I had a great of 45 on the Fun Zone Boat Tour and we had a fantastic time. It was such a fun and relaxing way to see Newport Bay and learn more about the area. We were able to see sea lions in their natural environment, which was definitely a highlight of the tour. Hmm a cute experience for kids for sure. My friend was terrified of the waves crashing onto the boat lol. I had a blast being out on the water with the commentary. We took the 45 minute boat tour in Newport Beach. The tour consists of enjoying the beautiful water but also seeing homes that belonged or still do to famous people. The highlight of the tour is the stop at buoy where the harbor seals hang out, make noise, and generally delighting the people on board. The captain has a lot of corny jokes and puns to lay on the passengers and we took them all in good humor although some were worse than I've been known to tell. Going along the jetty at a slow pace, you learn about the history of the area and then you get to where the channel opens into the Pacific. Shortly after this, is the seal buoy. The boat makes a large circle and you return to the dock in the 45 minutes as advertised. For me besides the buoy, the house owned by Marcy Cook was interesting. I had never heard of her (thank you, Google) but she has made enough money selling her math items that she can afford this house. Having in excess of 5,000 bears in a house seems to suggest a psychological problem, perhaps, but she does her thing. Losing one of those bears would just be unvbearable for her! OK, that'[s a sample of the captain's humor and they kept coming! I'd really recommend this tour. It's a relaxing 45 minutes and it's always nice for a desert rat to be on water! read more

Do not let your vacation in or near Newport Beach go by without taking a Sunset Cruise with the Fun Zone Boat Company. In fact, do not let your Life go by without taking a Sunset Cruise. Need to add a bit of spark to your romantic relationship--take a Sunset Cruise. Want to learn a little about the history of the area--take a Sunset Cruise. Want to give someone a great Birthday Present--take them on a Sunset Cruise. Want to reward your office--take them on a Sunset Cruise. There is a reason it's called the "Fun Zone" Boat Company and not the unhappy zone boat company. The unhappy zone boat is on Irvine Lake. We had the BEST experience on the sunset cruise last Weds. It's 90 minutes, they take you around Newport Harbor and point out all the homes and yachts of interest and then just in time for sunset they position the boat off the Wedge so you have an unblocked view of the sunset in the West. (see my pics) Then after that they take you to California Seal Buoy to hang out with the Seals for a while. (see my pics). All this for a very modest price. The folks operating the boat were nice happy people and unlike my last Sunset Cruise off the Coast of Somalia--they did not act like pirates and demand a ransom--they did politely ask for tips and we gladly gave. During these Corona Virus times they are limiting the 100 person boat to 25 people max (they told me) so plenty of room to spread out but limited tickets for each cruise. They let you bring alcohol on and food. But if you are drunk they will not let you take a turn driving the boat and calling the Coast Guard on the radio. (Just kidding!--about driving the boat and the radio.) The boat is equipped with Life Jackets and has one bathroom you should not plan on using unless it is an Extreme Emergency. Do not forgo going to the bathroom on land Before getting on the boat as if you are going on a Princess Cruise for a week. Parking is at meters on the street--Payment required up until 6 PM or at the paid lot a block away or at the Beach/Pier parking lot. We got dinner to go at Big Mex a couple of blocks away--not bad there--get the shrimp bowl. It is just a fun time so if you have not done it before--get on the boat and don't be a second late or you will "miss the boat." read more

It was fun! Lots of knowledge about the houses and who they belonged to. The captain had lots of corny jokes and puns. We came during december 2022 for the holiday lights. It was wonderful CA december weather with sunny skies. We were able to see the harbor seals as they napped in the middle of the buoy tower. I would definitely recommend coming back. We took the 90 minute sunset cruise on a Thursday night. We had a family party of 11. Ages 79 (birthday girl) to 1.5 years. There was one other customer on board with us. We left the dock at 7 pm & headed towards the bell buoy to see the sea lions. Thank goodness because the younger natives were getting restless. Everybody loved viewing the sea lions (unless you're a local & know how destructive they can be). I was wondering why we were staying so long at the bell buoy instead of heading into the harbor for the narrated tour forgetting it was the sunset tour. While we waited for the sunset the captain named Jay put on soft tunes and some danced. He volunteered to take group photos of us. He allowed whoever wanted to drive the boat! Great fun for the Littles and adults alike. Right before sunset, arrived the dolphins! You've never heard such excitement! Brought smiles to young and old alike. As the dolphins played in our bow wake the adults watched a beautiful sunset. Captain Jay pointed out additional landmarks on our back to the dock. Iincluded the bear house with 5000k + stuffed bears and every bear & bare reference we could barely stop laughing. Everybody had a fun time and created special memories as each cruise has a way of doing. Even better you can bring food and drinks on board! Be sure to remember to tip the crew read more

