    Clean relaxing room

Unfortunately, my first experience here was really disappointing, which is a shame because I genuinely wanted to like this place, especially since it's so close to home. I had booked a couples massage as a birthday gift, and just a few hours after making the reservation, I received a text saying we needed to be moved to their sister location. Not a huge deal (it's only a few blocks down the street) but then they followed up asking if we were okay with one male and one female therapist (I had originally requested female therapists only). Still, I decided to roll with it. The day of the appointment, I got a text an hour before saying they were running late and asked if we could come 30 minutes later than originally scheduled. At this point, the back-and-forth was starting to get frustrating. Then, just minutes later, I got a phone call asking us to come 15 minutes earlier than originally planned and was told that now only male massage therapists were available. I was so confused, but I didn't want the stress to ruin the day, so I agreed and just hoped for the best. When we arrived, I asked again about the therapists, and the person at the front told me it would be one male and one female, which worked for us. But when it was time for the massage, two male therapists walked in. At that point, I was just tired of the constant miscommunication. To top it off, the massage itself was one of the worst I've ever had. I had requested a lighter touch due to soreness, then asked for slightly more pressure and the therapist went from barely-there to way too intense with no middle ground. It felt more painful than relaxing, and I left feeling worse, not better. Overall, they really need to get more organized. Booking a massage shouldn't be this stressful or confusing. Sadly, I won't be coming back which is such a bummer, especially since the location is so convenient.

I had my dental licensure exam the day before my massage. 7 hours killing my neck, back, and shoulders as I drilled on plastic teeth. My entire body was dead. Thankfully, my partner booked a 90 minute couple's massage for us so I could recuperate--$250 through Groupon, which is a steal in SF! Our appointment was 10 AM on a Sunday and parking was actually easy to find. The place is well-decorated and the staff is super nice. They offered us water and madeleines while we waited. The massage room itself is clean, with spa music playing in the background. The masseuse asked how much pressure I wanted and what areas to focus on. I asked for medium and to focus on my back. Within the first few minutes I asked her to go harder because I could feel how bad my knots were. I could tell that she was really focusing on the areas that needed the most work, instead of just going through the motions like many other massage places. I think she spent almost half the time on my back, ~20 minutes on the knots in my shoulder blades alone, which I desperately needed. The entire massage lasted a bit longer than 90 minutes. I've been to spas where they massage me too hard and I end up with bruises, while I've left others feeling like they barely massaged me. But my partner and I really enjoyed ourselves here and felt like we got our money's worth. If you go through Groupon, it's a really great deal! I've already recommended this place to my dental friends.

I had booked a massage at the hive and was asked if I wanted to check out their new location only a couple blocks away! I booked a 7:30pm deep tissue massage. They did a great job making sure I was comfortable with everything and asked where my focus areas were. Definitely worth checking out! They provide water and snacks while you wait.

Left bruises with funny towel wringing move.

Instead of deep tissue this should have been called elbow massage bc that's all she used. I booked with Hive massage down the street but then as other reviewers said got a text to go to this location. I didn't make a big deal of it since if it's same owner I was expecting same quality. I was very disappointed and would be surprised if the person has a license to massage. Asked for deep tissues with focus on back, neck hands and arms from computer use. but there was so much oil at first it was too slippery. After I said something she wiped it off and then gave me the weirdest massage. It was all over the place with nothing of what I asked for. She focused on my biceps and gave me like some painful towel wringing action and then didn't even touch the major muscles in the forearms that are most sore. So much force on biceps it gave me bruises. lol. I get deep tissue massages often. Elbows are used but not exclusively. Hands and thumbs are used to break up the knots. Some kind of rhythm and routine in a session also is a sign they are good. Trained masseuse asks you from the beginning if pressure is good and if you're comfortable through out especially if you voiced concern. They know how the muscles run in your body. To top it off, I came out smelling like dryer sheets. The scent was way too strong. Unfortunately won't be back here and won't be booking at Hive any more either.

Pros: Friendly, attentive staff- I was asked at the start of the massage how much pressure I wanted and she also checked in with me during the massage. Rooms are clean Decent pricing and they sometimes have specials on Groupon Cons: Walls are thin, you can hear eveything, people talking in the next room, and you can also hear traffic (cars, horns, sirens). Made it a little difficult to fully relax. They only have one small bathroom. On a busy day there could be a wait to use the bathroom.

When I sat down for the manicure and pedicure, I informed the person working on my toes that I tend to get ingrown nails. However, when she started trimming my big toe, she immediately cut too deeply into the side of the nail. It was very painful, and I said "ouch" right away. Her response was simply that she needed to cut my nails. I explained that it hurt and that I normally don't have issues during nail trimming, but she proceeded to do the same on the other toe. She did not apologize and then switched with another person to continue the service. I did appreciate the massage, which was done by someone else. Because of that, I still chose to tip, as I wanted to acknowledge the person who did the massage. When I got home, my big toe was still in pain, and I couldn't even wear closed-toe shoes. Additionally, my fingernails were poorly polished, which was disappointing. Unfortunately, despite the good massage, I would not return or recommend this place. I left with a painful toe injury, and overall, the experience did not meet expectations.

If you're getting the foot massage, make sure you wear bottoms that can be pulled up to your knees, because they also massage your calves. I didn't know this, but they had a pair of shorts I could change into, which was nice! If you are ticklish when getting a pedicure, this experience will be no different. I'm very ticklish during the foot scrubbing part and the scraping tool she used on the bottom of my feet felt good, but ticklish at the same time haha. Overall, it was a nice relaxing massage and my feet felt great afterwards. The street noise isn't that bad honestly, but if you're looking for a completely silent massage where you don't want to hear anyone else, then you'll need to go to a different business.

I got the 70-minute combo massage, which includes both foot and back treatment. This occurs in the shared community space with clothes on. I was the only one there on a Saturday late afternoon, no other customers present during my session, and I'm pretty sure my masseur (possibly the owner) was the only worker on site. He had his phone closeby during the massage, which he checked once when it beeped. But he ignored it the rest of the time. Soft music played in the background, but all of the sounds from the street outside and through the walls could still be heard. I didn't mind, cuz the massage was really good which is what matters most to me. My masseur had a unique method of applying pressure and strength, using mainly elbows and knees on my back. Be aware that the back massage was done over a fairly thick sheet/blanket, but the pressure was deep enough to be effective. He was thorough, especially on my legs and feet. Targeted my hamstrings, shins, and outer muscles of the legs which is where I needed it most. The fast rubbing made me a bit numb, but when he slowed down, I was on cloud nine. And he applied pressure to all the right parts of each foot, too. None of it was painful. It didn't feel rushed either, so this place gives a true "foot massage". The guy was friendly, and prefers cash payments, but I only had enough cash for a tip. I was able pay with a credit card for the massage itself, with an additional $2 fee for the charge.

The receptionist was very friendly and greeted as soon as I walked in. I selected the 60 minute massage therapy combo, which consisted of a 10 minute foot bath and 50 minute foot massage. Once I stepped in, I was greeted immediately by the receptionist. The front room was full of people getting pedicures. My masseur came and took me to a room at the back, where they directed me to sit in a chair with my feet propped. The massage started with a hot foot bath, and I was given an eye mask.
