5 stars for O-ku! One of my favorite restaurants, it's one of our go-to's for special occasions! We've gone for birthdays, anniversaries, when family/friends come to visit from out of town! The food and service are consistently good every time we go and the ambience is always so fun! We've sat in the dining areas downstairs and upstairs as well as right at the sushi counter- all wonderful experiences! The food is excellent!! We usually order a few apps, a few sushi rolls to share, sometimes sushi/nigiri as well! Particular favs include the crispy rice, lobster temaki, and Oceanside, Fuego, and blazing saddles rolls, to name a few. The drinks are also amazing here! This place is the first I've seen with the option to put Parmesan cheese on your espresso martini -apparently it's a thing?!- glad I tried it though I do prefer my espresso martinis parm free...but how fun!! The Shogun and plum martini are great options...I think I've enjoyed every drink I've tried at O-ku actually, so you can't go wrong!Their drink menu is quite fun and inventive! This is an update to my previous 5-star review. I hope it doesn't erase all that, because it says a lot of good things. Unfortunately, our last visit to O-Ku was not the best. We started with the edamame, with the sea salt and truffle oil, which is always delicious. The service over the evening was very slow, and we spent a lot of time waiting on food. We sat in our favorite spot at the bar window so our server also appeared the be working behind the bar and was busy making drinks. We love sake and usually get a bottle of the Noble Arrow. We asked for a recommendation and the server recommended the Soul of the Sensei, which is $107 for the bottle. We were celebrating our 24th anniversary so we went for it. He said it was on the dry side, but we found it very unexpectedly sweet, almost like a moskato wine. It wasn't surprising when we read the back of the label and saw the flavor profile was all the way on the fruity side, with notes of Muscat grape. We definitely made a mistake by not tasting it first, so we ended up asking for a bag to take it home and ordered 2 glasses of the Noble Arrow. It was a disappointing start. Next we ordered the yellowtail carpaccio, which was very good, although the size of the fish pieces overall seemed smaller than usual. Everything we ordered over the evening was undeniably tasty, but small. We got the Usuzukuri salmon and when they brought it, they had the tuna carpaccio as well. The person who brought it said it was a gift. Later, we were charged $2 on the bill for the "gift." It's not much, but it's just that giving us a gift and then putting a charge on the bill for it was very strange. Overall, I still love the food at O-Ku, but this was not the best experience. We had gone there previously for our anniversary and they made it feel special. This time there wasn't any kind of recognition besides possibly the "gift" we had to pay extra for. And the service was so slow that we ended up drinking the bottle of sake we didn't like rather than waiting for another drink order. Every place will have its off nights, and this unfortunately seemed to be one of them. I would still recommend going there, because even though the portions are tiny and expensive, the taste is delicious. read more

Made a reservation ahead of time to celebrate my boyfriend's new job. We sat downstairs and ordered our favorites - the crispy tuna and lychee martini! Both so good. For the sushi, we got fuego, Oceanside, and spicy tuna roll. I think these three are our go to's for sure! Our waitress was kind and attentive. She even brought out complimentary mochi ice creams for the celebrations, which was so thoughtful! They were matcha and raspberry flavor I believe. Loved the matcha but both were good. My partner and I celebrated our engagement here in 2024, and we returned for our first anniversary because we love it so much! The staff was incredibly attentive and made us feel well cared for. Came back for a 2nd round and had an amazing experience! Thankfully was with someone who has been to O-Ku several times, so I was shown the right items to get. Ambiance was great - we sat upstairs near the bar which was a nice change from the downstairs main dining room. We tried the edamame - which were pretty standard. The O-toro spoons were amazing, the sake dreams nigiri was out of this world. Then we had a few rolls: the oceanside was solid, duval roll was pretty good, but my favorite was the So's Maki roll. Overall, a great meal. I paired the rolls with a Japanese whiskey that I let the server choose for me - will definitely have to go back for more. Looking forward to the next visit to try the sake dreams again, and other nigiri! read more

