We highly recommend using SJ's DJ for any event or wedding. Even given uncertain times, Joe was extremely flexible with a few last-minute changes popping up like needing additional equipment and even a full photo booth rental the week of the wedding. Let me start this review by saying that almost every single guest under the age of 35 told me that my wedding was the most fun wedding they have ever been to. That is 100% thanks to Joe and his incredible DJing. Joe DJ'd my wedding in August of 2019 on a 98 degree day - his music was so upbeat it did not stop my guests from sweating through their dresses and suits just so they could dance more. Joe was a pleasure to work with. I am a bit of a music control freak and I actually made spotify playlists for our wedding dinner and cocktail hour and he played those for those events (which made me very happy), but for the reception he was on his own. He took no more than 5 minutes to figure out how to please my mixed race crowd (I am white and my husband is Indian) and he was able to keep everyone dancing all night by using a mix of Latin, Indian, and of course American dance hits. Emphasis on the Latin music because it kept the dance floor full! Joe encourages people to have fun with their wedding and do unique things, like the shoe game with another couple that has been married for 20+ years (hilarious, btw). But the biggest hit at our wedding was the roasting of the wedding party which was highly encouraged by Joe. Never have I seen as much fear on my sister-in-law's face then when she realized everyone in the wedding party was getting roasted upon entrance into the reception. The guests LOVED IT! I still hear to this day how hilarious it was. I had several very specific requests that I actually only wrote down via email and sent to Joe and he knew exactly what I meant and what I wanted. This applies to clients and other vendors, including myself as the coordinator. He is always accessible to answer questions which puts myself and our clients at ease. Many engaged couples think that DJs only play music (I'll get more into this later). So what happens when the couple doest want dancing? Joe has many alternative ways to entertain the crowd and make it special to YOU and YOUR day. Not only that, but SJDJs is very up to date with social media & current wedding trends. Although he has been doing weddings & events for years, you won't see Joe's website, Instagram, or Facebook something straight out of the 90s. He also has a chat forum on his website that allows perspective and current clients to reach him instantly. He brought this idea to the Sacramento market, and many companies adopted it. Set-Up/Equipment: Joe has very reliable equipment, and plan B's for everything. I cannot tell you how important it is to have sufficient and reliable equipment. During the ceremony, the sound is CRYSTAL CLEAR and can be heard all the way in the back of the back. How many times have you gone to a wedding and not heard the vows or the toasts? Not the case with Joe. And, if he is going to a new location, you better bet he will stop by first to make sure he knows what to expect and what to bring. He is always on time when loading-in, and his equipment is easy & quick to set-up and pack up. He is also dressed appropriately when setting up. MC/Transitions: The most under-rated but most important part of wedding day. I cannot stress how this part of the job can make or break the vibe of the day. Recognizing and reading cues from the couple, guests, and vendors is something only experience can teach you. My favorite thing to tell people about Joe's work is that everything will flow seamlessly. My personal favorite as a coordinator, is that I can take one glance at Joe from across the room and he knows what I'm thinking. DJ/Song Selection: Joe works with the client to gather songs for the event. With your selections/genres in mind, if you let him take the wheel you will have one amazing dance floor. As mentioned, he is great at reading the crowd, incorporating their requests, but also staying true to the couple and their desires. A packed dance floor is staple of SJDJs. He will literally walk you through your wedding music from the beginning to end during your planning meeting, as well as provide you insight on what fun entertainment your guests will enjoy. We even wanted to incorporate unique things that you normally don't see at weddings, and Joe was more than capable of helping us pull it off. It went so freaking smooth!! Personal! - Joe is funny! Honestly, he just knows how to feel the atmosphere so that there isn't too much of a specific genre playing too much and knows how to pace the rhythm of the night, because no one can be dancing to the same BPM (beats per minute) the whole time. DJ-ing is an art, and Joe is a master at it. Emcee! - You may not understand how important a good DJ is for a wedding. They are the heartbeat of the event. They keep the entertainment moving. RICH !!!! I can't say enough good things about Rich. We met with Rich twice before the wedding and he helped us with song selections and played them and truly gave us a day of visual. My husband and I are both very into music and we had no idea how challenging it would be picking songs. (First dance, father daughter dance, grandfather dance, anniversary dance) As I sat down to have my makeup done for our wedding I could see Rich running around in the HEAT setting up and he looked just as excited as I did. Everything ran so smoothly and when I see the pictures coming in there is nothing but laughs smiles and dancing.
