First visit to Fusion Peru was a great start. Our server suggested the Chaufa de Mariscos -- sort of a Peruvian equivalent to seafood fried rice. Delicious, with shrimp, octopus, squid, etc. intermixed with delicious rice. Prices here aren't cheap, but the portion size was very generous -- took my lunch leftovers home and fed myself and my better half for dinner as well. Friendly service, cozy little place. 2nd time here, this time we brought our mom with us. Simple place with big flavors. We had the fried plantains and tostones. Really good. We also had the arroz chaufu (fried rice) and the ceviche de mariscos. I'm not big on octopus or mussels, but the flavor of the ceviche is very good, really enjoyed the sweet potato that is served with it. And of course the rice is amazing!!!!! The server was apologetic because they were out of sweet potato fries. We ordered yucca fries and plantains instead. The apps came out quickly. The portion of yucca fries was smaller than we expected, but they were good. The plantains were caramelized and quite good. For our entree, my partner and I split a mushroom lomo saltado. The mushrooms and sauce were very flavorful, and it was just the right portion size. Our friends also enjoyed all of their entrees. The service is very good and the prices are reasonable. I have been going to this restaurant for a while now, I highly recommend the beef chaufa with fusion sauce, it is truly an immaculate dish, the portioning is amazing as well. For reference I can finish a whole pizza (14" diameter, ~154 in^2) in one sitting and this dish comes very close to the level of fullness I feel. However I removed a star because they recently raised the prices from ~14-16$ to 22$. I have never eaten in Peru. But I have eaten in Brazil. This place feels like a good cheap upper lower class//lower middle class place. There is no catering to Yuppies. I am guessing it is pretty authentic. * * * Fancy Peruvian food is hard to do in the US. We don't have the raw ingredients. Particularly, we don't have all the unusual potatoes. American Peruvian places compensate by doing a lot of ceviches and doing heart appetizers. Those are perfectly lovely. But this place is salt of the earth lower class. It is NOT so salt of the earth that the meat would not pass inspection. In South America, you eat at a bus station or a real downscale place, and the meat will be foul. Middle class places keep the Plain Jane recipes and menus. But you can survive the food quality. What do you get in a cheapie South American place? All over Latin America, people eat hamburgers. These guys serve hamburgers. All over Latin America, people eat cheap tough steaks. They compensate for the toughness by using a marinade. These guys do cheap tough steaks that are marinated. I can personally vouch for the fact that the steaks at Peru Fusion are the toughest I have had anywhere on the planet. They tasted okay, but, boy, did I get an arm and upper body workout. All over Latin America, people make restaurant meals filling by serving a vast amount of starch. These guys give you French Fries AND rice AND Plantains. The steak is put on top of the French Fries and gets most of the sauce. So the French Fries get eaten kind of plain at the end. They tasted just fine. After a tough steak AND French Fries AND Rice and Plantains, I was plenty full at the end of the meal. All over Latin America, restaurants are located in cheap quarters where the physical maintenance is not so great. This place is showing a lot of wear and tear on the physical facilities. * * * So why isn't this a three star review? The sauces. The house makes its own custom made sauce which they give the same name as the restaurant itself, Peru Fusion They also make a bunch of other traditional Peruvian sauces. The sauces are absolutely excellent. They take what would otherwise be very plain eating ... And make it absolutely engaging, interesting and comforting. I left the restaurant happy with a sense of being well fed. I have no idea what is in the Peru Fusion sauce - except it is very spicy, it is light green and it is creamy. Some kind of chile for sure. Some kind of cilantro for sure. But there is more to it than that. I would eat Peru Fusion sauce on a boiled sneaker. Peru Fusion sauce is really good. And the French Fries and Rice were really good, and the steak tasted good with the marinade. * * * There are yuppier places out there that will serve you artisanal pisco drinks. There are yuppier places that will serve you super elaborate ceviche. But this place is solid for what it is. Haven't written a review in a while but our views have changed since the original review because now fusion peru is one of our go to's! The prices are still higher and they don't have a kids meal which is a bummer but the kids love the fried fish dish and all split that- it ends up being about $5 a kid which is like a kids meal. We love the fish tacos!! So tender and juicy and flavorful!! Highly recommend!! This place is a true local gem/hole in the wall at its finest! They have great passion fruit juice we get and then dilute and share because it's pretty sweet/thick. We also love the tallarin verde but get it with the lomo saltado instead of the big steak because we love the veggies with it. Everything is super flavorful and they even have homemade gelato!! Honestly was nothing like the reviews. First of all, the AC was broken so they had a big and loud AC unit in there. Whenever someone would open the door all the ceiling tiles would fly open. The two staff members were two young kids who tried but were a little unprofessional. The food took forever to come out. Tried the yukan fries and they were ok. My husband's burrito was not what he asked for and the beans and content inside just taste like it's from a can. I had the potato with chicken on top and I could of lived my whole life not trying that. It was cold. It probably was supposed to be cold but I wasn't expecting it to be. If you want some real Peruvian food, try their ceviche. It's similar to the ones you can get in Peru. We ordered their Ceviche and Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos. Their ceviche tasted fresh; it was strong, but not overwhelming, in flavor. The Arroz Chaufa de Mariscos was just a higher-end version of Chinese Fried Rice. I think it's a bit overpriced, but for the amount of seafood you get on your plate, I'd say it's worth it. The customer service was outstanding. Everyone was friendly and kind. Our waitress made sure we always had our refills whenever we needed them, and I'm telling you: she was VERY attentive. My girlfriend loves Peruvian food (she is half Peruvian and recently visited Peru). She got ceviche de mariscos and I got lomo saltado! It was SO GOOD :D! Our server was nice and we got the chance to talk to the owner of the restaurant and hear more about how the food was made. I like Peruvian food. Unfortunately, this restaurant does "bait and switch" for the prices. I ordered tacos that are listed at $8.75 on the menu. They charged me $9.50. When I asked why, they told me that there is an extra charge of $1 for the beef. I understand that beef prices went up with the pandemic. But please mark it on the menu, especially since the prices are done with yhr stickers anyway... We came in on a pretty slow Saturday night, only a couple other people, and we sat in the corner. We ordered a fried rice plate and a side of rice and beans, probably 10 or so minutes after sitting down and it only took that long because we couldn't decide. We then proceed to wait 45 min to an hour for anything to come out. Multiple groups came in, sat, ordered and received the food after we ordered. The huancaina sauce could have been a little bit thicker but tasted good with good enough amount of heat. Then I had the seco a la norteña. Beef stew, very tender meat. The peruvian spices is cooked with give it an earthy flavor. This dish comes with rice and beans. Beans were nice and soft with good flavor. Overall its a very hearty meal. Some of the other customer were having the arroz chaufa, it looked delicious. Perhaps ill try it next time. We didn't go during prime eating hours, so there weren't many people, but the servers were incredibly sweet and nice. There were so many things on the menu to choose from, but I ended up choosing the Machu Picchu burger, which consisted of beef marinated in Peruvian spices with American cheese, tomato, lettuce, a fried egg & additional Peruvian sauces. And wow was it delicious -- the sauces certainly takes the flavor to whole new level, and the fried egg just made everything better. My friend ordered the Seco a la Nortena, which was beef stew accompanied with rice and Peruvian beans; her dish looked equally delicious! Fusion Peru, as the name suggests, combines both traditional Peruvian flavors with a dash of American, and it does an incredible job!
