Starting with the positive, the eventual finished product was satisfactory. We asked Rex to refinish a large dining room table that had been damaged by nail polish remover. The table we got back looked good, though there is one 2" spot on the table where the stain blotted. Imperfect, but much better than it looked before, and at half the price of other shops we contacted. The negative was the job was promised in 3 weeks and took 6 weeks to complete, which Rex blamed on warm weather. This wouldn't have been so terrible had Rex's communication during this time been better. It was almost nonexistent. I never received a single proactive update from Rex. I left repeated messages, eventually escalating to a message every day asking for an update. I finally got a call back after threatening to call the police and report our table as stolen. Rex does decent work and is a nice enough guy, but needs to dramatically improve how he communicates and manages customer expectations. read more

Rex charged me $575 to refinish a Mid Century Modern credenza. While the top, sides, and drawer fronts look great, all in all he did a low quality job with little attention to detail. Four areas are in worse condition than they were before I took it in to him. After looking at a photo of when I went to see the piece stripped I believe part of the problem was that he didn't completely strip all of the finish off of part of the left front leg and the apron. The stain on three distinct areas are inconsistent with the rest of the piece and one inside edge of the outer box frame appears (I don't know how else to describe it), but charred black. He sanded the recessed insets for the hardware on the drawer fronts, but did a sloppy job applying the stain. It would have been better if he would have just left those areas be. When I went to pick up the piece I phoned ahead to tell him that I was running late. When I got there he quickly loaded it into my car without giving me any opportunity to look it over. Once it was in my car I happened to notice that one area looked like it didn't have enough stain on it. He told me it was just dusty from sitting in his garage. I told him I didn't think so to which he said "I've got a customer coming." He then went and got some wood polish conditioner and rubbed it on the area, and again said, "I have a customer coming." I partly blame myself for not insisting that he meet with his customer and then address my concerns (after all I was his customer also), but at that point I didn't have any idea of how bad a job he had done. Instead I took the piece home only to discover all these issues. I texted Rex photos and asked him what could be done and never heard back from him. It is upsetting that I paid a significant sum (more than what I originally paid for the credenza) to someone I thought would do a professional job and now I am left with something I have to either try to fix myself by sanding and re-staining three separate areas or take the piece to someone else and spend even more money on it. Not only was the work substandard, but he showed no interest in making sure I was satisfied with the end result. I don't see anyway he wasn't aware of the problems and have to wonder if the reason he was so intent to rush me out of there had more to do with the poor job he knew he had done than "his customer" who was on the way. I would definitely not recommend this business, but if you decide to have him refinish something for you make sure that you look the piece over and insist that he address your concerns before paying. I was extremely disappointed with the repair furniture rescuers did to my dinning room table. When they came to assess the damage and give me an estimate they seemed very confident that they could fix it, and leave it as new with no hesitations. When they brought it back after it was repaired, the quality of their work was sloppy and the final finish they gave to the table made it look as if it belonged in a barn and not in my formal dinning room. When I pointed out to them that the sides of the table had particles stuck to it because they probably did not let it dry well during the varnishing process, he felt wiping it with furniture cleaner was the only solution. They may be good for distressed look furniture repair but avoid giving them any high end pieces or you will be as sorry as I am to have entrusted them with work that was well above their capability. read more
