I truly cannot believe it, but Bayo and I are fast approaching our 1-year training anniversary. I guess time truly flies when you're having fun getting fit! In summary: If you love to workout and if you are serious about fitness, being healthy, happy, kind, responsible, diligent, and all-around-awesome, you will have an amazing resource in Bayo. His knowledge runs deep and he embodies the teachings of functional fitness. He is a master of his craft, wants the best for his clients in every aspect of their lives, and will make sure you are getting there efficiently. For those of you who like to read...continue on... A little about me: You can consider me to be the pickiest, highest-standard-having-brat when it comes to trainers. I am a life-long athlete; I played in college; and I've been absolutely spoiled in coaches and trainers along the way. Around a year ago (and after many a boring spin class) I felt ready to head back into the gym, to lift, and work to regain the muscle. I knew what I was looking for was going to be hard to find. I needed to find a trainer who understood what my body is capable of (while considering my injuries), and also, who could create killer and exciting workouts that yielded results. I found all that and much more in Bayo and Alternative Fitness Training. A lot about Bayo: Bayo is absolutely awesome! Bayo is a trainer who lives, breaths, and graciously teaches fitness and wellness in totality. As someone who is on a fitness journey, he is a constant source of inspiration to me and constantly gives such helpful affirmation, too. I knew my research had paid off as soon as I walked into Bayo's gym in Downtown Los Angeles. Bayo has a super clean space with a very cool layout and so many pieces of equipment. When we first met we chatted for a bit about my goals, did some measuring, and then got to working out. It was so great meeting a trainer who was both as serious but also as laid back as I! I truly felt so lucky to have found him. And basically, I've been hooked ever since. I have even recently upped to seeing Bayo 3 times a week for 1-hour. I have absolutely seen the exact changes I wanted to see in my body, and I owe that to Bayo - even though he would never take credit! He is a master of his craft. He doesn't have to create a workout before you arrive, he sort of let's you inspire him or he gauges your ability, and then can magically create and modifying something on the spot. It's beyond impressive and makes for a seriously fun time.

First time I walked in, I talked to Bayo and he was very clear about how we would procede as a team, and what I should expect. As a skinny girl, I was training to become stronger and have a more defined body. Which I got! I definitely feel myself stronger, and I can see, overall, very positive changes. His gym is impeccably clean! Very organized. Bayo is a very good trainer, that will push you even when you do not believe yourself. He will stand by your side and encourage you to do your best. Thank you very much for your guidance, Bayo. Ps: 1st picture from early September, 2nd picture from November 24. Abs and arms are the most noticeable changes, but as I said, overall, I feel and see myself much stronger.

I just looked up when I first started training with Bayo and I didn't realize we've already passed our two year anniversary! I'm so happy I took the leap and called Bayo to schedule our first series or sessions. I've never been an athletic or active person, but Bayo is the right balance of nice and encouraging. In between various workouts I tend to sit around too long, and it's extremely helpful to have Bayo there to push me to be stronger and faster. Thanks Bayo! I look at photos of myself from 2 years ago and feel so happy with all the improvement. I could not have done it with you!

    Yay! Abs!!

Today marked my 20th session with Bayo! I have been training between 1-3 times a week since April and I am extremely happy with my results! I have always been an athlete but moving further inland (I am a surfer) and a busy work schedule contributed to my weight gain. I tried months of working out on my own with no results, 11 weeks, 5 times a week! I was so frustrated. I finally had enough and found Bayo! I have lost almost 15 pounds! I am a petite girl and when I started out on my "weight loss journey" a lot of friends and family hit me with the "No.. no... you are crazy, you don't need to lose weight!" But now, they are asking me how they can do it!! Only you know your body and your full potential and it feels so amazing to finally be on the right track. My body fat percentage went from 23 to 17 percent! I feel so much stronger, lighter, more confident and healthier!! Aside from training, Bayo helps you focus on the right diet. He doesn't just say "bye" after each session. He always there to answer questions and keep me on track! There were a lot of "healthy" things I thought* I was eating and with his coaching and guidance eliminating those things from my diet have made a huge difference. Thank you Bayo for encouraging me and putting up with my kicking and screaming (Did I mention I don't love working out?! Don't worry people, you can do it!!) Jessica

This is how I looked before training with Bayo.

I am over 50 and fabulous thanks to Alternative Fitness Training! When I began training, I could not even do one crunch or sit-up. I was even afraid to sit on the ball without help. I was a mess! I was 60 lbs over weight, with an old back injury that I used as my excuse for not working out. The truth was, I sat at a computer 12 to 14 hours a day for work and "ate everything," throughout the day. Then, I met Bayo and my world started to change. He treated me so well. He didn't laugh at me or make me feel bad about my starting condition. He simply met me where I needed to start. I needed to build core muscles, to learn how to balance my weight, and to build my strength and endurance everywhere. My work schedule was grueling, from 7 am until 8 pm or 9 pm most days. So, he agreed to get up three days a week to work out with at 5:00 am. That's right, I said 5:00 am! He was consistent, he met me every morning with a smile, soft music and words of wisdom. We talked about my poor eating habits, strategies to reduce my stress levels and daily activities to do between workouts. He made it all seem possible. He never doubted that I could change my body shape. Me, on the other hand, I had lots of doubts. But, his commitment was so genuine, that I felt compelled to give him my best effort. And, boy did it pay off! For eight months, we worked out three days a week. Even when I would try to skip a day, he would reschedule another day to ensure that I got my three days in per week. Then, it started to happen. I could see "muscles" and I could walk up stairs without getting winded. I could stand up straighter and my back pain went away as my core got stronger. My legs began to take shape and my arms grew "mini" guns! My face trimmed down and my waist melted away. For the first time in over twenty years, my outside (body shape) began to match how I felt, my younger self. I became the sexy woman that I had once been. I was no longer ashamed to tell my friends that I had once been a beauty queen. My teenage daughter watched silently watched my transition, month after month. Until one day, she asked if she could train with him as well. I was delighted to have her work with him. He taught her about eating tips and exercise habits that would benefit her for a lifetime. She was not over weight but she wanted muscle definition and a smaller waist. She saw dramatic results right away. She, too, is delighted with the training, diet and inspirational talks that Bayo provided. She is now on the right track for life. He was also a wonderful role model for her. We are both better women today because of his professionalism, dedication, and inspiration. So, here's my professional recommendation. The experience was worth every penny and every hour spent. I only wished that I have started years earlier.

