I've heard nothing but good reviews about this place so I decided finally to stop by while I was passing over on this side of town. I know I'm probably not gonna be popular with my opinions, but they are in fact my opinions in my feeling about what I had today. Food--4/10. If you know me, I hate to leave less than stellar reviews for places. But I was very unimpressed by the food here today. Almost everything was bland and locked flavor. The gyoza was over fried, the hibachi items were cooked well but lacking all seasoning, the mango rock roll tasted like nothing, and the spicy shrimp tempura roll had neither flavor nor spice. The only decent role was the sweet potato roll. I'll also say even the wasabi had no kick. I literally took the entire dollop and put it on a roll just to try to get some flavor from it. Also for the tempura items, they don't bring you any kind of Ponzu or dipping sauce. All you get is the regular Yum Yum sauce or soy sauce. I left my review at a four out of ten because all of the food items were prepared for the most part aesthetically, pleasing, visually and fully cooked pour the parts that were cooked. Service--7/10. The staff here was definitely amiable. I wouldn't say they were very friendly. They kind of addressed everything very mechanically. Even the food when it's brought out multiple orders are brought out by one person, and they dropped them at various tables without saying a word. I did not get a refill of my drink for the first time until the end of my meal. Atmosphere--9/10. This is one of the few times I have not taken a picture of the interior of a restaurant to share the atmosphere. Usually, I avoid taking pictures when there's a good amount of people around because I feel like I'm invading their time with their meal and companions. So all I can really say about this location is it is generally pleasing. It's it's clean. I'll be a bit crowded with the tables. The location is in a strip mall in Mandarin and parking is a little weird. The parking spots are very close though. All know it was an OK visit for the price. I feel like in my personal opinion there is much better sushi out there for only a couple dollars more per person for the buffet. But based on the crowds, they're even today it's obviously a popular location. It just was not my idea of good sushi. read more

So we have been coming here since they opened 11 years ago. We always love the food. They just started opening in March on Sunday so we came tonight and they are short staffed. Service was horrible!!!! Waited forever to bring food and we had to ask over and over about some items. They really need to do better. read more

I have been coming to this location of Fuji Sushi for a very long time! I can say they've had some ups and downs over the years but they are definitely on an up now! Also now they stay open all day- yay! and lunch still ends at 3:30pm...The sushi is so fresh and delicious (the rest of the menu is great too) and its AYCE. We love the green dragon roll, the rainbow roll, the BMW roll, the Mango shrimp roll, Jaguar roll, the fried gyoza, the steamed gyoza, the spring rolls, the crab wontons & even the ginger salad dressing is great. So if you're hungry definitely go check it out for lunch or dinner sometime. :) read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for some time for the all you can eat sushi and hibachi. My daughter and I went on a Saturday during lunch and it was pretty busy. We only waited for about 15 minutes before being seated. My first impression walking in was it was dark inside and the tables are VERY close to each other. We were seated in the back and the tables next to us were so close I had to walk sideways just to sit on the opposite end of our table. After about 5 minutes of sitting, our waitress took our drink order but didn't explain how things worked as far as ordering. Maybe she thought we were regulars? We did see people around us that seemed to know what they were doing but it would have been nice to ask if we've been there before. Anyways, we saw the little pieces of papers on our table and just jotted the corresponding numbers of the menu items we both wanted on this paper. When the waitress returned we gave it to her. The food would then sporadically be brought to us on small plates. One thing we realized is each person should fill in their own orders per sheet and write their seat number (seat number was written on the paper placemat where you were sitting). The food was ok. I enjoyed the salmon. The steak was inconsistent whereas the first order was tender and flavorful however the second order was tough and gristly. My daughter said the sushi was ok. It looked very simple with just raw fish on a mound of rice. She didn't care for the deep fried roll because of the batter. The lunch price is a good deal for what they offer. The only caveat is knowing what to order that's good because they have a No Waste Policy and will charge you for leftovers. Overall the price was reasonable. I didn't care how the tables were too close together and how dark it was inside. As far as service, there may have been a language barrier between our waitress because when I tried to ask a question about something on the menu (I just wanted to know how many pieces of sushi came in an order), she waved her hand and said "No" assuming she didn't know anything about the menu. read more

