This is a wonderful and somewhat hidden ten acre park in the Gates of Hillsboro neighborhood in…read moreDeerfield Beach. The park is along the G-08 Hillsboro Canal. There is a boat ramp so you can get your watercraft onto the canal and a fishing pier. Parking is free for boat trailers. This is a great place to boat, fish, and bird watch. During my visit I saw an osprey dive into the canal for fish and a limpkin on the pier. Other park amenities include restrooms, a playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, a sand volleyball pit, and a fitness trail with 12 exercise stations. Several small pavilions and a large main pavilion can be rented by Deerfield Beach residents from the city for a fee. I closed my exercise ring today using the fitness trail and some of the stations. It's nice to see the kids out again using the playground equipment after so many months of it being closed. This is a great spot to enjoy the best of South Florida's weather.

We arrived early, and although the parking lot is pretty large, it filled up quickly because of the event. I'm sure on regular days parking is much easier to find. Right at the entrance there's a drinking fountain, which was nice on such a hot Florida day. The park has two playgrounds -- one for younger kids and another for older children. There's also a covered pavilion area where the restroom is located. The restroom itself looked quite old and unfortunately wasn't very clean. Also, the park closes fairly early (7 AM-7 PM), and they actually lock the restroom at closing time. Huge thanks to the park ranger though -- my kids needed the restroom at the very last minute, and we literally ran to make it before the door closed. The ranger saw us coming and kindly waited for us. Very appreciated! One thing I really liked about this park is the amount of shade. There are huge trees all around the playground, so even during the heat it feels cooler and breezy. We were also surprised to find a small gazebo with a roof fully covered in solar panels -- it even had lights in the evening and a spot to charge your phone, which was such a cool detail. There aren't many benches around the playground, so my little life hack: bring a folding chair or a picnic blanket. And definitely bring mosquito spray for the evening. The playground surface looks like rubber, but somehow my kids still ended up super dusty and dirty after playing. An ice cream truck came by during the event, and the entire playground rushed toward it immediately -- of course we did too The ice cream was actually really good. I got the orange & cream flavor, and my kids chose mango. Around the playground there are walking trails and a lake with a small bridge nearby. Just something to note: the bridge doesn't have side rails, so keep an eye on little kids. Overall, it's a nice park with great shade, lots of breeze, and a relaxing atmosphere.

Fast forward to now. My boss wanted to do something to recognize the dietitians for nutrition month, so she booked us a painting party here. I was immediately anxious, I can't paint! I was nervous about going and even on the day of I did not feel any better about it. In fact, I was convinced this would really suck! About 7 of us came and our instructor was Cole. He was so very patient with us. Most dietitians have a type A personality and want to control everything. I can say that I am more easy going than that, but still, this is art we are talking about here. I am more at ease doing calorie calculations for tube feeding patients! So we begin our art session. Slowly but surely, the picture began to take place (we did a pineapple). Even more awesome, it was super relaxing, at least for me it was. Cole was very helpful and didn't make me (us) feel like we were not up to par with the art world. He guided us through the whole process, using terms that we could understand. In the end, I REALLLLLLLLLLLY enjoyed myself and was glad that my boss chose this activity for us to do! I actually asked her if we could do this again! I wouldn't mind going with some of my friends if we could get a schedule together that worked for all of us. Tons of thanks to Cole for helping me to relax and see that I am not the worst artist ever lol :)

According to my daughter, kids were constantly falling off the swings at this so-called "camp" -- at one point even together with the swing itself. That alone is already alarming. But what's worse is that a grown man stepped on my daughter's bare foot so hard that she couldn't walk for three days. No one contacted me. Not a single call. Instead, the owner told my child that she was "fine" and dismissed the situation completely. When I confronted her after picking my daughter up, she became defensive and aggressive. Not only did she refuse to apologize, she actually tried to blame me... This is not just unprofessional -- it's dangerous. If you care about your child's safety, stay far away from this place!!!

The camp itself is such a wonderful place where the kids are learning Yoga, Karate, Art and enjoying many themed events. The location is an intimate setting, so it's not intimidating and it gives the kids an opportunity to create long lasting friendships. The families that join Ladybug Camp become regulars, so the kids see familiar faces all the time. I highly recommend Ladybug Camp.
