They will do landscape design which will cost about $500. That money will be given back as a gift…read morecard. Sounds like an OK deal except that their designing is no designing. I had Nick over and the first thing he asked me was "What do you want to do." I told him some ideas I had and he said that is what he would do. He said he would put a tall plant here and some short ones there. Why would I agree to be locked into their high prices when I am obviously doing the designing myself? I sent him on his way because it was pointless to take advantage of the "design" service. I was very excited about getting some design help but now I am very disappointed.

I have enjoyed walking this Garden Center in Darboy for 3 seasons now. My focus is on the trees,…read moreTheir cultural habits and so, their health, is very fine. Shade trees sold well for them this year. The trees' relative placements caught my eye. When the Garden Center is in full bloom, both the displays, and knowledge of staff, of the annual & perennial selections are impressive. Good street side 'curb appeal' renovation of Garden Center. My sister, a lifelong resident here, says that Schmalz' is the only place in the Valley where the annuals still look good at the end of their season. If it's higher in price, you will still get what you pay for. Schmaltz also has a vigorous Landscaping business. I have only seen one site of theirs, but I have seen many of their trucks at the Garden Center! That site is The Houdini Plaza in downtown Appleton. Nice use of curves, as appears to be the case throughout Appleton. Interesting choices of trees. Good blocks of evergreens for the winter, and trees whose leaves are falling now for the summer. There are Sycamores! They take a long time to mature, and are not often planted. They are placed right next to the annual variegated Spider plants used quite effectively as a massed bedding plant.at this year. My critique? The same as what I heard at the other Garden Center I worked a this year. The price. And what do you get for it? Here, you get clean, you get variety, you get help. Perhaps on the down side is the emphasis on 'product', such as root simulator or fertilizer, by placing it right next to the Easy Elegance roses, which are supposedly known for not needing this much life support. Why not place garden hoses next to half of your stock instead, in order to suggestively sell? Just sayin'. Me, I have walked through this place many times this year, with coffee cup in hand. It has been such a pleasure.

Didn't say anything as I complemented the store, didn't say anything while I made my purchase. I went back the next day to exchange a shirt and I asked the lady for an extra bag and told her I'd pay for it if it wasn't free and she made a big deal about it. Then she threw the bag at me after I purchased the other shirt. I will never spend my hard earned money there EVER again.

As a first time shopper, I asked about the return policy and was told it could be returned for in-store credit. The sleeves proved too short, so I tried to return the purchase today. Initially the cashier said there was a 10 day return policy on clothing and refused the return. I explained the information I had been given, but since it was seasonal, she would only make an exception to exchange it for the same clothing item. She referred me to the back of the price tag, which does explain the policy; but what I was verbally told was different. Well, a larger size doesn't have longer sleeves, but since I had no alternative, I made an exchange. I said that as a first time shopper, it didn't give me a good impression of the store. Nothing more was said. (BTW, the item is now on sale for 20% off vs my 10% discount. Bottom line, I thought this might become a store I would shop frequently, but now I will not return. I try to shop local, but with policies like this, it's no wonder larger stores are winning the retail race.

Contracts to install items do not supposedly include appropriate functional installation and they will add on additional unreasonable billing to make additional money rather than stand behind their work. Specifically I paid them over 1000 dollars in labor alone just to install new bunks, motors (which didn't even include 800 dollars in separate subcontracted electrical work which was only revealed at the last minute prior to contract signing), cables for an existing boat lift. To me that implies the install will work appropriately; the contract did not specify workmanship and functional outcomes are not guaranteed; only stated settling of structures would not be covered. The bunks were not centered between the guideposts so whenever we lifted the boat it nearly tipped and risked damaging the boat. I contacted them and was told the bunks were not correctly spaced and they would come fix it, but was never told I would be charged again. Once again, in my mind this bunk adjustment is part of an appropriate install. If I knew I would be charged again I would have either found a different contractor or ensured we agreed upon pricing/rates prior to the work. Their repair team came and admitted the bunks weren't placed properly; that the boat wouldn't lift appropriately because the bunks were not centered correctly upon first install; and they spent approximately 4 hours to just get the bunks centered (which should at most take 1-2 hours, if that). I then received a bill for over 800 dollars to adjust the bunks despite already paying for proper installation, which was never done correctly to begin with. Happy to discuss further with any interested parties to give full disclosure and other details. They have somewhat of a monopoly on boat lift work in the Fox valley and will treat you with that monopoly in mind. Steer clear if possible.
