It is a river town and is a charming place to stay if you want to visit the area attractions in Lancaster, Lititz, or York. The Ascot House was built in 1800 and has been lovingly renovated by Wendy. Wendy is the best b&b host I have ever encountered and I love her British accent and stories. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and were shown to our room (the Essex). The Essex room is upstairs and the entrance is outside, but you have your own private porch which is great. It is also convenient if you have dogs as we did, because you can walk them or go into the backyard without going through the main house. Wendy is truly the most pet friendly b&b I have ever been to as well, and made sure the dogs had a water bowl on the porch soon after we arrived. She will also pet sit for you if need be for a reasonable rate. We promptly joined another couple on the deck for wine and cheese and had a great time talking to them and Wendy. There are two taverns in town that are in close walking distance, McLeary's and Shanks Tavern. Both have live music, but McLearys is larger and open on Saturday unlike Shanks. We had a great time exploring the town of Lititz on the Saturday and toured the PA Wolf Sanctuary which I highly recommend. Wendy is glad to provide any recommendations you need and we enjoyed the restaurant she recommended in Lititz. Wilbur's Chocolate Company from 1884 is also located in Lititz. The dining room is very formal and decorated in a beautiful manner. We were treated to many courses at breakfast - one morning we had a blueberry cake, fruit, and eggs and bacon, and the next morning we had yogurt and fruit, apple turnover, and waffles with true clotted cream. You can also get your own pot of tea which is a nice touch. You should not need lunch after eating breakfast here. The Lancaster area is very quiet on Sunday so you might have to venture farther for attractions that are open. Our favorite activities were just walking around the town of Marietta and looking at the beautiful 19th century homes, especially along the railroad tracks. They have a Candlelight Tour of some of the old homes every first Sunday in December and we have already booked to go back to the Ascot House because it was truly that special. The Susquehanna is a beautiful river and is located just behind the railroad tracks. Yes, you can hear the trains go by in the middle of the night so I would recommend ear plugs or taking some Benadryl. I wouldn't let that deter you from visiting this b&b which is located in one of the cutest small towns you can think of. There are also lots of wineries in the area that I want to try next time we return to the area. Make sure you check out the Chickie's Rock hike which is very easy and has a great view of the Susquehanna.

We loved hanging out with them in the kitchen, eating breakfast made to order, and having great conversation! We felt like we were visiting our favorite relatives)))) Even though we gave it 5 stars, I must mention couple of cons. 1. The carpet in the bathroom. I don't like carpets anywhere, let alone in the bathroom. For various reasons it's unsanitary, allot easier to clean tile and hardwood floor, than carpet. 2. The train makes horrible noise, it honks for a long time in the middle of the night which is really disturbing. However, with windows closed you can't hear a thing. 3. Mattresses would need to be updated to something firmer and more modern and orthopedic. But I am sure,in time all will be improved and updated. Our hosts Anna and Tim made us feel right at home. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee options hit the spot. Our romantic room was super comfortable and quiet. We picked this area to visit because I wanted to mountain bike the single track trails at Swatara State Park. Swatara did not disappoint. We stayed only 1 day but I wish we would have stayed longer. We discovered a local farmers market in the style of Reading Terminal in Philly but on a smaller scale with less crowds. You can go wine tasting at the Farmers Market! I want to come back so I can sip wine, sample raspberry dark chocolate truffles, and try out some of the fresh produce like oyster mushrooms and boysenberry jam. There were also tons of food vendors and a lady selling alpaca shawls that were softer than a kitten. We also sampled local beers at Snitz Creek brewery (try the lemon meringue blond) and listened to a local artist sing and play guitar. He was really good and we had a great time. Everyone in the area was so friendly and we'd love to come back here. If we do, we will definitely stay at the Red Umbrella. I wish I had taken some pictures. Pictures don't even do this place justice, though. It's more beautiful in person. Red Umbrella is definitely one of our favorite B&Bs ever.

There were a couple of very dedicated chefs in the party and the kitchen was great for making large meals and could accomodate several cooks at once. We had 8 people in our group and had sleeping room to spare! Diane was very attentive to our needs: we found a blender was not working while making drinks and she provided a replacement within minutes; we also finished off a propane tank while grilling and were able to quickly get a replacement (before the steaks could even get cold). Our only regret was that heavy rains prevented us from really being able to take advantage of the gorgeous patio. We are already making plans to return as a group next year. Highly recommended!

They're even more spacious than they seem in the photos. The place is absolutely gorgeous. I guess it's old Victorian decor. They have flat screens in all the rooms and just huge comfy beds. Awesome fluffy pillows and everything you could want in a place. It's worth the extra couple of dollars to not have to stay at the travel dump. It's within walking distance of a few bars and restaurants, Lebanon Valley College, a small movie theater and the Annville library (a favorite place for me as a kid). It's a few miles outside of Hershey and I'd highly recommend it as a place to stay if you're looking to come into the area for whatever reason. Amber, the innkeeper was fabulous. She took great care of us and anticipated our needs. She set out umbrellas for us to use when the weather seemed rainy and answered all of our questions. Great conversation, lovely garden in the back with a koi pond. The breakfast was solid. I took some pictures, check em out. There was also a baked grapefruit, something I never had but was really impressed with. And don't sleep on the banana nut muffin. It looks like it's out of a boxed recipe but that was easily one of the top 5 muffins I've had my whole life. My wife loved the place so much that I can guarantee we'll be back all the way from California. :)

The house is absolutely gorgeous, the environment is very comfortable, and extremely clean. Amber the Inn Keeper is friendly and treats you like family, and the food is delicious. Highly recommend!!!!! Pros: Beautiful house and atmosphere, wonderful accommodations, comfortable, delicious food. Cons: B&B sits on Main Street so traffic can sometimes be noisy, although this isn't the Inns fault, this house has been here since the late 1800's. I would recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone.

She did a good job of pausing to allow loud traffic to pass ensuring we didn't miss anything. My favorite story was about the experiences folks had in the Fulton Theater - are any of us surprised the most intense experience occurred in the basement?? The tour starts at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, at the junction of King and Queen Streets, across the street from the main entrance to the Hotel Marriott Convention Center. Street parking available but it's just easier to park in one of the many garages located a block or two away. The tour is roughly 75 minutes, all sidewalk; those with mobility challenges would likely do just fine. I added this business to Yelp because it's a cute experience and I'd like for them to get a little more exposure (booking websites have reviews but I came to Yelp looking to schedule fun activities). The outside doesn't give this place justice at all. Checking in was easy and the man behind the desk was friendly. We got two bottles of water at check-in. Rooms are large and has every amenity you could need. Refrigerator, microwave, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, coffee and coffee maker...even a bottle opener on the wall near the bathroom! The only thing this room didn't have was a phone. Bed was comfy and seemed to be memory foam. Shampoo and soap is also provided. Parking is simple...you park in front of your room door. There's also laundry on site. We would absolutely stay here again. It's a simple 20 minute drive to Hershey. It's also very fairly priced! Stay here when visiting Hershey!

First sight is that the big sign is broken; smashed with pieces missing. Trash and old junk is strewn around an area next to the parking lot, looking like a city dump. Even if the owner can't afford to get the sign fixed right now, they can at least pick up the trash. The inside of the building is painted tacky bright orange and yellow, the colors of a construction zone. Also, it looks as if shady people are living there. The whole vibe made me feel uncomfortable. It is just sad. The new owners seem to take no pride in their establishment, they don't even care enough to clean up trash.
