We got exposed to Beckmann via a small sample of the blueberry pie at the Mountain View farmers market. It is probably one of the best bites I've ever had in terms of pie. You can taste natural blueberry and it wasn't overly sweet. It was perfect. The crust was flaky. We ended up getting a strawberry rhubarb pie because my daughter absolutely loves tart pies. Heat it up and it's amazing. this has been one of the best finds for us because we love pie, but what holds us back generally is how sweet it is and the lack of fruit. That's not the issue here at Beckmann. They have the magical pie formula down. I don't think we can go back to any other pies. It has ruined all others for us. Please come and create your own adventure

Wow! This review is long overdue. Beckmann's makes THE BEST pies. Their crust sets them apart from all others. It's buttery, flaky and holds up to any filling. Their pies freeze beautifully and bake perfectly from frozen. My favorites are the apple, cherry, berry bomb and pecan. There's a new chocolate pecan pie that I picked up from the farmers market and I can't wait to try.

Most of Beckmann's items tend to the sweeter side like banana bread, pumpkin pie, apple pie, cinnamon roll, etc. Boysenberry Pie was recommended to me as more tangy but not without sweetness. Boysenberries themselves are considered to be more delicate than their berry counterparts. While not a big berry pie or pie person myself I found it fresh and tastier than blueberry/strawberry pies.

I tried this place for the first time at the Saturday farmers market at Cabrillo College. Every week when I pass by, the man offers me a sample of blueberry pie, and he is always incredibly kind and generous. This week, he offered me both blueberry pie and an almond bear claw after I asked to try the bear claw. He gave me half a bear claw to sample, which was so generous. The bear claw was to die for. He also had a great sense of humor. He joked that if you try to fight a bear with one of the bear claws and lose, it is money back guaranteed. That little moment brought everything to life. I loved the vibe! He even let me try some cookies. Usually, we are not easy to convince from samples, but we ended up leaving with several bear claws. I truly appreciated his kindness, his smile, and, of course, the delicious food. Highly recommend.

Delicious, delicious pies! Hailed from Santa Cruz, CA, Beckmann's is a bakery without a retail storefront. Several of my friends have been raving about their pies for years. I finally got a chance to try them out recently and I must say, they were right! The two pies I had were the Berry Bomb and traditional apple. The crust was simply amazing - flaky and buttery with a beautiful golden brown color. The filling of the Berry Bomb, made with four different types of berries, had a balanced sweet and tart taste. The apple pie filling was not overly sweet and had some texture in it. Both were very enjoyable. Prices were reasonable. The Berry Bomb was $24 and the apple one was $22. You can order them on their website (https://beckmannsbakery.com/). They are also available in many Bay Area farmers markets and selected Safeway stores. Other baked goods are available as well. If you are a pie fan, give them a try!

Mint sweet wrapper found in cherry turnover !

Picture this, Friday @ the farmers market in Monterey (Munras Shopping mall), my wife and I were picking up our weekly fruit and veggies and spotted the Beckmann's stall... nicely packaged up were cherry turnovers and my wife was all over this with 'OMG that will go great with a coffee and their sealed so nobody will have coughed on them', so we purchased and rushed home with our spoils. Well we got them back, fired up the coffee machine and paired them with a Lavazza latte... Life is good. So I'm 3/4 of the way through and struggle to chomp through what I think is a hard piece of pastry..more chewing and still no resolve, more chewing and I get a mint flavor in my mouth ! I spit what's causing the challenge into my hand and find to my horror its a foil mint sweet wrapper ! I'm fearfully now thinking... was this just a wrapper or was this a wrapper that had a chewed sweet inside it and was dropped in the mixer ! I don't show my wife as I didn't want her freaking out... I immediately wrote to Beckmanns and inform them of this suggesting incident, that I have a photo and asked what they would like to do about it and sadly I haven't even heard back from them ! I have now courtseoulsy left it 4 days in case they were slow to respond but this is obviously not the case and their preference was to ignore and hope it blew over !... Sorry Beckmanns... here's your review on what for me has to be the grossest moment since I found half eaten wasp in a donut when I was 7.... - So was it just a wrapper ? - Was it a sweet with a Wrapper ? - Was it deliberate ? - Did Beckmann's actually investigate it at all ? - Why did Beckmanns not respond to me ? For me its not a screw up that makes a companies brand but their resolve With no repsonse or acknowledgment, I can only write this review and hope it was taken seriously and there are not others out there about to enjoy a chewed sweet in their pastry or bread... I'm boycotting their products now out of principle, a shame but a shameful level of customer service and quality control !

Only found out about them from DT Campbell's Farmers Market. Their baked good did not disappoint, i'm a fan! Perfectly balanced, not overwhelmingly sweet/salty- depending on whatever it is you choose!

The strawberry rhubarb pie was a little too sweet, but the crust was incredibly flaky and buttery, absolutely loved it. Would order again.

Ask the Community - Beckmann's Old World Bakery

What farmers market in San Jose do they sell bread/pies regularly?

I can personally confirm that they are at Evergreen Square on Sunday mornings. But their website has a full listing - including the days/time they are there!

Went to try those viral fruit shaped desserts, and they're actually pretty good. So good we went…read moreback a second time. They ARE pricy though so just be aware. So far Mango is the best flavor we tried. Banana was good but it is a little small. Strawberry was good. Passionfruit was too sour for us. Blueberry was good but not my mothers favorite. Raspberry was a little on the sour side as well. The man behind the counter was very friendly, if its your first time and you like sweets probably get the mango, banana, strawberry and blueberry. We didn't get the coconut because that also has passionfruit inside which was sour. Nor any of the more dense choco or PB flavor ones.

Had a chance to finally try Sugar Bakery after seeing all the hoopla on instagram. I mean who…read moredoesnt want to try those viral crunchy desserts, bc I do! Glad we were in Santa Cruz so we got to try it out. This is a very cute pastry shop, small but very inviting. The service is fast here and there are a few seats inside to sit if needed. For the desserts, I tried the Mango and Pistachio. The mango was very yummy and tasted like a real mango, I loved that there was fresh chunks of mango inside! My favorite though was the Pistachio, if you like pistachio, you will LOVE this. It has a nice crunchy piece inside that I loved and the pistachio cream is spot on. I loved that there were pops of raspberry in there for tart, all the flavors came together perfectly. Would love to go back and try one of the assortment boxes next time!
