Okay, so I will start by saying I had yet to explore Osaka due to the low reviews but I came for lunch at the recommendation of my friend. We were immediately greeted and decided on a hibachi table. I ordered vegetable egg rolls and filet mignon with fried rice. Much to my delight, our cook was on point. The meat was cooked medium rare to my linking with tons of delicious rice and veggies. Came to the wrong location. I was supposed to meet my buddy at their Odessa spot (long story). After I had entered, the staff was very friendly and sat me down quickly. It was 8:25pm, and they closed at 9pm. Even though they were closing soon, I didn't feel rushed to order or to eat. Shawn kept checking on me and did his work with efficiency. The space is roomy with lots of tables for small and large groups. Very playful atmosphere, especially if you eat at the hibachi tables. I started with a couple of cocktails and a plate of their spicy calamari...very tasty! Main course was the Sukiyaki steak plate, cooked medium. It was very tender and full of deliciousness. Some of the worst Chinese (Yeah I know it's a Japanese themed restaurant but it's Chinese food, Lo mein? cough cough.....) food I've ever had. Been here multiple times but brought by people who really haven't tried great Asian food. It's oily, bland, and overpriced. I don't see the hype in this place besides a strategic location. Crazy overpriced and unimpressive basic American style hibachi/sushi restaurant. You would think for the cost you'd be getting something at least average, but you'd be wrong. I had a 3 protein hibachi plate, $40 for the worst me of this type I have ever had. Food had been cooked on way too low a heat and had no browning/char whatsoever. I didn't bother with the sushi because everything was wildly over priced. Well decided to try this place out since it was close the the Hilton Garden Inn, I walked over and was greeted fairly promptly. I was seated and ordered a beer, the menu had lots of great choices and I had the crab puffs appetizer and order the Hibachi Tuna steak done with a pepper seasoning, it came with a choice of salad and Japanese Miso soup, I got the cucumber salad with ginger dressing which was sweet and refreshing, the crab puffs were great and taste good even without the dipping sauce. The tuna steak was cooked perfect and the vegetables and noodles complimented it well, the service and food were both excellent and glad I went early as it started getting busy by the time I left, I had the fried rolled cheesecake for dessert. I am not usually one to go to a place with such low rating but after looking it people loved it or hated it. It was the easiest place for me to eat this evening so why not see what side I am on. Well I am for sure on the LOVE it side!!! The couple that was at the table with me said this is one of the most popular places in Midland. I do not know the last time I saw so many people in a Japanese Steakhouse. The food was so good, the shrimp was probably the best I have ever had. Our chef was pretty good, you could tell he was still learning but he still did many tricks. It was a fun experience with really good food. Absolutely amazing food and service!!! We sat at the grill and our chef, Hector, was so accommodating! My husband has a food allergy to mushrooms and I am allergic to all fish and seafood (tragic I know)!!! Nice clean dining room but both times I went the service was way less that you would expect from an expensive sushi restaurant. The second time I flew my wife here so she could see the desert before I went back home and the services that night was lacking when my wife tells me not to give her a tip it's bad. The atmosphere was, well, interesting. It was very dark inside. There is a big wooden ship with a moat (?) We were seated next to said moat and near the waterfall. I actually couldn't believe how LOUD the waterfall was. Like, almost, unbearably loud. Like, I almost asked the waitress if we could move elsewhere because I could barely hear the conversation at my own table. For food, like I said, I'm not a big Japanese food fan. I don't do sushi or seafood... wasn't really feeling much on the menu. I ended up ordering steamed dumplings (appetizer) as my entree. I was sure to ask the server was the filling was first and was glad it was pork. They were actually quite good. My husband and one other in our party got a chicken and steak dish which they enjoyed and lastly, another in our party got the Pu Pu platter which he shared with the table. I tried an egg roll from the it and it was good too. A broth soup was brought out prior to our entrees which was pretty good. Server was nice. Food came out quick. Theft! When I eat out I always round up my tip to the nearest dollar to ensure when I compare later in the month for my expenses. So I immediately noticed when I saw $59.45 on my statement, something was wrong. So I looked over my receipt further. I notice they charge 3% AFTER taxes for using a credit card. No one informed me of this but what's $1.44? I left an 18% tip and then rounded up to $58 in total. Once it cleared my credit card I was charged an additional $1.45. On top of it all...I had the sirloin steak and chicken with fried rice. All of this was for one person. No appetizers or desserts. That's a ridiculous price for sub par quality food. This isn't a place I'd return to for just the quality and prices. But once you've lost my trust an attempt to steal from me, you lose my business for good. The hibachi "show" lacked. Same ole rice and onion thing, nothing else no interaction at all. The food was Atrocious, fried rice was undercooked(crispy), the filet was incredibly chewy and under seasoned, veggies were still crunchy and the noodles were mushy with no flavor. Where should I start. WORST SERVICE I have experienced in Midland! I tried to place an order over the phone for take out but it is IMPOSSIBLE! The person that answered the phone didn't know what was in the menu and they were unwilling to go check it out, didn't know the ingredients of a roll, left us talking on the phone by ourselves to talk with somebody else (which we could hear) and than hang up on me. This happened twice in a row. I went in person and talked with the manager about this situation but all she did was making excuses for the front desk. I was in town for work and was happy to find this place that was a satisfier for all of my party. The food was good, our chef was VERY VERY entertaining. I got the filet + scallops meal and it was delicious. My friends were very full after eating 2/3 of their meal. For some reason I inhaled my meal and I was ok. LOL I guess I was that hungry. My one star taken away was for the speed of service. Service was pretty slow. It was Fri night and the place was PACKED. But as we looked around, we noticed alot of ppl had to wait a while for service or for their food to start. If I wasn't there with someone I was catching up with and talking so much, I would have noticed the slowness a little more. I was too busy talking to one of my friends to even notice, but the other friend that wasn't talking that much is the one that made the comment to me about how slow the service was. Bring your glasses, the menu is printed in micro print. Don't think you're going to a Japanese restaurant, because it is far from it. Shashmi menu items are limited and very over-priced; but that is all the menu items; severely over-priced for what you get. Ordered 2 rolls and the fish on top was miniscule and mixed with a lot of avacado slices to hide the fact you're not getting much fish. Sushi chefs are nice, but are not good at rolling. Service was extremely slow for 5pm. I ordered a martini double and got a regular sized martini for the price of almost $19. I don't know how this place is rated so high. For the price you can do better at a supermarket sushi counter. read more
