The combination of Chinese and Japanese collab has been working well. You can have fried rice and sushi or sushi and fu wah steamed fish at the same time.

Anyone remember that old 70s TV show when Gomer Pile goes, "Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!" No one?!! Well neither did I until I went to Fuji Sushi! So I went because, to be honest, another place was closed. Haha. And then I remembered seeing high ratings for Fuji Sushi, and we were in the area, so we decided to give it a try. What was the big surprise was that we were there for...sushi, obviously. But when we walked in, the host (an older Asian man) asks, "Chinese or Japanese?" I seriously thought he was asking what ethnicity I was! I was so perplexed! Haha When ordering, we asked for recommendations. He named a few Chinese dishes. When we asked "what fresh fish do you have today?" He hesitated and didn't answer. No kidding... we asked 3x. Once he said, "Um, salmon and....." and then walked away. We only asked because the sushi bar had very skimpy pieces of fish in the glass fridge, so we were wondering if they had anything else in the kitchen? Apparently not. We decided to get a couple of the dishes he recommended and threw caution to the wind and ordered a cooked sushi roll (we didn't dare try raw fish since he avoided answering our question about fresh fish!) **What we ordered** Sautéed Stringbeans: 5 stars. Delicious. Authentic Chinese. Fresh, crispy, tasty! Great over rice (ordered separately). It came out first, and this hit the spot! Salt and Pepper Fish: 5 stars. Fried fish was crispy and peppers were spicy. The portion was huge! Love that it was over a bed of shaved cabbage for flavor and texture balance. Lion King Roll: 0 stars. *insert expletive here* I didn't recognize this as a roll or baked roll or any kind of sushi I've ever seen in my life. It looked like it was nuked and then thrown in the oven with some kind of cheesy cream sauce slipping off the top and died on the side, resembling cooked cerebral matter. It was incredibly unappetizing to see coagulated things on a sushi roll! The "salmon" was so overcooked that it was solid grey. HOWEVER, the Chinese food ROCKED! The moral of the review is to listen to the server/host and get what they recommend! If they don't mention the sushi, don't get the sushi! Also note: this is definitely classified as a Cheap Eats place. See photos. Furniture feels reminiscent to an 80s tiki hut that went under. Decor is mostly made up of paper goods visibly adhered with Scotch tape. The place wasn't warm or cozy either; it had a cold, eat-quickly-and-go vibe, probably because so many rooms were closed off with the lights out. Just know before you go: go for the Chinese food or get takeout!

Wow delicious and the service was great too! We decided to give Fushi Sushi a try even though we already have a few favorite Sushi spots, and we are so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were very generous, from the garlic edamame, to the miso soup, to the very fresh Sushi rolls. The Uni Sushi roll was an experience to eat and the Sashimi would melt in your mouth! Not to mention the service was super awesome. We truly appreciated the great service and will definitely be going back!!

The food here is absolutely incredible! I like that there is something for everyone. You can eat Chinese or Japanese food here. The sushi is very fresh and if you like sashimi this is definitely the place for you. Also some of the best hot and sour soup I've ever had! The servers are also extremely nice and attentive.

We had the Ko Ramen and tom yum ramen with shrimp. Both were so good! everyone was friendly and attentive. We will visit again next time we're in town.

They were chewy and undercooked!) There were a lot of customers there and, I believe only 3 workers: front of the restaurant woman who is your hostess, server, "bus boy", and cashier! Then there was the cook and someone in the back. The service was fine overall but Sapporo fell short on cleanliness and food handling safety. My kids and I were STARVING so we had to just look the other way throughout our dinner. You can tell they were working hard so we didn't want to make a fuss but omg... the woman brought our bowls with her THUMB in the bowls! I could see that it went into the soup one time so she moved her thumb (probably bec it was hot) and almost dropped the bowl on the table. Another time she held a piece of paper (I think it was the order) in her hand while also handling our food, so the paper went into 2 out of 4 of our bowls. She had to shake the piece of paper next to me to get the food to fall off. It was so shocking that it was almost funny. Almost. Sapporo is what I'd call a "hole in the wall" establishment like ones I had been to in big cities, and with those places, I think there is a bit of uncleanliness that you just have to expect as long as the food is good. Based on how packed Sapporo is, I think that's what others feel as well.

The noodles did get soggy over time. My friend's karaage was pretty good. The only thing we'd complain about is that the egg wasn't half raw as most ramen shops does it. It is very cooked which made it super dry. It seems alot of the yelp reviews were about the egg. I hope with many feedbacks about the egg, the chef could improve it make it half raw like most places. Yet when you pay at check-out, the tip amount defaults to 18% (yes, a default 18% tip at a fast-casual restaurant), with the alternatives being 20%, 25%, or custom. The lone employee who made eye contact with us was nice, but again--this is a fast-casual restaurant! The edamame was soft and unseasoned. The only condiment on the table was soy sauce (no low-sodium options available) and sushi rolls do not come with wasabi nor ginger. "Bento boxes" are essentially combo meals. When we sent the first edamame back because it was mushy, we received another bowl of flaccid beans back moments later. I suspect they are steamed in bulk, possibly in a bag in a microwave. My gripe with this place that finally pushed me to publish this review was the fried soft shell crab roll. PLEASE, for the love of cuisine, spare yourself from this roll. The crab is fried harder than a well-done Kentucky fried chicken leg, with a sweet sauce smeared over the top to distract from the flavorlessness of the contents. To add insult to injury, one piece had unfurled when this landed at our table. I have never, ever received a deconstructed sushi roll that was not immediately replaced. A minor aesthetic inconvenience for me; but a good illustration of the lack of concern for attention to detail here. I did not enjoy any part of this meal, which cost over $100. My biggest takeaway from this dinner is to never take Reddit reviews of Santa Cruz restaurants seriously again. Of course, nobody asked how my food was.

We actually left hungry, and honestly a little sad, because we have so many great memories of dining here over the years. The restaurant also seems busier than we have ever seen it, which is great for business, but I can't help wondering whether the quality and freshness of the food have suffered as a result. This was once a place we could count on for consistently fresh, high-quality meals. We truly hope this was just an off night and that the food returns to the standard that made this place so special for so many years. For longtime customers like us, this was such a disappointment.

I was happily surprised to see a katsu menu (even a plate of mixed katsu), ramen (even Cheesy Ramen), and sushi rolls. I came with friends because we were craving classic Korean BBQ dishes, like spicy hot tofu soup and Dol Sot Chicken Bibimbap (clay pot with sizzling rice at the bottom - yum!) and soju (Korean wine), but we ended up also getting Japanese dishes, like unagi donburi (fresh water eel). Plus, as a classic Korean BBQ place, Sesame served the little dishes of Korean goodies, like kimchi, and they were so refreshingly tasty and obviously homemade! You know it's a good place when you are thinking about what dishes you want to order the next time you come, whom you want to invite, and where the takeout menu is! Service was okay: we were seated quickly and food arrived at a good pace. We had to ask for a few things, like remind them of our drinks, and wasn't checked on, but our server was easy to find and we had no complaints because we were too busy devouring our food and toasting with our pomegranate soju. Other things to note for first time customers: - Parking can be a little tricky because the lot in front of the restaurant is limited to about 5 cars only! Try across the street! Also beware that street parking meters are strictly enforced. - Drinks are delicious. Get them. - The place is spacious, so it's food for large groups. - Ambiance is more of a family restaurant (nothing fancy). The most important takeaways are: the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable!
