    Lunch bento

Lunch and dinner bentos are really great especially for the price, perfect amount of food. Chirashi and specialty rolls were also good, very fresh and decent portioning. Things didn't take too long, only thing would be that one person's order came out quite a bit earlier than the rest which made it awkward for eating lunch together.

Fresh tasty Philly roll, playboy roll and three amigos roll.

Hey y'all this little sushi place is basic on decor but has super comfy booths, friendly quick attentive service and always delivers fresh great tasting sushi rolls, tempura and cold Japanese beer on draft. This is our local favorite sushi place last few years. We've been fans of other sushi restaurants in past but this place always delivers food n drinks to our table in a few mins even when they are slammed super busy. Best part we usually only have a 5 min wait for a booth or table at peak dinner times so very happy to recommend them if your in Scott's valley and need good sushi check 'em out your dig it! Team Z approved!

I was pretty impressed with this unassuming sushi place! Tucked away in Scotts Valley, this was worth the drive from Santa Cruz. The sashimi quality in particularly was great! My boyfriend got the Chicken Teriyaki, which was negligible in taste. Very saucy and the chicken was pretty dry. However, the Protein Roll was tasty! A very squishy textured roll, but it's packed with fresh avocado and various fish. The Yellowtail Belly, Salmon, and Tuna sashimi were all excellent! Very thick cuts and clearly fresh. 6 pieces for around $20 is worth it. I'd come back for this! What a treat. Ambiance is casual and they had basketball playing on a few TV's :)

This review is based off of my To Go order. Everything tasted delicious even though we didn't eat it right away. We ordered an udon as well and the soup was still very hot when we ate it. If our take out was a great experience (food wise), I'm sure our dining experience would be great as well!

This place has decent size of space, clean, & has plenty of sun going throw which is a plus for me. Service great ladies pretty fast taking orders. Now food very disappointing Beef teriyaki no salt or flavor the only taste was teriyaki sauce as for chicken teriyaki was good. Spicy Edamame flavorless. Lobster popcorn roll didn't care for it. Honestly I had lots of expectation for the roll yet failed. The mix tempura were ok had some crunch to them. Biggest disappointment charge $1 for small size sriracha sauce.

With most restaurants skimping on portions these days, Otoro stands out with food that is both generous in portion and flavor! Rolls were both fresh and delicious. Chicken teriyaki was juicy and accompany miso soup was some of the best I have ever tasted! Plenty of indoor seating with friendly service.

Hidden gem in Scotts Valley! Tucked away in a plaza full of fast food, this spot totally surprised me. The sushi here is so good -- the fish was super fresh, rich, and fatty in the best way. Every roll we tried had great flavor and balance. Definitely an unassuming little place that delivers way beyond expectations. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Decent sushi for this part of Santa Cruz, but a little less good than expected given the high reviews. Ambiance was nice and service was superb though, but some of the sashimi was not as fresh as I had wanted. Their miso soup stood out - quite above average for the Bay.

Food: Tempura was fried to perfection. Not too crispy or soft. Sashimi medley with a side of fresh wasabi. Surf & turf is good, wished I asked for spicy mayo. Always next time. Service: Customer service was excellent and attentive. Ambiance: Chill, tv soccer game was on. Thank you chef!

Otoro Sushi's restaurant design has an expansive open dining area with an airy, inviting interior. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Their offerings are generally mainstream sushi/rolls, noodles & tempura. The sushi rolls we ordered were of high quality and were attractively plated. Our meal arrived within a very short time after ordering, even though it was during the busy lunch hour. One suggestion would be to not use such a thick batter on the Lobster Tempura and Chicken Karaage. The batter should be thin, allowing for a light, airy, and crispy texture. Overall, Otoro Sushi is quite inviting with its appealing atmosphere, excellent service, and quality offerings.

It was my first time here at Otoro Sushi. When we arrived, it was pretty busy but it didn't take us too long to get seated. For our appetizer, we ordered the Lady Killer. We ordered 2 rolls: Oishi Roll and Firecracker Roll and 8pc Nigiri. Everything was so good and the service was great!

What a deal! Generous, delicious portions. We were a party of 18 and we're seated and served super quickly. They even offered to split up the checks!