I've been here a few times and this has to be the worst service I have experienced. The food that was to be hot was cold. When the person from my party told the waiter he pops it in the microwave and now it's hot and rubbery. The sweet/sour sauce is watered down. Service was extremely slow. Wait staff standing about while customers look around for their food to come. When providing cutlery and other foods, they reach over your food to give it to the person across the from you. This restaurant is a made-to-order japanese restaurant. You have two options when it comes to pricing where the higher price gives you more options. They are ALWAYS busy. Even when you come when they open, plan on waiting a little bit because folks wait for them to open. The last time we went, service was extremely slow to start. We sat down and waited almost 10 minutes for our server. You pick what you want from a menu and write down the number on a piece of paper that they take and give to the staff to make said items. Sushi here is pretty good. I usually opt for the cheaper price and my go-to is a shrimp tempura roll, but I normally try a little bit of everything. I don't go for the kitchen items because I feel it's a waste of stomach space for me(lol), but my wife isn't very fond of sushi, so that's what she chooses. She said her kitchen items weren't very good and I'd agree because some of the items tasted old. I've been a loyal customer of Fuji Sushi location in San Jose for over 5 years. My wife, two kids, and I usually go there every couple of weeks. Today's experience was awful. The salmon and cream cheese in one of the rolls tasted spoiled -- it had a rotten, sour flavor. I told our server politely, and a manager came over. Instead of taking my concern seriously, she accused me of lying and insisted the food was fine. And she SAID!! ( I tried on piece and it's good ) I know what their food usually tastes like -- we've eaten here dozens of times. I even started feeling sick afterward and couldn't finish my meal. Still, the manager refused to offer a replacement or any solution and just brought the check, even though I only ate two pieces. After years of being a regular customer, I was shocked at how rude and unprofessional the staff were. I won't be coming back. Fuji Sushi is a Jacksonville Staple. All my friends and family have recommended it and when I first went I loved it. I would recommend going during lunch hours since it will be cheaper. The only difference is that you may not get some dishes that they offer during dinner. The wait tends to be long so I would come early and sign up on their sheet. Lunch hours tend to get busy especially on the weekends. The quality of their sushi is great for how much you pay for. I would also be wary to not order too much no matter how hungry you are. You may end up having to pay a fee if there are leftovers. The service may take a little while depending on when you go. Sometimes I put in my order and will get it within 10 minutes and other times I will wait 20 minutes to 30 minutes. read more

The ambiance is nice and no outlandish decorations. The servers do their best to get everything you order out to you quickly and efficiently. If you have never been here it's a good must try for fresh sushi and other things like the rice and soups and fried shrimp and tempura veggies. You go in and are seated, you have a menu and a paper your placemats are numbered and that is your seat number. You fill out your paper with the items you would like, one side for things cooked in the kitchen (soups, fried items and such) or a side from the sushi bar which are made fresh when ordered. I don't care for the handrolls or the mango sushi but the shrimp rolls with the spicy sauce and crab on top are my favorites. The only flaw is that occasionally they might forget to bring something you ordered. Depending on how busy they are it might take time to get some items. The freshness and taste don't fail though. For a AYCE sushi, it's great for the money. Can't go wrong with $20.99 per person on weeknights! If they're not busy, you won't have to wait long to get seated nor for your food. New menus are a nice upgrade (not flimsy and also smaller in size so it doesn't crowd the table). The wait staff are efficient and do their job but nothing over the top. This is probably the worst restaurant I've been to in Jacksonville. We sat toward the back of the restaurant near the kitchen entrance on a Wednesday night. There was a stack of empty boxes, unclean tables nearby, and a generally terrible smell wafting from the back. The sushi was presented fine for an all-you-can-eat joint, but lacked flavor. I then made the mistake of looking up this restaurant's inspection violations online, and I can't believe I let someone else talk me into trying this place. My family came in at 658 pm tonight and was told we need half of three party which is 13, we then had 10 people at 715 and came back was told the wait was 40 minutes. If I could give zero stares I would. Let me start off my husband and I went during a middle of the week night, it was not busy at all. We also had our baby with us in a carseat. As we are being seated there is a woman who works there just staring at us with a scowl. My husband went to get a highchair to put our daughter in and she continued to give us such a mean stare down. We obviously felt super uncomfortable, decided to forgo the highchair, because the first one we had was broken. We had our order slips ready, it took over 15 minutes for them to pick them up. Also, again we're not busy. The sushi bar next to us, had old sushi just sitting on the bar in to-go containers. The woman who scowled was putting wasabi on a plate and when she was down she threw it on the bar, which was not sanitary and also not necessary to throw it. At that moment I felt super uncomfortable and felt like this place was not clean and decided with my husband that we would like to leave. Offered to pay for our order we put in and our drink, but the guy said don't worry about it. The restaurant needs to be cleaned, miss matched chairs. Table was sticky. Floor just seemed gross. I enjoyed my visit to this restaurant. My wife and I were meeting up with friends and family for a birthday. We had a larger party, but not so big that they couldn't accommodate us, and they were able to do so quickly. It took a minute for me to understand how the ordering worked. Write down on a piece of paper what you wanted and they bring it out to you. We ordered multiple rounds of sushi and different appetizers. They did make one mistake where they had half of my requested items on my place and half of the requested items from the table behind me. I can see how this can happen and the table behind me and I shared a laugh and corrected them ourselves. Some items took a long time to arrive, as if they had been forgotten all together. Finally tried the Fuji in Mandarin and just like there other locations in Jacksonville I was not disappointed. Fuji does all you can eat the right way by having everything made to order with very quick service so you never have to wonder how long the food has been sitting out. Now don't get ahead of your self though because they will charge you if you have multiple sushi rolls left over. You can not beat their Ultimate Lunch Special with is $12.99 for all you can eat ranging from all different types of sushi to tempera shrimp and gyoza. You will have to call ahead though if you are not trying to wait since once it gets into peak lunch hours there will be a wait. One thing I liked about this location were that there were so new rolls on their menu that I have not seen at their other locations which turned out to be really good. Another thing we noticed was that they have drink specials with the Ultimate Dinner Special. You can add a beer or a sake to your order for only a dollar more which is great. Nicely done post-COVID buffet-style dining. "All you can eat" for 14.99 (Saturdays). You fill out an order with a couple of things and it gets run up to the sushi bar or kitchen to be filled. Brought to your table in small tapas-size plates. Be careful not to order more than you can eat, because they'll charge you 0.50 cents for each leftover piece. They're nice about making that clear on the menu and the order sheet. And their portion sizes are about 1/2 or 1/3 rolls, so you can get more variety before filling up. Easier to gauge what they'll bring you , so you don't over order. Compared to the place over on Old Saint Augustine Road, where they want $1 per piece for over ordering and bring out huge rolls and side dishes - making it really hard to judge and leaving you feeling like you've been scammed. So much better execution here. Plus better freshness and flavor. I'll be back. read more

