AC went out at 5pm on Thursday and Hill-Air gave me the option to come out that night (double time rate) or the next morning at standard rate.

I was charge $1400 to have my sump pump replaced (a 20 min job). When the technician was at my…read morehouse he mentioned the total charge as I had not received a quote from the company. I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Best, Garrett Sowers Customer Relations Specialist Five Star Home Services (614) 245-3954 garrett.sowers@fivestargroup.com ---- My response to his: You charge $400 for a one-year workmanship warranty??? That is literally the cost of a brand new pump!! I'm not sure how that doesn't sound ridiculous to you! I also pay the $40 monthly "membership" but there doesn't seem to be much benefit in that either. It just seems unusual that a company refuses to provide an itemized invoice for work performed. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.

The problem- They should not be touching Daikin systems. They don't like them and they aren't trained properly on how to fix them. After three weeks and at least 15 hours trying to fix unit they said it was the compressor ($3k). We decided to get a second opinion while waiting on said compressor and found a company that installs and fixes this brand. They said it was not the compressor and that the first thing they should've done is noticed the thermostat, which is the "brain" of these systems hadn't been updated in 3 years. I'm giving two stars for effort. I also take some responsibly for hiring them in the first place. I did not understanding the complexity of the Ac unit in the house I bought and did not realize I had to update it, etc. If you have a simple problem on a brand they install try them out. Also, do not buy a Daikin.

They settled on $900 for a "pressure valve" and "thermal tank" and 1 (one hour) of work. 1st result on homedepot.com for a new hot water heater 07/11/26 (not on sale) is $409. They tried to quote $3300??? I was given a window of 2pm - 4pm and I planned accordingly. This guy showed at 12:15pm (WAY TOO EARLY) and I of course WAS NOT THERE!!! He seemed annoyed at that... Not sure if anything they did is leget. I still don't have a receipt -- will update if and when one comes. Refused to accept my coupon (which states ANY REPAIR over $100). I will be reporting them to the BBB, FTC and any other place I can. At a minimum, the coupon is false advertising and completely illegal. Again, "ANY" repair! No listed exceptions. Coupon was NOT expired