Saw this place on TikTok for as a good date night spot, and on the last night of my gf visit in Florida I decided to take her here and try this place out ! Oku has 2 level a downstairs level and a rooftop where it see Jax beach as well have heater during the cold breeze. We order drinks: My partner got a sugar and spice with tequila with a sugar rim which was good combo of spice and sweet not heavy on the tequila as well I order the forbidden fruit which was a good kick We started off with a bit of apps of seaweed salad nothing goes wrong with that for sure, order the wagyu temaki which was amazing as well the rolls were freshly made ! I also got the octopus nigiri which was amazing as well forgot to take a picture of it But before the rolls arrived our server brought us shrimp tempura which he said was a gift from him! I came here in the middle of the afternoon for a very early dinner so it wasn't super busy and the servers were very attentive and kind. I didn't catch our server's name but he had shoulder length curly hair and he was wonderful. The food was really good- the lobster in the lobster temaki was a bit overcooked, but it still tasted okay. The sushi/makimono was absolutely delicious though. Regarding desserts, I don't think I personally would get any of these desserts again, but it was worth a try at least once. read more

Oku has quickly become one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Jacksonville Beach, and it's always at the top of my list when I'm hosting visitors. From the incredible rooftop views to the consistently fresh and beautifully presented sushi, it feels like a little escape right here at Jax Beach. Our must-order dishes are the wagyu tartare toast and the otoro spoons. On a recent visit, I tried the signature nigiri flight and was blown away, each piece had its own unique topping and every bite was perfect. Beyond the food, the rooftop provides a beautiful view of the Jax boardwalk and is the perfect spot for sunset cocktails or a celebratory dinner. The drinks are consistently good, with seasonal specials that keep the menu feeling fresh. What really stands out, though, is the hospitality. We waited over 45 minutes for our food and then when it came out they realized they never gave us our appetizers. The sushi was really good and so were the drinks, but when you are paying $60+ for your meal and a drink, I expect the service to be a bit better. I love the vibe of this place and will probably be back for a drink, but maybe not a sit down meal. read more

What a surprise!!! Indeed it's a fine restaurant and I HIGHLY Recommend it !!! Today I called in to make a reservation, during my call as I'm a vegetarian I asked about the vegetarian options. Oh boy, the amount of options that they have is just amazing and they are very accommodating. So me and my wife went to try this place as I had never tried a Japanese sushi restaurant before. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and made to sit right away. For a Monday evening dinner the place was packed. Once we were sat down we were greeted by our server DUSTIN who was remarkable and he went above and beyond to make our dining experience amazing with his great recommendations. To start off we had our mocktails DD's Delight and Passion & Spice which was very unique and flavourful. For appetiser we had Brussels Sprouts which was mind blowing the sauce in which in tossed was just unbelievably delicious. My mouth is still watering. For our entrees I had the truffle wrap sushi which was great and I was so struck by the sauce that I had with Brussels sprout so I asked Dustin to get me more so that I could use that sauce on top of this sushi and trust me it tasted even more amazing. My wife had the tempura which was great as well. Finally, for desserts we had the Banana Cream cake and the Yuzu parfait both of them were just mind boggling. My wife who's 34weeks pregnant right now said the Banana cream cake is by far the best dessert she ever had in the US. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is so nicely done it's just a perfect restaurant right across the Jacksonville beach. My friend took me here for a birthday lunch and honestly? Best decision ever. O-Ku is absolutely GORGEOUS inside and the vibes are on point, the aesthetic is giving brunch with the girls but also cute for date night. One of the best sushi experiences we've had in JAX, hands down. It's a cute, trendy little beachside resto that we booked for a 9:30pm reservation and, oh man, we were so impressed! Our server, John, was absolutely amazing - and beyond knowledgeable about the menu and the restaurant in general. The server couldn't answer why, but apologized and took my drink off the tab of one item. My question is, where was the manager on duty. No one seemed to be in charge tonight. I typically don't love rolls with cream cheese but they used goat cheese instead and didn't put too much of it either which really was a great change, made the sushi taste very smooth! Our server was great and was able to give us a lot of suggestions on what to try. We ended up getting two of the chef's special plates, the crispy rice and the so's maki roll. All of the dishes were great and had very unique flavors. We loved the drinks too! We got a lychee martini which was a perfect balance of sweet and sour and the paper plane which was a twist on aperol spritz and was also delicious. We sat on the rooftop and it was very nice!