One of the worst experiences I have ever had got there around 11:44 and yes it was kinda busy. Ordered what we wanted and sat there for about 30 to 40 mins to even get something out got 4 rolls before the appetizers then slowly got the rice and noddles. The rice was cold, steak hard, chicken dry. Overall the worst and ended up getting the wrong menu ordered then ended up getting told that I ordered the wrong menu and you guessed it ended up waiting again for my food. We used to come here all the time and it was great. But it's since gone wayyyyyy down hill. You used to be greeted with such a happy staff and the sushi was delicious. But our most recent trips, not even a single greeting. Even after we sat down, the waitress came over and just stared at us. Not even a "hello" or even a "what can I get you to drink". Not a single word. We proceeded saying hello to help prompt a normal waitress-customer conversation. She said hi, and then still not a word. So we awkwardly told her two waters, please. She then walked away to get the waters. Again, not a single word. The food took forever to come out. They used to be on their game, with your orders coming out one after the other, but now it's just forever. We got the apps half-way through our other orders. And the deep fried rolls aren't what they used to be. The breading is much different and super thick, like bread. It was nasty. It used to be a light breading and deep fried, now it's like a sushi roll rolled in white bread and fried. It's just nasty. The portions are still the same, so no change there. Only mentioned this because I saw some comments complaining that they're appetizer-size, but that's how most, if not all, sushi buffet places are. I've been to several others and they are all like this, which I do like so I can try numerous rolls before getting full, as opposed to 8-10 pieces of just one. I enjoy my 4-5 pieces so I can try a few. Let alone it cuts down on waste. Overall they just have let both their quality and service slip. It's not the same as it used to. Compared to other places in Jax, this is the best whether you want to eat a lot or not. Another AYCE sushi place to bookmark! I've been to the Fuji Sushi in San Marco and it was my first experience ever at an AYCE sushi, and I honestly did not know of this location until my date suggested it. Man... and I no longer live on this side of town. LOL, but is was worth the drive! We came when they opened at 5 and as soon as they opened there were multiple groups of families, couples, etc. ready to go in. You know a place is good when there's a lot of people ready to feast! Each table has the condiments that plates that you need, as well as plenty of pens and AYCE menus for you to check off your selection as you go. They were pretty fast too from the time it takes for them to pick up our selections to when the food came out to us. Everything that I had was delicious and enjoyable. We paced ourselves and only ordered what we knew we wanted and can finish, as there is a surcharge if you have leftover food at your table. Service was great and our beverages were constantly refilled when they ran low. Parking lot is tight as it is shared with other businesses, but there is plenty of parking.
