We had a great experience with fun With horses. We had multiple trainers, but our favorite was Michael. My son is autistic and you can tell that Michael loves children and his heart. After researching available equine experience options in the area, I chose Fun With Horses because it offered something most of the others don't - the opportunity for a child to get acquainted with their horse prior to getting in the saddle. Staff member Stacy was very patient with my granddaughters (10 & 13) as she instructed them in critical pre-ride basics, such as how to tie a quick release knot, how to brush the horses (including which brushes to use and when), and cleaning their feet. During this time, the girls got to know their horses and were comfortable leading them to the arena. Stacy provided clear instructions on mounting, guiding, and stopping at an easy-going pace that allowed the girls to feel confident in what they were doing. As a long-time horseperson, I was thrilled with the introduction to horses the girls received. They had time to make friends with their horses before the ride and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and they can't wait to do it again. In addition, the horses were well-behaved, and Stacy was informative and patient. As an FYI - several years ago I took my other two grandchildren (13 & 11 at the time) to a typical rental stable for a trail ride, their first real exposure to horses. They were given no opportunity to get acquainted with the horses and instead were plopped into the saddle and headed down the trail single file. Though I was riding right behind them, it was impossible to talk with them and provide encouragement due to the width of the trail. If you haven't been around horses, being on top of a large animal and unsure how to control it can be a terrifying experience. I learned after the ride the 13-year-old was scared the whole time, and I'm pretty sure she'll never go near a horse again. So for those reviewers who complained that they thought the prep was a waste of time, that they were disappointed their child didn't get to go out on the trail, take it from someone who's worked with horses most of her 60+ years that the time spent getting a horse ready to ride is as much, if not more important, than the ride itself. Building a relationship with that animal before getting in the saddle enriches the child's experience and helps ensure they can enjoy the ride with little to no fear. I booked a 30 minute appointment for my 3 y.o. which was the perfect amount and she loved it so much, My son is 6 and he did the hour. I was just thinking I was booking a horseback lesson but we got so much more. He loved the whole experience. They prepped the horse and did all the steps went over all the equipment and all the rules. I would definitely recommend this place to my family and friends. Phenomenal experience! I got package through City program. My kid like it. Because This was her first time doing horse riding. I had horse riding experience when I was in college. I know little bit of horsemanship work. Two days winter camp. Mix age group! (5-teenage) I didn't like the idea at all! Kids riding horse less than 30 mins per day per kid! Most learning horsemanship work basic stuff. Hiking; craft. They are really try to have kids having good time. But, in my opinion not worth it if you are looking for horse riding for your kid! Because not only the fee I paid through city program. Maybe I have seen too many movies with horses, but I find them to be such beautiful, graceful creatures. I imagined what it would be like to go riding and when I saw the Groupon for Fun With Horses, I jumped at the chance (and bargain) to learn how to ride locally here in Orange County! To make a reservation, you can call/text (949) 285-5286 or email funwithhorse@yahoo.com. It was an easy process and I arrived the day of my lesson. (Keep your eyes open, I definitely drove by this place and missed the entrance.) Parking is available in front of the stables. Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow enough time to complete paperwork. I brought my own bike helmet; otherwise I would have had to pay $15 to RENT a helmet. My solo session was on a weekday afternoon. A nice woman taught me about horsemanship, safety, how to halter, groom, saddle and basic riding. All riding is held in a fenced in arena...YOU WILL NOT GO ON A TRAIL. The picture on Groupon is false! Also be prepared to be "instructed" by very young staff members. It's all fun and games until you are up close and personal with a 1500 pound (still beautiful) animal who might crush your foot. I think horses can sense fear, but I don't think they can smell pee. I would estimate that 20 minutes were spent grooming the horse I believe is named James? Jimmy? & 30 minutes were spent learning how to ride with the remaining 10 minutes used to unsaddle and clean him again. Near the very end of my "lesson" my horse was spooked by a few other animals walking near the stables. I swear I saw my life flash before my eyes while I envisioned him throwing me off but luckily the woman was able to calm him down. I left grateful to be alive and with extremely sore legs. Overall, it's a meh experience and tolerable because I saved money buying through Groupon. If you're an adult, I suggest going elsewhere. read more

