First time dinning here, we came on recommendation from friends, and this restaurant definitely lived up to its hype!! The sushi was so fresh, the fish was such good quality and ratio of fish to rice in the rolls was excellent. I recommend everything we ordered except, I'd order the sauces on the side as the rolls themselves would be 10x better without them, in my opinion (sauces were good this is just a personal preference!) The service was decent, they were really busy so it took a little longer to get refills and ask for extras but that's understandable. We sat on the patio/outdoor sitting area. It is currently 2:22 and I'm back at home after trying to eat at this location that closes at 2:30 pm but does not allow you to sit at 2:10 and after deciding to order take out won't let you order for take out after 2:15 pm, " last call just happened" he said. Wow! Talk about bad customer service. We have been going to this location and Capitola location for years and cannot quite believe how dismissive they were. Probably won't be returning here again. 7:20 pm My family has stopped eating at this establishment because of poor service but I thought I would give it another try. I called to order and was asked to be put on hold for a "sec". I could hear the wait people talking the entire time. After 15 minutes on hold I gave up and ordered online. I was driving so that's why I was calling to order. When I went to pick up my order it was not busy, there were four tables and there were three girls standing around chatting. I asked for the name and phone number of the owner. The waitperson in the back and talked to her manager and said they would take my number and call me back. I'm not holding my breath. I've had this experience when trying to order my phone with this location. They just never pick up the phone. It's common practice here. It's very rude. A friend recommended this spot to me. I have to say I was a little concerned when I went into the bathroom before ordering. If I ran a restaurant, I would make sure the bathroom was clean because it does reflect on the overall cleanliness of the establishment. But, moving on everything was great! First of all they have a super staff! The woman who took my order was very attentive, helpful, and she made me feel welcome there. I had dinner there last night. Not my first time eating at the restaurant, always enjoyed the meals. My entree was tempura shrimp. I was served a large plate heaped with heavily battered shrimp. Everything tasted okay, but later that night I experienced some very unpleasant after-effects. Not sure if the oil used to fry the shrimp was too old or what. This place is solid! I almost didn't come after reading some of the reviews, but Sushi Garden is a good reminder that we have to check out places for ourselves. The sashimi in my dinner combo was fresh and buttery! The salmon teriyaki had 2 large pieces. The salad is usually an after-thought at restaurants when it comes to bento boxes, but Sushi Garden gave a hefty portion, which my veggie-loving tummy appreciated! My child enjoyed every bite of her crunchy CA roll. We were greeted and seated immediately. The server took our order right away and checked on us a couple times. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated. I liked the long table in the middle that sat a few single patrons. The only downside was we were sat next to a cart of takeout items, so there were always customers standing inches from my child to pilfer through the takeout goodies (utensils, candy, chopstick helper tools, etc). I went to Sushi Garden with a friend last weekend. I ordered their Eternal Sunshine Roll and it was pretty good. It comes with salmon and slices of lemon in the top. I super recommend it. They have a beautiful patio but unfortunately it was cloudy that day, and I was feeling cold. They have heaters in the patio, but I'm not used to cold weather, so I wasn't able to enjoy it. Their service was okay. I think it could be better. I hope we'll have more sunny days soon and I'll go back to try more of their menu and enjoy their beautiful patio. read more

They have lunch and dinner two and three item plates. Grab a few and mix up the items and a great family dinner where everyone gets something they like and plenty of food. We usually get the meals to go. They are usually prompt and have items ready. We did have one long wait and person at the front was not at all attentive, unsure what caused that one but it was mostly a one off as this is not the norm. The dining room can get crowded as it is compact. This is part of what leads us to do take out. It seems like Aptos and Capitola are both tight on seating. I do enjoy their version of jalapeño poppers, tempura battered with cream cheese. The seafood seems fresh, they have a good variety of rolls if you don't get the combos. I came in for lunch recently and it was very mellow. They did tell me I would have to order in the next few minutes if I chose to dine there as they were ending their lunch shift soon. My server was attentive and very nice. I had a bento box with salmon and California roll. They give you a lot of food! It's was good but the salad dressing was a little runny and not as flavorful as other miso style dressings I've had. I also had edamame which was just fine. I asked for bubbly water and she brought it straight from the fountain. Sodas are a little pricey but I had several refills. The bento was an excellent value. Used to love Sushi Garden in Watsonville but the service had gone way down. Japanese cuisine sounded good for dinner, so we choose to order take-away as a quick way to satisfy our hunger. Using Yelp to view their menu, we placed our order and were told it would be ready within an half-hour. Perfect! We decided sushi rolls would be the easiest to transport without compromising food quality. We ordered steamed gyoza and shumai for our appetizers, and their specialty rolls Bryant's Birdie & Magic Dragon. In thirty minutes, as quoted, we had our order in-hand. Bryant's Birdie is tuna, salmon, masago, mango, avocado & cucumber. While the roll was very colorful, it wasn't as filled with ingredients as their stock photo showed (stock photos usually are nicer than the actual product). The quantity of the micron sliver of mango and cucumber was almost nonexistent. However, there was a descent portion of excellent quality tuna and salmon. All in all, the roll was enjoyable. Their Magic Dragon roll consists of shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber, topped with eel, avocado, masago, sweet sauce and spicy mayo wrapped in seaweed. It had a nice spicy kick to it. This roll was absolutely delicious and satisfying. We would definitely return here to try their other fare next time we are in the area. I just wanted to ask a question for the dinner and if I needed reservations or if I could make reservations! While waiting outside we were offered a complimentary round of hot sake to warm us up! We ordered quite a few rolls as well as baked mussels, ama ebi, sashimi, and tempura. Came in with my boyfriend last night around 7:15. Wait for a table wasn't bad at all. We were sat at a table in a corner. Service started out great, but after we ordered it kind of fizzled. After waiting for our entrees the server came just minutes before my food came out and told us that they didn't have anymore of the seafood ramen my boyfriend ordered. A little annoyed but it wasn't that big of a deal. He picked something else. When his food came I went to ask if she could clear the empty plates on the table, but she literally put the plate down and walked away without saying anything and then we never saw her again. We watched all the other tables around us being helped and we were completely ignored for about an hour. We had to get up and ask for a box and the check. I've been in the restaurant business for nearly 20 years and I've always taught my staff to let your tables know if you're leaving/going on break and have someone else come and introduce themselves. Management needs to step it up and train their staff properly. It said on our check our servers name was Josephine. I don't know if that was her name she never told us, but it was a short younger girl with black hair. Terrible service. Decent food. Probably won't be back or recommend. read more

Whatever you do don't get a Bento Box with the Sushi option. I went a few weeks ago and got Tempura Combo and Sushi. Luckily, I planned out how I was eating it, Sushi last. Shrimp, Salmon, and Tuna- that exact order! I'm so glad I did because the tuna was inedible, I was unable to chew it. I almost threw it up because it was so tough. I tried to cover it with more wasabi and soy but there was no way I could do it. I've never had this much of a problem. I usually get rolls but I was by myself and opted for something different. Everyone is always so nice but I got it to-go so there was nothing that I could do. I've never had an issue with anything before so hopefully this was just a one time issue.
