The staff are all incredibly friendly, and they are very flexible in accommodating to your needs. I took a pottery class for three weeks, and I had a blast! It was incredibly fun, and the instructor was super awesome! I really loved it. I wish I had more time to work with the instructors, but my schedule did not allow. Love the friendly atmosphere, and I got to meet so many creative people while practicing during the open studio hours. I do wish they had longer hours so it was more convenient for me schedule, but I understand this was mainly fitted around school-going children. They have a lot of cool workshops for kids, and the instructors are all very amazing from the art that I see the kids produce. There are so many different things they offer! They also allow adults a lot of resources and space to exercise their own creative projects, which I think is excellent. Everything is pretty reasonable, too! I definitely I wish I had found this place sooner! Their mascot cat is also incredibly friendly, and I adore her!

After reading them, I feel compelled to add my experience, which was, and continues to be, very positive. A year or so ago, I picked up a nice original lithograph from The Second Show, but it needed new glass. I took it to Sketch, where Amy not only took care of that, but touched up the wood frame, advised against changing the mat, and the total cost was more than reasonable. Very personalized service and for that reason I go in to buy art cards and cute bags and art supplies for gifts, wanting to support them. She's been helpful when I had questions - today, looking for a chalkboard for a child. Even though they don't carry it, she gave a suggestion on where I could find it and, if not, she would order one for me. (I'm no longer from Montclair NJ!)

I always ask for Angela, she is so knowledgeable about framing and color selection for matting(if needed). She is also an artist so she has a very good eye for colors. She asks about your decor, and other important questions needed to make your selection the best needed for you. I tend to come in to have prints matted and/or framed. Archival materials are the norm. The staff will also mat to ready-made frame sizes or custom. Their training also makes choosing mats easier. "Do you want bright white or eggshell white?" "Let's look at them together." Additionally, they offer to amend things that I didn't notice. A print I asked to have matted and framed was slightly curved. I was assured the print would be flattened prior to being matted and framed so it would sit more snugly. I'm sure most customers would appreciate that attention to detail. Here's to hoping this establishment continues to provide goods and services to this community for a long time to come.

They sell the pencils individually so she can selectively restock the ones she runs out of most. Apparently, green is the most frequently used color for all the grass in landscapes so she can buy individual ones here very reasonably instead of buying a whole new package of pencils. They also have a nice selection of gift items like small pouches, reusable bags, socks, cards and assorted small art themed things. The selection of easels is extensive and includes table easels and standing easels. Tons of canvas, paints and paint brushes. Prices are reasonable. I found the staff a little overbearing (they greeted me multiple times) when I entered the store but were friendly at checkout. Highly recommend.

Even if your brushes are dried out this stuff brings them back and it also easily removes paint etc. from your hands. And it's bio. I've tried to order it from Catskill AS but they won't order it saying that their supplier doesn't carry it. I CAN order it from Rhinebeck Art Supply in New Paltz and I do but Catskill is closer and I'd gladly get it from there when I purchase other items. I used to live in NYC and shopped at New York Central Art Supply and it was a pleasure and a great place. For an art supply store not to be able to order certain items is inexcusable. If you need it and it exists they should be able to order it. Bad business practice. If you are reading this try the stuff it's amazing. New Paltz will have it in the store in a couple of weeks. Crafts People has about 3 buildings and each, are filled with unusual gifts. One building highlights their candles and soaps. Main building houses their jewelry- from brass-made, sterling, beads, bracelets, etc. Another building, has woven items and other knick-knacks. Crafts People showcases local artists and their unique creations. We stopped by and picked up a necklace for our daughter and my hubby surprises me with a funky Copper and Turquoise necklace. Mary was so sweet and wrapped our daughter's necklace in a gift box. The attention that Crafts People gives, is always top-notch. Thank you- as always.
