For example: He not only taped around window and door frames, but would also cover any of the neighbors' cars with plastic, so that they would not get any accidental paint. When I moved out, I received an itemized list of "damages" and "cleaning fees" that was pure fiction, full of charges for normal wear and tear, and which were wildly inflated prices for basic services and fees for issues that existed before I moved in. They invent problems and assign absurd price tags until the total conveniently swallows most of your deposit. What makes it a true scam is that they know you're leaving. Most tenants are moving to another city and are too far away and too worn out to fight back, and the company counts on exactly that. If you do try to dispute the charges, SF's rent board offers little real help -- and the company knows it and exploits it. Stay far away!! Whatever "deal" you think you're getting on the rent will be wiped out, and then some, when they help themselves to your large security deposit on the way out. This isn't a one-off bad experience but a pattern, and I'm posting this so the next person doesn't get caught the way I did.

After painstakingly interviewing a dozen contractors over several months, Mr. Ayala's extensive construction experience, kind and respectful demeanor, relatively short time-line to complete the job (a few days!!! - instead of at least 2 weeks like the others) and highly competitive cost estimate won my contract! When, as virtually in all construction projects, unanticipated events popped up, Mr. Ayala and his sons managed them with assuring style and in stride. Each of them at different times during the project reiterated that they're working to make their customer happy. Being somewhat of a neat-freak, I very much appreciated how at the end of every day, they cleaned up extensively after themselves. In fact, Mr. Ayala could often be seen picking up stray debris that was barely visible to me after his sons vacuumed.
