It's very rare if i don't hit the funnel cake stall when I go to Santa Cruz beach boardwalk. My favorite is the apple pie funnel: cinnamon sugar, apple, caramel and whip cream! They make them fresh. It's still warm when they add the toppings. Sometimes, it's perfect, crisp and fresh. Sometimes, it needs to be cooked just a little bit more or it's cooked just a little bit too long. But, their funnel cakes are much better than Disneyland's and Great America. Original is good too. Strawberry not too bad. It's always best when you share.

Definitely a boardwalk classic! We got the special of the day funnel cake and the Oreo funnel cake. They are extremely sweet, but so good! The vanilla ice cream is what pulls it all together. Out of the two funnel cakes, Oreo was definitely my favorite, as the Oreos added more texture and it paired well with the caramel. Prices are on the higher end, but it's expected at the boardwalk. With no line, it took about 10 minutes for the two funnel cakes to come out.

This past weekend, we got the Strawberry funnel cake with no whip cream, and added chocolate sauce (which was not on the listed menu, but obviously a must-have). Short line in the evening, went quickly. Standard service at the order counter and pick up window. Several tables and seating on both sides of the food stand (though it's even better enjoying these treats on the actual beach). The funnel cake had a nice crunch on the outside, warm and airy on the inside, the toppings adding the perfect sweetness and combination of flavors. I've never had a bad experience here. My guilty pleasure at the Boardwalk. Yummm!! :)

My wife loves funnel cake and finally gave in and used a cheat meal as an excuse to enjoy this carnival and amusement park staple. I told her to ask them to make it smaller and we would pay the same because the normal size is too big for the amount our family eats. The first warning sign should have been the funnel cakes were pre made and sitting in a case under a heat lamp. When we ordered they took it out of the case, sprinkled powdered sugar on it, spray whip cream on, and jammed two forks into it. The cake itself was not good, it was soft and soggy, like a plain donut that was wet and didn't have any of the expected crunchy shell we were looking for. The kids don't normally get a lot of sugar and will eat it like crazy but they also had a couple bites and didn't want anymore. We ended up throwing about 75% of it away and we hate wasting food.

All I Gotta say is we just went here for the giant dipper and that's it and yet my nephew wanted to shake it took the longest time people went before after us so much, and got their food. The place was so unprofessional and I literally think to myself and I thought when I was standing there, shouldn't these people been wearing hair? That's their hair is so long. I am so thankful that no one got a hair in their food. Otherwise I was gonna straight up make a big fit

I've been craving a funnel cake for days and finally got one! The boardwalk right now is open Thur-Sun. I went around 1:30 and holy cow, super busy. It's last day for schools so they're doing their end of year celebration. Even with how busy it was, the service from the staff was good. They all had masks and were very polite when I was ordering. The funnel cake I got is an Oreo one and holy cowwwwww, so so good! The one thing I regret is not having added the ice cream scoop as it would've made it even more delicious! Highly recommend if you're craving something sweet and sugary

It's great but it tastes like guilt because of the calories hahaha we had the strawberry one. The line actually moved faster than we thought. There might be a little too much cream but it is a good dessert to share on the boardwalk.

Came on a Saturday and there was a good amount of people at the beach. Line to order took about 10-15 mins and another 10 mins until our funnel cake was ready. Got the strawberry chocolate funnel cake with vanilla ice cream and it was so good! Funnel cake was crunchy, strawberries were sweet, together with the whipped cream, chocolate drizzle and ice cream made everything come together perfectly

When my boyfriend and I walked in, one of the employees was having a conversation with what looked like friends. I didn't mind at first because there were two other employees standing at the front, so I assumed one of them would help us. Instead, we stood there for several minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I understand if the other employees weren't assigned to the register, but what bothered me was that no one even took a second to say, "We'll be with you shortly." A simple acknowledgment goes a long way and would have made a big difference. The lack of customer service and communication made us feel ignored so we just ended up leaving and went some place else. As someone who has supported this business for a long time, it was disappointing. I hope management addresses this because good customer service is just as important as the product itself.

It starts by them using quality ingredients. They use Marianne's vanilla ice cream, and Valrhona chocolate (a French chocolate used by gourmet chefs). You can choose milk chocolate or dark. They have a bunch of options for what you can include in your bar, including chopped almonds, caramel, and marshmallow. My favorite is #4: dark chocolate with caramel and marshmallow. It is insanely good. After each bite I am thinking "oh my god this is good." Frankly I am glad it is in Santa Cruz (and not in my town) or I might be 50 lbs heavier. I just had one yesterday and the experience is still vivid. Oh, and their chocolates (which also use Valrhona chocolate) are also damn good. And if you like brownies they've got you covered too. The guys running this place could not be nicer, which makes this place a joy to visit. This is really an exceptional place to come to and we are lucky to have it in our area. I am now a regular almost every time I am in Santa Cruz (and I come here often).

They were open but I think items were limited at the time and we were still masked up. My experience then was less than stellar but honestly, I think we were all still on edge. For this visit, we stopped in before heading home to pick up some pastries for a light breakfast. It was around 10 am and it was bustling. Clearly it is a popular spot but the line moved fast. We ordered ham and cheese croissants, an almond croissant, cinnamon roll with raisins (you can get them without as well) and an apricot pocket. Everything we tried was delicious and I mean DELICIOUS. The pastries were buttery and flaky and I am craving another almond croissant as I write this, lol. We didn't want to order any hot food since we were about to hit the road but they also sell breakfast sandwiches and burritos and it smelled heavenly in there. It is a little cramped with a few small tables but there is also a patio with a kind of wild garden which was very charming. I can 100% see this being a must stop for us whenever we visit Santa Cruz!

Got the chiffon marionberry and lemon curd at almost a whopping $5 a cupcake. The whole cakes in the display case looked nice, but the cupcakes sure did not. I was hesitant when I saw their raggedy appearance (I photographed the best side!), but was hopeful the taste would blow it out of the water so much I wouldn't care what it looked like. So, both cupcakes were light, but dry...the marionberry moreso than the lemon curd. The marionberry also had buttercream, which we both don't care for, which of course, is a personal preference. Glad we tried before we committed to a whole wedding cake.

I spent $43.49 on donuts and even left a $5 tip, expecting at least courteous customer service. Instead, I was met with a rude, impatient, and dismissive cashier. From the moment we walked in, she was rushing us while we were still trying to decide what to order. Her attitude was cold, snooty, and made us feel like we were inconveniencing her simply by being customers. After paying, I immediately tried one of the old-fashioned donuts while still inside the store. It was stale. I politely returned to the counter and asked if I could exchange it for a fresh one. The cashier immediately said "No." She insisted the donut was fresh and claimed her boss wouldn't allow her to exchange it because she could lose her minimum-wage job. There was no apology, no effort to inspect the donut, no willingness to make things right, and absolutely no concern for customer satisfaction. Think about that for a moment. I had just spent $43.49, left a $5 tip, and they refused to replace one stale donut that I had purchased just moments earlier. The issue wasn't the value of a single donut--it was the complete lack of customer service. A business that won't stand behind the freshness of its own products and treats paying customers this way won't be getting my business again. The stale donut left a bad taste in my mouth. The customer service left an even worse one. I hope management reviews who was working the register on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at approximately 8:25 PM, because this interaction reflected very poorly on Ferrell's Donuts.
