AC went out at 5pm on Thursday and Hill-Air gave me the option to come out that night (double time rate) or the next morning at standard rate.

I was charge $1400 to have my sump pump replaced (a 20 min job). When the technician was at my…read morehouse he mentioned the total charge as I had not received a quote from the company. I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Best, Garrett Sowers Customer Relations Specialist Five Star Home Services (614) 245-3954 garrett.sowers@fivestargroup.com ---- My response to his: You charge $400 for a one-year workmanship warranty??? That is literally the cost of a brand new pump!! I'm not sure how that doesn't sound ridiculous to you! I also pay the $40 monthly "membership" but there doesn't seem to be much benefit in that either. It just seems unusual that a company refuses to provide an itemized invoice for work performed. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.

It's gone out once a year (3 times now) since install. So far about 1k out of pocket for labor repairs for a "loose wire" .... The last time the tech did the wire repair, and charged 600 without authorizing the repair first, it's already fixed, here's the bill..... As soon as you get a service you get an automated text from the owner, saying please call if you have any questions or concerns.... Well this time I did, so I called, after 2 weeks of calling I finally got him on the phone. Basically said, "Hmmmn that does seem unusual, and the repair cost sounds way too high. Let me touch base with the tech and find out a little more info, then I'll call you back and try to figure it out from there. If nothing else, you were probably overcharged and we'll refund the difference." Well that was November, so I'm not thinking he'll be calling back... On top of that, I just went to check my filter to replace it..... the tech put it in backwards, it was about folded in half from trying to pass air through the wrong way this whole. May explain why our air flow seemed a little weak and our electric bill jumped 40%.... I would have kept on preaching on how good this company..... but no more..... STAY CLEAR!!!! Installation experience is questionable and the owner clearly gives two cents when there's an issue.

I called the support line a little after 7 am and talked with an AI representative. I gave the information requested and a service visit was made for the same day. Unfortunately, the scheduled visit was between 12 pm and 2 pm so I had to call in to miss a day of work. The representative came a few minutes earlier than expected. He worked on the furnace, charged me $186, and then left. The fan was running now so I expected the house to start heating up soon. However, I was bitterly disappointed. When I awoke the next morning, the house was colder than the day before. The furnace was circulating air, but there was no heat and the house was colder than the previous morning. I called again and explained the situation. They made another service call, but was again for later in the day, and I had to call in to miss work a second day in a row. The good news is that the second technician that came out was a senior technician and knew his stuff. He also arrived about an hour and a half earlier than expected and I was glad to see him when he arrived. He got the furnace to work and the house was starting to heat up before he left. He explained exactly what the problem was and what he did to correct it. Since the last visit, the furnace has worked great and I have seen no further problems. Had I had the senior technician on the first visit, this review would have been a five-start review instead of three. T&G has some great technicians, but you do not get them unless the first visit is a bust. I would be a lot happier if they sent the senior technicians on the first trip to work on my finnicky furnace. I have not yet had a regular tech work on my furnace and fix the problem on the first visit. However, when the senior tech comes out, the problem always gets fixed.