This is a long overdue review, but I hope it gives you some helpful insight about this place. Horses are one of my top favorite animals and my boyfriend definitely took advantage of that fact when he took me here for a fun weekend date. I don't know how much we paid for it since it was a surprise date (and the Mister likes to keep those things secret to me), however I do know that there is a Groupon available right now ($33 for a 60 minute horseback riding session). So be sure to grab that while it's still available. I have to admit, there was a bit of some disorganization among the workers since my boyfriend and I waited until someone was available to help us. This was our first time horseback riding together and we didn't really know what to expect. However, with our session, one of the helpers taught us how to saddle a stead, groom a horse, and also get some horse-riding time. My boyfriend and I rode separately and we each had our own instructor. Keep in mind, this isn't a place for you to go horseback riding with a view. You are at the stables inside a gated area getting a horseback riding lesson. I was able to go through some of the riding courses and I had the independence in steering my horse in whichever direction I wanted to (my instructor told me that I was more "advanced" for a beginner haha). While riding, I got to jump my horse over some small obstacle courses, which was pretty cool. It was an awesome experience because the horse and I had really great synergy :) Overall, I enjoyed my horseback riding here. I highly recommend calling this place beforehand to see if reservations are needed. This place can get pretty packed. Be sure to snag that Groupon deal. Dress appropriate for the occasion (comfortable clothing, close-toed shoes). Helmets are provided too. read more

I bought a groupon for my granddaughter for Xmas. She has always wanted to ride a horse, which was also my dream when I was little. I was truly impressed with Fun with Horses. Not only has she learned some riding techniques, she also learned the responsibility of taking care of a horse and the use of the equipment required to ride a horse. My other granddaughter decided she wanted lessons also. She is much more timid, but these lessons taught her to speak up, especially when trying to controller a big animal. They have both learned responsibility and the appreciation for horses. I have also started taking lessons, as my goal is to own a horse in the near future. I did not realize how much you need to learn in order to care for a horse and to ride properly and safely. Sheryl has been working with me, and has taught me a lot. Yes, she does let me know when I am doing something wrong, but that is only because she wants us to learn to ride the correct way and how to handle a 1500 lb. animal safely. Sheryl truly cares for her students and staff. People who think they didn't get what they paid for need to know that you just don't jump on a horse and ride, there is a lot to learn. Absolutely the best experience I've ever encountered with a horse! I took my son and his cousins for his 8th birthday. Cheryl and Heidi were incredibly kind and sweet with my family, they truly made my sons birthday amazing! He talked about how great the people were and how clean and smart the horses were. It has been a year and now little sister wants to ride too. They have their lessons together once a week and I can't take enough pictures. Their love for horses is one thing they share together and these lessons are special times that I will be scrapbooking photos of for them to look back on. Great instruction here. The children that take classes here are not only told how to mount and ride, but also about the tackle, and cleaning the animals, which I think is important. It teaches the children to get to know the animal and be patient and look out for them, rather than just using them as a "ride". Cheryl can be rough with people, but the atmosphere, the way the property is run and the education, is a good experience. There isn't much for those waiting for lessons, and water and shade is sometimes hard to come by, since this is in an area that gets hot during some days. read more

If I can give her a negative 5 star, I would. This place is a disgrace. Do not take your kid(s) here unless you want them to be treated badly by a loud mouth, tactless, RUDE, money hungry, and extremely disrespectful person named Sheryl. She is one of a kind. It's a shame that she would walk around with a shirt says "For his Glory" while behaving in such ill manner. I signed my kids up for the "city class" as was called by this Sheryl. The registration was unorganized. All she cared for is "I need my $20 fee." "Did you pay?" "Did you pay?" Like a parrot, she kept on repeating that over and over again with an unnecessary level of loudness and rudeness. She doesn't give you a receipt when you paid. Just grab the money (she literally GRABBED the money ... like yank it out of your hand) and shoved it down her jeans pocket. Classless. One of the moms asked Sheryl what is the $20 for. She rudely answered, it is for the kids to use the restroom, the water that she spray on the dirt when it gets too dry and the 5 pieces of carrots that she gives them to feed her own animals. WOW. This woman has the nerve. BTW, this $20 is addition to the class fee that we paid already. Before I go on, I want to compliments the young people that actually teach the kids. These are very nice people. They are friendly, courteous and caring (except for one young girl ... who I think is Sheryl's daughter. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. She's the only one that has an unpleasant attitude). The trainers themselves are young riders who are learning how to ride. Just like the rest of us, Sheryl treats them very badly. Yelled at them in front of everybody. Criticize them and treat them like they are nobody. Unlike many yelpers here, I do not have a problem with my kids spend time grooming the horses. I think that teach the kids responsibility. However, I have a problem with the fact that even though each class is an hour long, yet, at longest, the kids get to ride on a horse is 3 minutes. I timed them. I know it was not longer than that. She let them kids get on the horse and walk around the little circle twice. On the 2nd week, my boy gets to be on the horse and walk around the little circle ONE TIME. OMG my blood boil. I was so angry but I did not want to upset the already upset kid. I had to put on a cheerful face and tried to calm him down. After an hour there, this EVIL woman let the kids sit on the horse for about a minute. She is heartless. The problem is, she is money hungry. She doesn't put a limit on how many kids get to be in a class. She will pack as many of them in a class as she can like sardine. And she schedules a class every hour. Therefore, she has no choice but to short change the kids by cheating them of their experience. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. DO NOT SHORT CHANGE YOUR KIDS BY BRINGING THEM HERE. I recommend you take your time go there to see for yourself how Sheryl runs her business. If after 4 weeks of being there, you still like what you see, then disregard my review. read more

