My first time trying this place. I was out running errands so I placed an order to go. Picked it up and decided to eat at my next stop so it stayed fresh. Salmon on the roll is thin and wilted. Doesn't look edible. Wasabi is dark green and hard. Can't even blend it in with my soy sauce. Needless to say I will not be eating any of this. Waited until I got home to review it better. I thought the sushi was pretty good. Will definitely be back to try again. Florida and Odessa rolls are something we'd order again. We also tried the Midland and Torched Crawfish rolls... they weren't bad but probably would try different rolls in place of those next time. Wasn't a fan of the fried rice or edamame... Both were a bit over cooked and over seasoned. Also, wasn't a fan of the giant boat that they brought the sushi out on.... it took up the whole table and I question cleanliness. Mixed feelings about this place. My husband and I tried it tonight and at at the bar. The place seemed clean enough but the decor was weird and it was awkwardly quiet. Our steamed dumplings were fairly good. We also had the sushi and it was gooped with the spicy mayo, and the pieces that didn't have much was flavorless and boring. I ordered the the sushi tower and it was dripping with sauce which killed the whole thing, for $11 I would expect flavor aside from the sauce. Then there's was the chicken tempinaki (sp check) and the chicken was extremely tough and the chicken clearly not cleaned up (cut off the fat and hard stuff chicken breast often has) but the rice was really good and the veggies were alright. Now on to the service. There were three table tops seated and one other person at the bar with us. We had to ask multiple times for a beer which was less than 10ft from our spot and when I asked for diet dp I was told they had it but clearly did not and we asked if they had beer on tap and they didn't but were told yes. Big language barrier. We were fine with that but all the other things added up to a three star. For only 5 people in the place on a Saturday it wouldn't have been hard to please who was there. Not to mention how long it took to get a sushi roll. Can't image what it could be like on a busy night. $80 later... We regret going for our rare date night. And won't be back. read more