90 min tour was fantastic. The staff are great and did a great job providing info about the homes and history. We went on a gloomy day but the boat offers both outdoor and indoor seating. The boat was sanitized and we had 6 feet distancing. I enjoyed the last 45 min tour when we headed into the open ocean. I saw a deal for the Newport Beach Harbor Celebrity Home and Yacht Narrated 45-minute tour through Groupon and figured it'd be a fun way for my family and I to get out of the house on a Saturday and enjoy some warm sunshine over in Newport Beach. Plus I liked the fact that it wasn't too long of a tour in case I started to feel a little green. We enjoyed our narrated tour by our comical Captain narrator and were a little sad that it came to an end so quickly that we took the him up on his offer of paying an additional $5.00 more per person (Our 3-year-old was free.) and extending our tour another 45-minutes to do their Newport Beach Harbor narrated sea lion tour immediately after. Our 3-year-old daughter was a little restless during a lot of the boat ride because seeing home after home, or shall I say mansion after mansion, and boat after boat (and yacht after yacht) got a bit tiresome for her. She sure enjoyed the rougher waves when we headed out towards the open ocean to see the sea lions all stacked upon a buoy bobbing in the water. Thankfully I remembered to take my bonine and brought some ginger ale and ginger gum along for the ride in case of a rough ride. Otherwise the entire tour that took place along the harbor was very smooth sailing. Defintely worth the tour at the groupon rate (not necessarily the actual price) and we gave some of the extra money that we saved as tip to the Captain for being such a great tour guide. read more

This is so cheesy, but fun! This is our third? forth? time taking out of town friends on the tour. We have never had the same tour twice. I swear it's like the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland, the captain just makes up stuff. Who's to know? Mostly tourists go on this tour so they'll believe anything! One time, Nicholas Cage owned 3 different houses on the same tour. I think our young captain was having some short term memory problems that day. This last trip was fine, not immensely exciting, because the captain was pretty laid back. And there were some long pauses at times between identifying houses. This was a really fun way to spend an hour and a half with the kiddies. I was able to purchase a groupon deal and got 2 adult/ 2 kid tix for about $25. Not bad. The mini boardwalk with all the little shops, carousel and ferris wheel definitely make for some added value to this trip. Especially since kids gorged on ice cream right after. The boat is tiny, but seats a lot of people comfortably. The tour itself is a bit on the dry side, but full of factoids you would have never guessed. Today we took our Special Ed high school kids for a harbor tour. There were a total of about 25 total passengers. The captain was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about who lived in the harbor homes, talked about the Seals and we followed dolphins. They were so kind to the kids, we had a birthday on board and he let us borrow the boom box so we could have a little dance party. We will be making this an annual field trip. read more

I think this is the best kept secret! We went tonight for the boat parade and it was awesome. The Newport boat parade company rules the market for the parade cruises but they overcharge and their boats are packed! We went with fun zone and they were a quarter of the price and only less than 20 people including us. It very private, quiet and nice. We also got a guided tour of the millionaire homes and were right in front of the boat parade as our driver got a good parking spot. They said you can bring food and your own drinks including alcohol so we'll do that next time. Make sure you tip your boat driver! read more

Basically the sea Lion ride as well but 90 mins and on top of going out at sea you get to watch the beautiful sunset + Christmas light cruise. Wowza Rode on an hour and a half long cruise but it felt like just ten minutes cuz i was with my jee-eff namsayin well she wasnt my jee-eff on the cruise but by da end of the night she was!!! I had been calling around many boat rentals from Marina Del Rey, Long Beach and Newport Beach. I was trying to find a boat big enough for my party at the right price, a feat I found challenging. My planning worries were mostly put to ease once I spoke with Hank of Fun Zone Boats and put the deposit down for the Tiki boat. I was told it has a DJ, bar on board and they could have food ready for guests when we arrived, TRIPLE BONUS. The reservation process was very informative and easy! I just didn't know what I was walking up to with 60 guests who just party bussed from LA. THE TIKI BOAT FAR EXCEEDED MY WILDEST HOPES AND DREAMS. The staff was so very friendly and accommodating. We were allowed to bring on our own food as well which was very nice. You can not bring your own alcohol onto the the boat and the bar is CASH ONLY but they have ATMs before you board and the drinks are very affordable. I love their mini cruises. I usually take the one that goes out to see the sea lions on the buoy. Since I was I grade school, my mom will take me on this boat. Now I'm 35 with 2 little kids, and I take them on here. Sometimes you can find great deals on Groupon!!! My 4yr celebrated his 4th bday here. We had a donut cake for him, and the captain even let him drive the boat!!! One thing I wish they would do... is clean the boat up and make it look prettier.