I had three different adolescents for my three groupon riding sessions -- during which most of the time was spent grooming the owner's horses for free, leaving about 20 minutes actually on the horse from a "60 minute" session. Sweet deal. Customers pay her money and we curry the horses and get them saddled. I understand that some people may enjoy that, but I requested that my third and final lesson be actually spent on the horse and that the horse be saddled and ready for me to ride upon my arrival. Not surprising, and in consistent fashion with the owner's total lack of responsiveness on all prior occasions (I had to report her to groupon to get her to contact me so I could even schedule the sessions), my request was ignored and they were walking the horse back to the stable when I got there. In response to Kathy K's 5-star review calling us nasty reviewers, "lame," horse OWNERS do not "just walk up, jump on a horse and ride off." But horse RENTERS do. I have never EVER at any riding stable been required to saddle and groom the rental horse -- and pay for the privilege of doing so on top of that. Cheryl advertised her groupon as three RIDING sessions: not three animal husbandry / care of horse sessions. Oh -- and by the way ... the only time Cheryl returned any of the multiple voicemails I left was when I left a message saying I would like information for a birthday party for about six girls. Then she actually returned my call and left a message. hmmmm .... interesting way of doing business. Advertise a great deal and then just never follow through with your prospective customers after you've already taken their money. Groupon's email to her asking her contact me noted "another" customer needing her response -- i.e., I was not the only one to have to resort to contacting Groupon to get her to hold up her end of the bargain. read more

Yeah fun at the farm if you don't mind the 57 freeway right next to you!! The traffic noise is constant and the smell of exhaust is unbearable. I went there to look at the place and when I walked into the office there were seven people sitting there talking and not one of them turned to look at us. After about a minute of awkward silence standing in a room full of people that didn't acknowledge our presence I finally said hello?? Once I had the chance to talk to them, the people in the office were condescending and rude. The whole place had a pretty bad feel to it. It sounds like Cheryl and the staff may be a little bipolar. What an amazing experience! I have never seen my little girl so excited to do something and she has not stopped talking about it since we went there. Our instructor, Brianna, was very kind, knowledgeable and an expert with horses. She made my daughter feel so comfortable and that made me relax too. I always look for horse riding lessons online but most places only allow children over 8. We found this place via Living Social and will definitely be returning for more lessons. This owner is just horrible. I would tell anyone to NEVER come here. I bought the groupon voucher for 3 rides, and the owner went on a rant about how they cannot teach me anything but the same thing for 3 lessons which is BS. Honestly, I'm going to say nothing but horrible things about this place. Im so furious and pissed off at the owner. She has no regard for business and customer service. She's rude and mean to everyone. I was going to purchase private lessons, but thats not happening anymore. I was also going to purchase lessons for my niece, but thats definitely not happening anymore. STAY AWAY!!! Yu can find a bunch of other places to learn to horseback ride with better instructors (they dont really know what they are doing) and better owners who can at least be nice. This place will go out of business sooner or later, and I'm hoping sooner. They even make you pay for a helmet? Cheap place, you can see that when you just go and visit. AND... you can never get a hold of them, and when you do, Cheryl is just plain rude and mean. And confirm your own appt??? I've dealt with lots of businesses, but none like this.
