extra for fried rice, instead of including it in the hibachi price. Some of my friends want to go back, but I'm looking for another place to get my Hibachi fix, unless things change. read more

Please clean! Place is covered with grease. Floors are sticky, tables are all sticky, it disgusts me. The is mediocre, our ginger was old and dry. If their seating are is dirty I would not want to see the kitchen. I am not a fan. read more

Went for appetizers and early dinner on a Friday. Had a a couple of drinks at the bar/sushi . Noticed they only have bottle beer ...no draft. Full bar .drinks were fine. I had to change my review because even though the service is still mediocre- they have become a staple in my house! My boyfriend gets the fly shrimp sushi and LOVES it and as always I get the chicken hibachi with the BROWN SAUCE which I have recently learned is ginger sauce. It may be a little pricey but the serving size more than makes up for it. read more

Terrible service, and I mean terrible! The staff spends their time on cell phones at the front of restaurant. Food is average and way overpriced. Decor is outdated, always seem to have a musky smell. All in all I would say choose another restaurant if you looking for a nice evening out. read more

BeniWHO?...I can honestly say this place deserves 5 stars for my dining experience... Our bartender/waitress was very polite and helpful, every sushi roll we got with delicious... They don't have to smother it with spicy mayonnaise to hide the bad quality grade sushi like not to mention names..ahem.. cloud 9.. Last but not least the miso soup and house salad which may I add came with the meal. Was a winner.. A very underrated restaurant I recommend to any. read more

This is my go to place for quick carry out sushi. They are quick with a large chef menu which gives you a lot of variety. I like the hibachi tables but my husband and I love their private booths because let's face it while the hibachi show is impressive it's really only impressive the first 15 times. Sushi is awesome here. I am actually kicking myself for not going here earlier. Ordered online, paid at the restaurant, I got the sushi deluxe which was extremely fresh and the fish was oh so tender. The fish literally melted in my mouth. Godzilla roll was different with seaweed on top, otherwise very, very good. We went there for a Father's Day dinner. The food is OK...not the best but OK. My biggest disappointment was when I left my Father's Day Card there and tried to come back the next day to see if they found it. I was told that they found it the night before but couldn't find it now. Someone there actually opened up the envelope and the card and took my $25 gift card from Outback. They even remember seeing the gift card but couldn't find it now! So they apologized and gave me a lousy coupon for $15 off if I bought two dinners. Isn't it funny how we were originally waited on by several Caucasians but when it came to this I was sent to several Asians who barely spoke English. How convenient. read more

My review is solely based on their lunch. I work up in Eastgate and have eaten lunch here many of times. Their hibachi is amazing. The portions are definitely enough for two meals. I love the staff. And their yum yum sauce is liquid heaven. I've always gotten right in and never had to wait. Definitely worth a try. read more
