Funky fish was a great fit for our family. We are a homeschooling family and always looking for enrichment activities for our boys (ages 4 & 6). While on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale at the Pelican Grand, we enrolled our boys in Funky Fish day camp for a day of our stay. The instructor taught the boys about local ocean life, utilizing a student-interest-led way of teaching. Then they went to the heated pool and learned how to snorkel. Once they knew how to snorkel, they headed to the ocean to combine their new snorkeling knowledge with their lesson on local ocean life. Snorkeling sessions were interlaced with body boarding and building sand castles. My kids loved it so much they didn't want to leave when it was over, and are still talking about the fish they learned about at camp. read more

I would give a half star if I would and would like to get my money ($225/ 3 kids) back! This camp came highly recommended by #Marriott and the website promises snorkeling (parents are encouraged to buy gears) and other fun activities in the water, but instead, my sons (aged 11, 8 and 7) played jenga, built a Christmas ornament and sandcastles and played a bit of soccer on the beach! The pool and ocean experience was minimal and their lunch provide by #Conrad was also inedible. Apart from the fact that the counselors were nice and kind, I have nothing good to say about this camp. Future camp parents, do not go by the website information and ask upfront what they are offering your camper. read more

My three kids just had the most amazing week! We are beyond thrilled with how organized and engaged the staff at Funky Fish are. Every day was an adventure, every day was about learning something new and making new friends. I received 60+ images of my kids enjoying themselves! Priceless memories if you ask me, plus great service! If your kids have ever been cranky about getting dropped off at a camp, or given you a hard time the night before, rest assured, none of that is happening when you send your kids to FF. This camp has zero communication - the website says it runs 363 days a year however I've been in town 7 nights and it hasn't run once. You can't book online. There's no voicemail when you call. Nobody returns emails. Does anyone in this city work? How is this even considered a kids club listing on hotel websites - extremely misleading and disappointing. Dumb read more

This amazing camp is THE entire reason that our 5 yr old daughter loves the ocean and can snorkel like a pro. Living in Ft. Lauderdale and traveling often to the Keys, we were anxious to get her comfortable in the water and snorkeling with us. We had tried for a couple years but were unsuccessful. But one week at Funky Fish and she is now totally independent with getting her own gear on! And she no longer fears the oceans or the waves and loves the beach! THANK YOU, Funky Fish!!!! read more

We were visiting from Washington DC area for work + leisure and found this incredible and a destination fun camp for our 9 year old. Our daughter was enrolled at the week long camp in Pompano beach and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it! Sarah, the camp director and the mastermind, has completely nailed this one! Its so perfect that it just can't get any better.... but somehow Sarah has managed that mojo and betters it every day!!! The activities are so meticulously planned and efficiently executed... that everyday is a different and more fun-er from the previous. Our daughter, Sammy totally looked forward to each day while at the camp, where she was snorkeling & bogey boarding each day and coupling those with social sit down activities like hemp jewelry creating, tie-dye-ing and on and on and on... The highlight of the camp was snorkeling over a shallow reef and a sunken ship on the last day. The fun never ends at this address, so much so, our daughter is already making scrap book plans to visit v v soon. The operational staff is incredibly personable, friendly, super-cool and definitely kids-whisperers! They just get it!!! This camp has been full of friendly smiles, unlimited joy, laughter and much more. We totally will come to florida for funky fish camp, its so good! read more

July 25-29, daily fun with Funky Fish Ocean Day Camp @ Bahia Mar... Cannot say enough about the experiences my 5 year old son Quinn was introduced to, even though we're FL residents, we get caught up in school, and the everyday. THANK U Funky Fish for bringing us "back to the beach," & out of the skim-boarding, boogie-boarding, ocean arts & crafts & facts he learned, he's come away with this HUGE love & fascination w/ snorkeling... The counselors Victoria & Kyra, & Andrew were outstanding Ginger & Sonny only w/ us for a few days were helpful too. ----I think a smaller crowd & more individualized attention is always better, especially with the 4-6 year olds, instead of mixing the group w/ the older kids, but I was told by the head of Funky Fish, Sara, that it "just depends on the week & the luck of the draw." ??? ----I would SECURE how large a group your child is in before committing. Still, for the beach experience it promises, Funky Fish DELIVERS, safety-first, & with SO MUCH sunscreen & HYDRATION. ----------Wonderful habits to instill & very necessary. Excellent camp- I would also suggest doing the full 5 days w/ the parent & child boat snorkeling trip on the last day- TIP: sign up for the boat w/ your child & WHOEVER else u want to bring by MONDAY of the wk your child's camp begins- if not sooner, like immediately when u register. We enrolled our 5 year old son Heston in the week-long camp in Pompano Beach and he loved every minute. He came home every day so excited about what he learned- snorkeling, skim boarding, wake boarding. He really bonded with instructor Ally and was so sad to say goodbye at the end of the week. Today I waved goodbye at the dock as my 5 year old went off on an ocean o trip with the other campers, Miss Ally, and the other instructors. I had 100% confidence in the skills they had taught him and that he would be safe in that huge ocean without me When he got back he said he would teach me how to snorkel like Miss Ally taught him :) read more

Disorganized. and Super Overpriced for a day at the beach. I chose funky fish over other camps because they claim to teach about the ocean and beach ecosystem, but every time I walked by it seems the instructors were just letting the kids do whatever they wanted. I should have known. At the beginning of the day when I dropped my kid off, the "instructor" was very tired and looked like she didn't want to be there, and when I asked her how she was, she acted like she was hung-over! This did anything but ease my mind and I felt compelled to keep "checking up" on the kids throughout the day instead of relaxing. I walked by and they had their backs turned to kids and were just talking amongst themselves while four-year olds were in the water. Save yourself the 60 bucks and just take your kid to the beach and let them play in the sand/water for a few hours. read more

Great counselors! My kids enjoyed their week at Funky Fish but the camp is definitely geared towards younger children. It is advertised for all ages but I would recommend it for ages 10 and under. Also, I was glad I went on last day snorkeling trip. I had assumed that with that many very small children snorkel vests with straps would be provided but each child was given a swim noodle. read more

We love Funky Fish! My daughter has been going since she was 4 year. The owner was very understanding and allowed her to start by going for 1/2 day and found it wasn't enough time for her. Since that day, she goes for the entire day usually 2 to 3 days. Initially, she was also very shy but the instructors are great, they are very knowledgable, engaging & helpful. She's older now but still loves going to a Funky Fish. We can't wait to bring her back for all the fun activities, read more

Id like to preface this with the fact that we are not visitors, we live here in Florida and my children live on the beach. I have attempted this camp three times. First time was at Bahia Mar. As I drove to pick my son up he was eating a candy cane that was the size of his head. I was not happy, but ok, whatever. The second time I sent both my boys to the Conrad. When I picked them up, both seemed unhappy, were starving, and could not tell me anything exciting about the day. But of course they had their (third) tye dye shirt with them (eye roll).. that's the arts and crafts part by the way. So, my oldest son ended up having a fever, glad someone called me, and my youngest seemed unhappy so I called and spoke to the director. She explained to me that he had to be redirected throughout the day and ran off on the beach and counselor had to run after him. She followed by saying "we aren't babysitters". Oh, Im sorry, does my $90 for a 5 hour day (which is ridiculous!) not include running after my child if need be? I should have known that the counselors wouldn't be up for the job when I dropped my children off - they range from 18-22, look hungover and like they'd rather be anywhere but there. So, I guess if you're sending your kids here that at least you get your money's worth!! read more