So, first off, let me say that this has been an amazing experience training with Bayo. From day one, he helped not only with perfecting simple form and techniques during our workouts but also with the nutritional aspects that I have always had such a hard time with. In the workouts, there was a perfect balance of training with my own body weight, weightlifting and the use of machines in the gym. His advice, his critiques, his motivation and his knowledge really pushed me in such a positive way. The day before I first trained with him for a full session, I was at 167 lbs. Three months later and I am at 142 lbs! Losing these first 25 lbs seemed absolutely impossible on my own. I was very unmotivated but knew I needed a kick in the butt, so to speak, and I needed to start working with someone who would guide me in the right direction. Bayo is definitely that kind of trainer. My photo for proof shows me wearing a pair of pants I purchased a week before I started training. They were VERY fitted throughout when I bought them! I just donated those pants yesterday because I can't, and won't, go back to that size! There's still more work to put in, and Bayo is the best trainer to help. Thanks, Bayo!

Bayo is the ultimate trainer! 85lbs shredded Thanx Bayo!

I needed a place to stay in town for a night while my apartment was dealing with construction, and…read moresince I've considered becoming a member of the Los Angeles Athletic Club, I figured this was a pretty good way to test-drive the place. The best part of staying at the hotel is that you get full access to the club, including the gym, pool, locker rooms, spa, sauna, and Jacuzzi. I used the locker room, sauna, and Jacuzzi and really enjoyed all of it. Very nice facilities and definitely the part of the experience that makes staying here different from a normal hotel. The locker room was a little confusing as a first-timer. I had no idea where I was supposed to get a locker or exactly how everything worked, and I happened to arrive at a very busy time. There seemed to be some assumed etiquette that everyone else already understood. A 30-second explanation at hotel check-in would go a long way. The hotel room itself was incredibly clean. Like, noticeably clean. Honestly cleaner than a lot of Marriott properties I've stayed at recently. Beyond that, though, the room is pretty no-frills. Mine was right near the elevator, so it was noisy, and despite being inside this grand historic athletic club, the actual hotel room experience somehow gives a little bit of motel energy. Clean motel energy, but still. Both the hotel staff and restaurant staff were very nice throughout my stay. For dinner I went to Invention, the club's lounge-style restaurant. Really nice atmosphere and a good place to hang out without having to leave the building. I ordered the steak frites and asparagus, plus a cocktail called Respect Your Elders, made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, St-Germain, Amaro Montenegro, and Angostura. Pretty good. Basically what would happen if an Old Fashioned developed a sweeter, slightly more herbal personality. I also had a Sangiovese, which really hit the spot after my recent trip to Italy. And then pecan pie for dessert. Yum. No notes. The steak came out a little more cooked than I would have preferred, but everything was very flavorful. For dinner entertainment, I happened to be sitting next to a couple on what appeared to be an exceptionally awkward first date. No reservation required for that show. The next morning I went to Famous Players coffee shop for breakfast. I had the California breakfast with eggs, avocado, and bacon, plus a latte. Solid breakfast, and more importantly, it was a nice place to wake up, open the laptop, and get some work done over coffee. I also appreciated the photos of USC football players on the walls. Fight On! Overall, I'm glad I stayed here. As a pure hotel, I probably wouldn't go out of my way for the rooms alone. But as a hotel attached to a historic athletic club where you can work out, swim, sauna, soak in the Jacuzzi, eat, drink, get breakfast, and basically spend your entire stay without leaving the building, it's a pretty unique experience. And as someone who had been considering membership, staying overnight was actually a great way to see what the club is really like.

But it now caters to a younger crowd and has substantial co-working space. I've certain found more members using the facilities but also discovered quite a bit of new programmings like the Pilates classes, mahjong club, live jazz performances and movie nights. I was not really sure about the change at the beginning but I am now fully embracing the new LAAC. Many of the staff and members have been here for a long time and it is nice to be greeted by familiar faces when coming to the club. The restaurants are pretty decent. Love to top my salad with a nice piece of salmon after workout at the Famous Players or have a tasty glass of scotch while enjoying the live jazz performance at the Invention. The sports bar Duke's has great happy hours and fun monthly evening karaoke or chess club meetings. The only thing I complain about is the need for shock absorbance and insulation of the noise or moving the weight station. The northwest corner of the Famous Players near Olive Street shakes every time the weightlifters drop their weights, which is very annoying and distracting for the diners. Feel like the ceiling or floor is going to drop out. No joke. For now, I would sit as far away from the northwest corner as I possibly can. But hope the club would look into it. I have been trying to sign up for the monthly wine tasting but they are always full. Maybe consider having the event more frequently or scale up? Regardless, I am still exploring all the new offerings at the club and really pleased with the Pilates classes and the live music performances. Although I am apprehensive when I first see the co-working space and the influx of new members, I now appreciate the additional events and classes that come with the new members and hope the club continues to do well and do better as I am here to stay.
