Then my mother unexpectedly passed away on July 5, 2025. Victor and the wonderful and professional staff at San Jose Funeral Home East immediatly and compassionately took charge of arranging all the details of her funeral with our family. Needless to say, the funeral exceeded our expectations. The oak open casket, flowers, Celebration of Life Video Slideshow, live singer, program hand-outs, entrance photos of my beautiful mother, rosary services and transportation to Ft Bliss National Cemetary--all took place flawlessly and beautifully. Unprofessional and Disheartening! Hillcrest has completely lost its touch and compassion for…read moregrieving families. The only concern seems to be money. Our mother was cremated without any consent or confirmation from the family regarding whether we would be present. Hillcrest (Sophia) unilaterally made this decision, depriving us of the opportunity for a final viewing. When this was addressed with staff, they shifted blame onto family members, causing even more pain during an already devastating time, rather than taking accountability. They assumed it was the right decision, which was unacceptable and deeply hurtful. Be aware, their staff shows lack of competence. The staff showed poor judgment and did not take the initiative to clarify. Staff was Dismissive and untrustworthy, as we were blatantly lied to. The Person handling our mothers arrangements, Sophia was on The phone with the crematory and she told us that it could be postponed till tomorrow an hour later we received a call stating the process was completed, which made no sense. We went to the crematory and they told us when she called the first time they had already told her the process had started why she lied to us, especially in our face is unknown . Horrible experience for a grieving family. No family should have to endure this. Use a different funeral home, let competent people handle the care of your loved ones. The main problem I have with this location is COMMUNICATION. I understand it's a busy time due to…read morecovid, but they need to let family members know when their loved ones are cremated or when the ashes have returned to their office so the family can get the services scheduled and lay them to rest. Especially when the receptionist tells you they will call and let you know these things. You never get call backs either when you leave messages, so don't bother, I literally had to waste my time going into the office to get answers that I could've gotten over the phone. My family member was cremated and back at their office sitting there for 2 months, the only reason I knew this was because I called to get an update and found out this information. They never called to inform me the ashes were in. They were nice and polite in every other aspect, they just need work on the communication issue.

The staff welcomed guests to see the various altares in their museo de funerales. A tour of the museum was free and the staff was super friendly in informing us tmm about Salvador Perches" dream to take over the family funeral home business, and the development of taking care of our beloved after their passing Also on the grounds we're a country le of food trucks and Lucha Frontera provided some lucha libre entertainment. We enjoyed aguas frescas and tacos from the food trucks and enjoyed the high flying elbows, leg drops, and suplexes offered by the wrestling entertainers from Lucha Frontera.
