This was totally unacceptable so we called a local contractor Rick Ogden HVAC who had previously worked on a past HVAC issue in our home.. They responded immediately with a service call to diagnose problem and confirmed the heat exchanger on our 20+ year old furnace had failed. They provided a very competitive quote on a very High Efficiency furnace, picked it up that day, and more importantly, installed it the next day in the AM. We did not have to leave our home during this record cold spell and we are extremely grateful to Rick and his team for the quick response and keeping us safe and comfortable. They also provided answers to our questions and made appropriate follow up visits to make sure all was running as it should be. When they advertise 24 hr emergency service , they mean it. I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.

This was supported by a live walkthrough for me to view what the repair person was talking about. The same afternoon (!) options were presented for replacement and a choice was made. An appointment was made and several days later the old furnace was taken out and a new furnace was installed in less than 4 hours. Everyone involved was extremely helpful and courteous. Bottom line: price quoted and installation met with no surprises. Clean space left with all old items and leftover stuff removed. Several weeks later, I remain completely satisfied with the job and would happily recommend this company based on my experience. I will continue to use them in the future.

I have been using this company owned by Mike Luken , since before the blizzard . Mike is amazing …read more He's a brilliant , sweet , caring honest man . He listens to me when I tell him something is going on with our furnace and what I have noticed . He's been cleaning up a mess that the company I used for years created and charged me an arm and a leg for - including an intermittent gas leak coming from inside the furance because the parts were not tightened enough . I had the 1st. company come out and the guy said there was no gas leak ( but he didn't even use a gas sniffer to check it ) . But then he wants to add more duct to my duct work . At that point I was done with that company . I contacted Mike the day of the blizzard because the temperature totally dropped in our house . I thought he'd come out the next day . Turns out he came that day during the blizzard . Turns out the other company guy disconnected the 2nd, stage boost to the heat . Mike figured it out right away - fixed it and we had heat again . HE is the BEST .

Every one of them said it was at the end of its useful life then pushed us on replacing it. Some even went so far as to tell us multiple components were shot and would have to be replaced to get it to work again. In a last effort before dropping thousands we called Mike at American Integrity (based off his reviews) and it was the best decision we made! He arrived on time to look at it, and within an hour he had the system up and running ... and charged us FAR less than we were expecting. He didn't have to replace any part and we were SO grateful because that night it dropped into the single digits and our pipes could have easily froze. He even called the next day to see how it was working (who even does that any more?) and helped us fine tune the temperature! His customer service is incredible!! He is not a big company with a lots of overhead. It is just him so you know who you are dealing with; he is fair, honest and REALLY has the experience to help you. He is our goto now until we move or he decides to retire or do something else. THANKS Mike!

McNess came the next day, identified the problem and FIXED IT the same day. He was professional and very respectful. He also informed me that the other company set up a single stage thermostat that would never allow us to use both stages of our heat.
