However, during our reception in the last hour I came to see if he could play some of the songs from the list I put together and he rudely said "you didn't sent me your list" and "I think I'm doing a pretty great job." He continued on without addressing me and fully ignored me while I was trying to speak with him. My husband and I got married at Scribner Bend this past weekend. Hiring Steve as the DJ/MC for our wedding was one of the best choices we could have made. Steve guided us throughout the planning process. He asked us what our goals and priorities were, and made excellent suggestions on how to make that happen. For example, we wanted all of our guests to be engaged and a part of the celebration, and his idea to have tables "dance to the buffet line" achieved that perfectly. The "social media moment" at the altar lightened the mood and was super fun. He helped us write funny introductions to celebrate the wedding party. The photo booth was a big hit, and we're looking forward to watching the video messages that our guests recorded after taking their photos. Finally, his suggestion for the bridal bouquet toss to be a "toss for luck" got so many more of our guests involved than the traditional bouquet toss. The sound setup was absolutely perfect. For the ceremony, my husband and our officiant were wearing microphones on their lapels. Our guests specifically commented that they could hear every word of the ceremony, which isn't always the case during weddings. During the cocktail hour and reception, music could be heard throughout the venue. The toasts were also well heard, thanks to the microphone at the head table. My husband and I interviewed DJ after DJ, all referrals and when we finally found Steve it was the diamond in the rough we had been searching for! First of all, you get what you pay for. Where can I start about Function 45... We decided to hire Steve for our wedding entertainment after talking with him and three other different DJs. We connected with him right away, and his pricing was reasonable. Not too cheap to make you worry why it was indeed so inexpensive, but also not too expensive to make you shake your head and hide your wallet. As soon as we booked with Steve, he gave us some worksheets to think about different songs and items he will be looking for once we meet a month and a half before the wedding. We arrived at his office once that day came, which is nicely decorated and super comfortable. He was well-prepared and asked all of the right questions just to get a feel for who we are as a couple and what kind of feel we wanted for our big day. My wife and I had planned our wedding 3 different times and Covid threw a wrench into those plans every single time. Steve was extremely communicative and encouraging with ideas and adaptations he would do to keep the train moving. 3 days out we found out our venue had been shutdown. We ended up having to plan, prepare and host a ceremony and reception at my wife's parents backyard on a 3 days notice. Steve was so accommodating and willing to fulfill his commitment no matter what situation had happened. Let me start by saying that we had a SMALL wedding. Only 18 people total! We weren't even sure if we wanted a DJ at all... Enter Steve. While other DJs we inquired with were plugging their high-tech gear and up-selling services, Steve wanted to have a deeper discussion and talk about what he could do to really make our wedding day smooth and create the atmosphere we wanted. He quickly put our fears to rest about hiring a DJ for a smaller wedding, and had a bunch of wonderful and unique ideas that we were able to utilize to really make the day special. By the way, just because he doesn't jump out the gate with a list of all of his fancy gear doesn't mean it isn't top-notch. When my husband and I first started planning our wedding we thought we would be frugal and just have a friend press play on a laptop connected a speaker. Best decision we made to go with a professional entertainer, and ever better to have gone with Steve. We probably talked for about an hour and a half, and he answered the majority of our questions without us even having to ask first. My husband and I loved his charisma and booked him the next day. Stop looking for DJ's because Steve is the best you will find! As many others have said, we wish we could give Steve a 10 STAR rating, because he deserves it. We had our wedding on 8/12/17 at Scribner Bend Vineyards, and from beginning to end he has been amazing to work with. We interviewed 2 other DJ's from the preferred vendors list in person, and did a phone interview with Steve. We knew 5 minutes into our chat that we had found our guy! Even though we booked him over a year in advance, Steve still was there to answer any questions I had and was always quick to respond. When the wedding was about a month away, Steve sat down with us for almost 2 hours, and helped us plan the day from beginning to end. He has amazing ideas that he presents and helps you tailor the day to make it unique and a representation of you as a couple. I was telling people how excited I was about our DJ because I knew he was going to put on a fantastic event. When we lined up to go down the aisle, Steve was already set up and ready to go. Everything we planned was executed perfectly, and he made sure our guests knew exactly what was happening, and he kept everything flowing perfectly. On top of everything we planned, he had tons of surprises in store as well. From interacting with our guests during dinner, playing a game to give away the centerpieces, and so much more! I don't want to give too much away, because you deserve to be surprised on your Big Day too! All of my guests have raved about Steve, and have all said that we had one of the best weddings they have ever been too, hands down. Our wedding day was perfect, and a big part of that is because of Steve! We recommend him to anyone who is looking for a DJ because he is the best, and on top of everything else, his rates are more than reasonable for what you get! We could not have been happier with Steve! We enjoyed working with him in the pre-meetings and he absolutely 'got' our Vision. He even had some great ideas that absolutely improved our wedding (no spoilers - I'll let him surprise you ;) ). Day-of he nailed it - he adeptly wrangled the guests as well as the wedding party, served as an adept Master of Ceremonies, kept us on schedule and really got the party going when the dancing started. He juggled our disparate musical requests and had both 'adults' and 'kids' dancing alongside each other. I had to update my review. I was at a wedding recently and had a chance to reunite with a friend who I haven't seen since my wedding over a year ago. One of the first things he said to me was, "dude it's too bad they don't have the DJ that you had at your wedding. That guy was literally the best wedding DJ I've ever heard". Your family and friends come to your wedding and reception because they live and care about you.
