I've been to Fung Soong a few times. The atmosphere is relaxing, with good attention to detail for decor. I like the fake vines placed around the space, inviting serenity. The prices here have gone up significantly over the past five years. A 60 minute foot reflexology is 55, and 70 minutes is $60. I recommend the 70 minute foot massage, which includes some attention to other areas of the body too. If you have a specific pressure preference, let the person on the phone know when you book your appointment, and remind the person at the desk once you arrive; that way they can pair you to the appropriate therapist, and you have a much better opportunity to get what you want. I had a session tonight with Allen, and he met my desired pressure needs well. I love a very deep massage. It was a great session all around. He targeted my areas well and was professional. This is one of my favorite places for foot reflexology in SF, and that's why I rate it five stars. Plan to tip them at least twenty percent. I tipped 28%. Note -- this is a reflexology place and not an upscale spa, so set your expectations appropriately. I feel much better after the massage. read more

The massage therapist, Lily, repeatedly tried to upsell additional time during the session, which already made the experience uncomfortable. Since this place had good reviews, I agreed, expecting a professional experience. However, throughout the massage, there was repeated touching and rubbing around my upper thigh area that felt completely unnecessary and made me very uncomfortable. What made it worse was the payment process at the end -- she stood right next to me watching while I selected the tip amount, which felt extremely awkward and pressured. I unfortunately am giving this place 2 stars when I really want to give it just one. I thought that I should try the place myself despite all the other reviews. I can say, you really get what you pay for. I got a full body massage. Came in to check in and the lady didn't even write down my requested appointment time. Asked me again why I was there and for how long. Took me straight back to an area (the entire area was separated by curtains) and asked me to undress and get on the bed. The pillow was barely covered with a paper towel that had slits cut in them. There were no real privacy. You can hear all the noises from outside and inside. The masseuse name Lisa was one that I would not go back to. All she used was elbow and forearms and it was as if she was beating me up. She did not soften her work even when I flinched, whined, told her softer, or kicked my legs from the pain. In the end, I went up to pay and asked the guy if there were any way to ask for no elbows next time and he irritably told the lady that checked me in that I was complaining. I feel bad writing this review but after seeing some of the other reviews, I had to acknowledge I had a similar experience to some of the others here. This was by far the most painful massage I have ever had. It felt like this lady was trying to inflict as much pain upon me as humanly possible and boy did she succeed. I am posting this a day later and I legit have bruises and pain points all around various points of the back side of my body. Ok please tell me if I am wrong here. But I did not have a good experience here. I've only been here once in 2022 and I remembered my experience being fine but not bad. But it just wasn't convenient for me to get to the location. Fast forward - I came back here last week I called around 1 or 2pm to come in at 5 pm I told them over the phone I wanted an hour and a half full body massage and I wanted a FEMALE masseuse. And if they could take me at 5, they couldn't but offered 6. I had dinner plans but asked if they could take me at 5:30. They said ok. At 5pm they called me and asked me if I was still coming. And I was like you guys told me you couldn't take me at 5.. I'll be there at 5:30. I walk in and they take me to my area and remove my clothes and I face down on the table. a man asked if I was ready from the other side of the curtain. I just assumed he was speaking for someone else who didn't speak English. When I called earlier initially a woman picked up the phone and handed the phone to a man who did. I say yes & someone walks in. I have no idea who walks in. He started the massage was fine for a little bit then he was going really hard and I flinch. he said "is this ok" and I was just taken back because I'm naked. It's already been 15ish min. Im not going to make a big deal because I had no problem for the 15 min that the massage started. Idk why it just wasn't assumed that I would be more comfortable to have a female masseuse. So I say can you go softer. He said ok and I think giggled. Maybe another 10 min goes by and he's rubbing my right butt cheek for what felt like 20 min. And it hurts. And then moves on to the lower back. I literally could not hold my tongue and asked again if he could go softer. I knew he was about to move on to the left butt check and lower back and all I could really do was brace myself. Obviously he doesn't. I gather the courage to ask one more time a few minutes later. For the rest of the massage I just endured it. He was done a few minutes early (it was not 90 min - but I'm thankful for that). I put my clothes on and I booked it. I paid and gave a small tip. The girl infront looked confused and I thought I didn't give her enough money for the actual massage but - she said typically customers give a 20% tip. And I was actually floored. I wanted to take my tip back. This was already $100 and they wanted more tip for literally the most painful massage I've ever had. Actually being uncomfortable for 90min was on me. I should I have stopped when I found out I was naked with a man when I specifically asked for a female masseuse. I should have told him to just stop completely and left. read more