There were only several tables inside, so the place is cozy and quite enough. The edamame was salted throughout, flavorful but not the most healthy. We ordered three rolls: volcano was our favorite, it has a great mixture of flavors. I used to be a sashimi person, but I enjoyed the baked rolls due to the flavor. Firecracker was tasty too. Mango crunch was a letdown, not because of the mango but the tempura in the middle. The tempura had the wrong type of dough and tasted old and soggy. I probably won't order any of their tempura dishes again if I ever revisit. Overall I still enjoyed the food and thought it's good value.

Yam maki Rainbow roll Clare's st roll Samurai roll California roll Hamachi maki The rice was flavorful and fresh, the fish and veggies were also clearly fresh, and the seasonings and garnishes were just right. 12 pc sushi combo - the fish was vibrant, buttery in texture, and the slices were generous. All of this was just over $100! Great quality food for a really reasonable price. Our friends who live in Scotts Valley now have a new favorite sushi spot. Only downside is that it's challenging to find. 11Camp Evers is misleading in Maps. 11 Scotts Valley Drive got us to this great find, tucked up in behind Auntie Mame's, a local breakfast spot on the corner of Mt. Hermon and Scotts Valley Drive. It's worth finding. Trust us.

We were surprised to see both Japanese and Chinese cuisine menus. When our server asked us which menus we wanted to order from, we picked both - just because we wanted to see what kind of food they have. We ordered: 3 Ko Ramen Pork Tonkatsu Five Cracker Roll Agedashi Tofu Garlic Edamame Fresh Salmon Nigiri We are very surprised by how big the portions are. We ordered a lot of food thinking about the other Japanese restaurants we have been to - they have pretty small portions. Not here! The portions are huge! I brought both my boys in their early 20s with me. These two can eat more than I have ever seen anyone eat, and we still couldn't finish everything. We had a lot of leftovers. All the food was wonderful. The Ko ramen is amazing!!! All our food was so fresh and tasted really good. The outside of the building is deceptively small-looking. The place has a lot of seating inside and has a party room as well. Despite the number of diners around us, it didn't sound loud at all, in fact we were able to speak in a very normal indoor volume and we could hear each other perfectly. We found ample parking in the back of the building. No parking fees/meters. Next time we will try the Chinese food too. For now, the Japanese food i would definitely recommend. Will update review after we try the Chinese food. Their prices are really good! They also have a discounted menu of 4 different offerings for students M-F I believe 12pm to 2pm. Those prices are amazing!

I honestly haven't stopped thinking about it. The chow mein was also piping hot and extremely fragrant of garlic as the plate was set in front of me. I haven't stopped thinking of that succulent steam facial, either. I also had a root beer. Life should always be perfect tempura and your favorite soda. The service was great as well. They replied with a genuine "enjoy" to each of my "thank-you's", and also spoke very kindly and gave great service to the considerably under-spoken guy at the booth next to mine. Con: The place is old as dirt and needs to be gutted. I don't think it was 'sticky' tablecloth dirty, but I was pleasantly surprised that the bathroom was very clean and tidied. The smell when I entered the restaurant quickly let me know that something was wrong with the sewer lines, or something. Like, I almost left before anyone saw me stroll into the empty place, ok? There was a gal who was walking in to scope the place out for she and her friends as I was leaving. She didn't stay. I was waiting for an Uber as she hightailed it back to her car declaring "Well, I guess I haven't been there in a while..." into her phone. Overall, I'm glad I stayed to give an old place a new try for the first time in... 15 years? Not surprised that all of the orders were being picked up by DoorDash, etc, but also not surprised at how many orders were being pickup up, one after another. I need tempura and rooty beer this week. Not sure if I'd ever be brave enough to give their sushi menu a try, though.

The lone employee who made eye contact with us was nice, but again--this is a fast-casual restaurant! The edamame was soft and unseasoned. The only condiment on the table was soy sauce (no low-sodium options available) and sushi rolls do not come with wasabi nor ginger. "Bento boxes" are essentially combo meals. When we sent the first edamame back because it was mushy, we received another bowl of flaccid beans back moments later. I suspect they are steamed in bulk, possibly in a bag in a microwave. My gripe with this place that finally pushed me to publish this review was the fried soft shell crab roll. PLEASE, for the love of cuisine, spare yourself from this roll. The crab is fried harder than a well-done Kentucky fried chicken leg, with a sweet sauce smeared over the top to distract from the flavorlessness of the contents. To add insult to injury, one piece had unfurled when this landed at our table. I have never, ever received a deconstructed sushi roll that was not immediately replaced. A minor aesthetic inconvenience for me; but a good illustration of the lack of concern for attention to detail here. I did not enjoy any part of this meal, which cost over $100.
