LONG STORY SHORT: If you're adopting an animal in Minnesota, I really encourage you to adopt animals anywhere else and NOT at Furever Home Rescue or at least be wary of adopting here! Normally I would never post negative experiences that I've had with businesses because I completely understand that people have bad days, but I have had a consistently terrible experience with Furever Home Rescue Minnesota.
They do not allow people to leave reviews on their page "because they don't care" said the owner. I recently left a comment on a post on their page and received a call from Tania R., the owner of Furever Home Rescue after posting to chastise me.
"ATTENTION: PLEASE BE WARY! THERE ARE PLENTY OF AMAZING ORGANIZATIONS THAT HANDLE THE ADOPTION PROCESS MUCH BETTER THAN FUREVER HOME RESCUE.
Here is my experience with this company and the heartbreaking process we've gone through during this past week: I have had the WORST experience with this organization and highly encourage potential adopters to look elsewhere or at least be wary!!
My family and I have been looking to adopt another cat for awhile. So when we found Duchess on Furever Home Rescue's site, we were ecstatic and reached out to make sure there were no other pending adoptions and to get more information about the cat. I was told by Rosie V. that there were no other applicants and that I would need to apply to more forward with the review. She did not respond to my questions about the cat. (I asked multiple times throughout the application process for more information about Duchess, but did not receive that information until I was already at the Meet and Greet).
I applied that night and soon received word that my Home Visit and application were approved and that I would be able to meet Duchess. A few days later however, Furever Home Rescue notified us that they were going to allow another applicant to meet her as well and that the team would decide who would be the best fit for her. This made me panic because I am not a sales person and I don't know how to do a sales pitch in order to convince people that I am a better fit than another applicant (even though I'm sure both homes would be deserving of Duchess).
I emailed to ask what the criteria were for the team to decide if it wasn't the person who had applied first. Received no response from Rosie V. We had assumed we applied first, as I had emailed to ask if there were other pending applicants to which they said there were not.
Eventually, we were contacted by the foster and drove an hour north to meet Duchess. We instantly loved her. However, it was a difficult meeting because the foster's son was very excited and he unintentionally scared Duchess, so most of the meeting was spent trying to find her throughout the house. We were the first meeting, so I'm sure all the kinks were worked out for a better meeting with the other applicant.
Today, we received word that Duchess was offered to the other applicant because she had applied slightly before us.. This comes as a shock because we were left wondering we were allowed to do a Meet and Greet if we had not applied first. The whole process was heartbreaking because I had gotten my hopes up because I thought we had found the perfect cat. If the decision was based SOLELY on who applied first, then why was I not notified right away that someone had applied before me?!
Why did we need to go through the whole process, drive an hour and back, meet the cat and then be told it would be given to who applied first? It seems we did not even have a chance at adopting this cat.
It is a cruel thing to tell someone that there are no pending applicants, then to have them go through the whole process to not receive a cat.
I am really discouraged about finding another Munchkin, as they are so rare.. My family and I would prefer to adopt over purchasing a cat from a store or breeder, but there are currently no munchkins in the surrounding area. This process has really left me disappointed and very apprehensive about continuing our search for a second cat."
This post was meant to explain the frustration I had throughout the process with the company. Today, I received a call from the owner stating that it was inappropriate of me to leave a review because I should have contacted management, while I agree that I could have handled it better, it seems like the general population is allowed to leave their feedback, which is why sites like Yelp exist.
Second, the owner stated that I was blaming a special needs child. Yes, he was excited, but I 100% would never blame a child, any child, for the way a business runs or does their processes. Any kid in this situation, special needs or otherwise, would be excited and unintentionally excite the cat.
I just wanted to put this out there because apparently if you leave a bad review about this company they will delete your negative review, call you to harass you and accuse you of blaming children for the way they run their business. read more