Loved my massage here. Do not let this run down place fool you they have technicians that are good on what they do, THe lady Nancy i believed was an auntie that did my foot. I was walking all day and needed a relax. They delivered. I believe i was the only customer during that time which is me giving them a glowing review. I haven't been here since pre-Covid but so happy to come back. Prices are great, always able to walk in without appt, and everyone is friendly. We both got the 70 minute massage. Pressure of the massage was so great and she found all my knots. I love the foot soak with the foot massage. Lotion is used and was non scented. The ladies wore masks and gloves and felt hygienic. The beds were comfortable and we were both so relaxed we almost dozed off. I recommend coming here for a massage and will be back again. read more

I've been coming here for two years and never leave disappointed! My therapist works magical wonders on me as someone who has chronic lumbar pain. It's the best deal you can get in the city for the value. It's certainly no Ritz establishment but the sheets and carpet are always clean. You may occasionally hear some homeless people getting aggressive outside of Bobs Donuts but just try to stay in your zen :) My only recommendation for them is to get better massage beds that can be heated and have softer face holes, my cheeks usually are sore after about 20 minutes face down. read more

First & foremost, this isn't a day spa with no talking zones, this is foot reflexology on Polk Street. Temper your expectations. If you've never had a Chinese foot reflexology massage, and you're hoping for more of a yt-ppl-traditional/Swedish massage typa experience, consider getting a "body" massage, maybe even add in hot stones. I'll explain more below ;) I wouldn't say Fung Soong is the most zen environment ever, but I come back time & time for a few reasons: A. The price!!!! - I can get multiple massages a month for the price I would pay at the fancy shmancy "spas" across this city (that I often walk away disappointed by, and wondering why I wasted hundreds of dollars) B. A foot reflexology massage helps my body function at its best because they focus on all areas of the body, and are happy to dial into a particular area if you request extra focus -- after multiple broken bones in both feet and a foot surgery over since 2017, I've basically been in some sorta rehabbing / prehabbing / (re)building muscle situation all this time. C. They remember me, they're kind, they try their best. If you say you're cold, they you grab another blanket. Inversely, every so often in summer it'll get hot (hiiiii, old SF building) and they have fans blowing to help move air around. I recommend calling ahead to essentially make an appt - its super hit & miss when they're busy, so just help yourself by making a quick call, especially if you want a particular masseuse. As I'm typing this on Xmas I'm wondering if they're open, have availability, and can fix the knot in between my shoulder blade & ribs :/ -- it's just that type of quality I know I can rely on. Some things that would make Fung Soong even better: White noise machine either at the front door, and/or next to each chair. They play some sorta "spa sounds" playlist, but between the bus stop out front & Bob's Donuts line sometimes going beyond Fung Soong's front door. Unscented lotion (I bring my own because the perfumed lotion is not my jam) Now the difference between "foot" and "body": Foot - leave clothes on! They typically start face down and give the full body compression, stretching, feel out how your body is responding, then focus on back, arms, legs before they flip you over, but your feet in a tub of hot water, and get to work on your head, neck, arms/hands, then to your feet, legs ... andddd you're done Body - *unclothed* with oil - I forget which order they go in as it's been a while since I've had one (the feet in the hot water really bring me back to life, personally), but you should not expect the same order as mentioned above for foot massage. The oil is nice to get into deep tissue, so depending on what you need worked on, maybe this is the better option. Prices are similar, but a liiiiiittle bit higher for body. read more