Disclaimer: I don't hand out 5 star reviews like they are going out of style. Stepped into this place at lunch time (11:30) and it was a ghost town, there was one couple upon entering. Don't get me wrong, I don't want this place overflowing but it's sometimes, to me, a testament of the quality of restaurant. I'm "big" on smells and wasn't greeted with a very appealing smell when entering... kind of a old musty smell. Someone mentioned that their decor is weird and I would agree. Not sure what they are going for. Chairs at the sushi bar are bright yellow. Booths are mustard colored with yellow table clothes and the tables have blue table clothes. Multicolor lights around the sushi bar. Not a big deal, just note worthy. There is what appears to be a large Spanish galleon model that you are greeted by when you enter... maybe this is the old musty smell? Asked if they had cold green tea, they don't but they have hot green tea. Well, it's nearly 100 outside so I'll pass on that. The waiter either just woke up or has clearly given up on life. He just didn't seem to care to be working there whatsoever. Me - "What's in your samosa?" Apathetic waiter - "We don't have those anymore." Me - (waits for possible other options offered... nothing) "Alright, I'll stick with #9 lunch option." Guy walks away. Cool. The soup they bring was very good but was lukewarm at best. On the table is all the napkins, chopsticks, and straws. Not a bad thing inherently but the straws don't have covers on them. It's like that one person who reaches in a chip bag and handles several chips before pulling one out. Now, it's straws. Hopefully I don't sneeze on them. Was brought my dish, vegetarian lunch dish. Our loving waiter dropped it off and didn't say anything. Fair enough, I didn't need anything else. False. I had to get up to ask for some sweet and sour sauce. "We don't have that," says our waiter friend. Sweet chili sauce it is. I didn't have high expectations of the vegetable dish and wasn't disappointed. Veggie rolls were okay, loosely rolled but fresh. A couple fried items - I believe zucchini, mushroom, carrot and onion. Meh, it's friend veggies. Then some other veggies smothered in soy sauce - same as friend plus green pepper, onions, and broccoli. The veggies here seem quite tired like the waiter. For $12, it's not a ton of food. Aka Texas portion size. I haven't been asked how the food is or if I need anything. Oh, the music is alllll over the place. Country, then 80s love ballad, then some mid nineties poppy stuff. No idea. I was just asked finally as he slowly walked past the table. Other note - got a splinter from the chopsticks. It's the break apart kind, probably my fault. I'll be okay. By the time I was leaving at around 12:15, 6 more people had come in. Overall, it's okay. Not sure if it helps at all but I hope you like the review. I probably won't be back. Side note - for a place to get a 5 Star they have to rock my face off pretty good. Someone else's 5 Star may be my 4 Star (or lower). I don't just throw up a 5 Star Willy nilly, it's like the participation award for the kid finishing last in the race or the stand ovation for literally anything. I love the new restaurants that are coming to the permian! Trying on a whim I am very pleased. My daughter had the dumplings (pot stickers deep fried) and the 8 yr old loved them. My wife and I split the Midland roll and Pirate roll and they are so fresh. Very tasty and more food than we were prepared for. Kudos to the owner, he had out done himself. My favorite sushi restaurant to go to while I'm in Midland visiting family. I'm from the coast of California, so finding a great sushi place in West Texas was quite a surprise. We ordered the firecracker roll, spicy tuna roll, and Philadelphia salmon roll. All were delicious. Service was tops. My 5-year-old grandson even loved his salmon sushi roll while eating an extra serving of sticky rice. We also enjoyed a bottle of Shirayuki Nama Fresh Sake. Look for happy hour from 4-6:00 pm for half off appetizers, $2 domestic beer, $3 per glass of house wine, and $3 sake bomb. Try something different than your usual steakhouse in Midland. Way better then Volcano sushi. I've had sushi from all kinds of different places and even had it when I lived in Japan. The chef here knows what he is doing and is very good at the art of sushi. Unlike volcano, these guys know how the cut the fish to the proper size and thickness. They also had a very nice menu when it came to cooked items as well. The food is delicious. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. I love that they let me switch avocado for something else in my roll because I hate avocado. So again the staff is lovely. The only thing lacking is the atmosphere. It looks and smells a bit ran down, bad decor choices, Eminem on the sound system far too loud made me feel it should have a lot more of a cool club style and it doesn't, it is really dated and plain inside. The plates and bowls are very beat up and chipped, I had to use a spoon for my miso soup because the edge of my bowl was so cracked. We were seated promptly and our service was good throughout our meal but I can't say the server was friendly, but not rude. Our food was delicious though! I had the seafood Teppanyaki and it had scallops, shrimp, and lobster with veggies and steamed rice. I would have preferred less sauce on it but otherwise it was great. My husband had the Japanese fried rice with beef and enjoyed it and shared rice with my youngest who doesn't eat much. My 7yr old had the kids' chicken fried noodles and it was a large portion but she finished it. My kids are pretty picky and they ate all their food, so we will definitely return! read more

I love how their menu has pictures of how their sushis actually look like and they are very accurate. The variety they have here is a lot better than the newer, more expensive Volcano Sushi right down the loop. This place needs a little bit of updating but it is still good for big crowds and family dinners. There is also rarely any wait during lunch time and their service is pretty fast. The music wasn't censored so hearing f bombs throughout the meal was sorta awkward. The food was just "meh" and not really good. The prices were a little high but pretty reasonable. As for the staff - the dude was working hard at waiting the tables and was extremely attentive to us and the other 3 tables there. I even saw him cleaning and wailing tables as soon as people left (which was reassuring). Overall, wouldn't go back because I've had much much better sushi but it's decent I guess. read more

He did say that there were quite a few big tv's so that's a plus in his book. I got the florida roll and it was good. nothing amazing but satisfying. I put it back in the fridge for a bit because I like my sushi cold. It was 100 degrees outside so it might have just gotten warm in transit. my husband isn't a raw fish eater so he got a "teriyaki" chicken dish. I had some and it tasted very fresh.