No frills, but gets the job done! I came here specifically for a foot massage because I haven't had a good foot massage in a while. I called to try to find out if I needed to book an appointment but nobody answered. So, I walked in and paid up front for the hour long service. There was a slight discount for paying in cash so I did, it was $42 for the 60 min foot massage. When you enter the massage area it is a large room with prepared massage beds near the front door which is why everyone says you can hear everything from the street: you can. Being a native you kind of tune out city noises, so it didn't really bother me. I don't care to fall asleep during massages anyways. I didn't read the reflexology part before going, but luckily I remembered a colleague explaining what kind of massage that was halfway through so I wasn't surprised. The foot soak was first, which I totally get because people can have gross feet. And then there was the calf massage, then the foot massage for I think at least a half hour, then the calf massage, then I went on my belly for the full body massage. The calf massage felt uncomfortable at first, but by the second one it felt balanced and not too deep. Now, they use reflexology technique, so that may not be your cup of tea. They use fast strokes and pressure is used. It's not like when you get a massage at the spa and they want you to circle and explain your areas to work on. They pretty much just work on you here. With that said, my feet felt great afterwards, I understand why people come here once a month! I forgot to take pictures, but each bed may be separated by curtains (I went early so I was the only one there and didn't have the curtains drawn). And the lighting and ambiance is scarlet. Piano music was playing. I tipped at the end of my service, they don't use tip envelopes. read more

Getting a foot massage is always a bit of a gamble if you don't request a particular masseuse you know that has done a good job in the past. Normally, when I come to Fung Soong, I ask for Iris. I can not overstate how fantastic she is. I have left many times after a 70 min foot massage feeling 100% better than when I have walked in. Today I came in without calling ahead and made the mistake of agreeing to another masseuse as Iris was not available. I was doused in an unbelievable amount of oil and was given the oddest massage of my lower leg. It felt like someone was kicking me repeatedly on the shin bone. It then proceeded to pinching my feet. About 50 min in, I couldn't bear it anymore and called it quits. All to say that I happily will be back-- just making sure I call ahead and ask for Iris. read more

I feel so terrible I haven't reviewed this place yet! I have been coming here for years and they give you a great, hour long, great quality, full body massage. I love that rooms are pretty private (and besides the normal SF street flair you get on Polk street) usually pretty quiet. I also feel very comfortable getting nude under the sheet here and they're always super professional. Plus, a solid massage, capped off with a Bobs donut, can you imagine a better night!??!?! Extra points- you can message them on Yelp to make appointments, request specific people or a man/ women... she always gets back to us super quickly and I'm always thankful to have an appointment, since they're usually really busy! read more

Andy is my king. I love me a massage. I've been to expensive places like Canyon Ranch and the spas in the North Bay, moderate places and inexpensive gems like this. Andy is one of the best massage therapists I've ever had. I have sciatica and he knows exactly where to work and I leave feeling like a million bucks, butt pain a distant memory. Andy should be charging at least double for his magic and I always make sure that's reflected in my tips. The last time I was on his table I was trying to figure out how much money I should give him as a holiday bonus. I don't deserve him. Really wanted to like Fung Soong more than Delightful (and it is still indeed a notch above - which isn't saying much), but still the same problems persist. The place is noisy, the sheets/towels aren't clean, the massages are just average. And of course, tipping "only" 15% is considered "too small" and you will be verbally guilted into changing the tip amount on your receipt before you walk out. This is now my go to massage place. Keep in mind that I look for a certain kind of massage that isn't for everyone - affordable and deep tissue. I don't need the spa like experience and that's definitely not what you'll get here. This place is no frills. As other reviewers have mentioned, the location is on a busy street next to Bob's Donuts (this is a plus for me) and can get noisy. I went on a late afternoon when it wasn't loud outside but I could hear conversations from people walking by. The massage "rooms" in the front are separated by high curtains so you do have privacy but you can hear other people getting a massage. Unfortunately the gentleman near me was very talkative and kept trying to chat with his masseuse and tell her how good it was. I didn't mind his talking because my massage was fantastic. I had the male masseuse, I didn't get his name. I'm usually more comfortable with a female masseuse but after a long pandemic I had so many knots and would take whoever was available. He found all my tight knots and even found the sore muscles above my sacrum. He used the right amount of pressure. The next day I didn't have the feeling of soreness after a deep massage but I also didn't have anymore knots. I'm looking forward to coming back, next time I want a two hour massage. read more
