Hope you like spicy food, cause this place has got it. Got the pupusas de loroco, some cabbage slaw, and some beef enchiladas. Everything's great, the slaw has some major heat. As for the enchiladas, mere mortal cannot create an enchilada that approaches perfection, but this place certainly comes close. I had to have a pupusa today and the Pupuseria La Unión did not disappoint! Hot, fresh, melty cheese with shredded pork and a perfectly grilled shell - very tasty! I asked our server how big the pupusas were and she made a small circle shape with her hands, so I ordered 3. I love this place, I always come here! The plantains are not only inexpensive but delicious as well, they are soft and sweet. They come with a side of Salvadorian crema and red refried beans which are both super delicious. I also had the pupusa de loroco which is an edible flower that tastes just like greens. Def give this place five stars, even though the owner and the waitress barely speak English. (But that means the food is very authentic right??!!) The seafood soup is so good. An inappropriate comparison, the seafood soup here is only 9$ and taste much better than the 20+$ seafood ramen broth. I finally had a chance to check out Tienda La Union after eating at Centro American and wanting to try out more Pupusas. I visited Tienda La Union after dropping off my car at Siegert's Radiator Shop a block away and needing a place to eat breakfast. It was only 9:30 in the morning and I was glad to see the open sign for Tienda La Union was on. When I went inside most of the lights were off and the owner's son was playing on his laptop but once I told him I wanted to dine-in he turned them on and grabbed me a menu. He explained it was Salvadoran food and I reassured him I knew what I was doing. I had the Horchata to drink - different from Mexican Horchata but still very good. For breakfast I had two Pupusas, one pork and cheese and one cheese. They both came out hot and delicious. I really need to go back to Centro American right now to compare and contrast their Pupusas with the ones at Tienda La Union. Both restaurants have comparable pricing but Tienda La Union gets points for having a working air conditioner while Centro American gets points for having a more friendly owner. read more

This is definitely one of the quaintest shops in Bryan. Do not let the exterior fool you! The food is actually really amazing. The chicken tacos are pretty great. Straight of the grill and you can still here them sizzling. I really love that they do a lot of Salvadorian food since it's so much hard to find in BCS. I also really would recommend the papusos. I got a cheese one which was pretty delicious with some salsa. However, my friend got a pork papasua and it was simply out of this world. All in all, great spot and I would highly recommend it for a quick meal if you're in the area. read more

La Union Tienda y Restaurante is NOT a Mexican food place. It is food from El Salvador. This place is right around the corner from my house. I saw some positive reivews for it on Yelp, so the Mrs and I decided to try it out. We were not disappointed. First, they offered this melon-flavored drink which was very refreshing. I asked if they had tea, but the waitress showed the drink portion of the menu that showed a few different flavored drinks. I went with melon, and it was very good. We were there for lunch, so each of us ordered two fajita beef tacos and two pupusas. The tacos are what are considered "street tacos". They come in a white corn tortilla with cilantro and onions. They come with a verde sauce that you can pour onto the taco. The ingredients were fresh, and it made for the best taco I have tasted in a long time. I could probably eat 3-4 of these. We have never tried pupusas before. If you don't know what they are, they are fried flour tortillas stuffed with cheese only or cheese and pork. It comes with a cole slaw that you put on top of the pupusa, along with some red spicy sauce. The pupusas were creamy and tasty. The service was good. It took about 15 minutes to get the food out. Meanwhile, the place was busy with a couple of other tables and plenty of take out customers. The decor featured murals of El Salvador flags and mottos, as well as paintings of scenery. I recommend this place highly, especially if you're looking for a very good street taco. I would rank their taco with the best in town. read more

We love this place! When I first found out the sad truth about there not being many Salvadoran Restaurants in College Station I was sad. I am a Salvadoran girl, raised eating mostly Salvadoran food, so it was a big change coming to College Station, where I could not find many authentic Restaurants. One day I stumbled on Reviews over this Restaurant, and begged my boyfriend to take me after "dreaming" about having pupusas, Ok. you caught me I was craving pupusas. When we finally arrived to the restaurant I was so excited! I ordered two pupusas, one of cheese and the other cheese and beans, while my boyfriend got cheese and beans pupusas. He had never tried pupusas before and he loved them! It made me excited that he was starting to eat Salvadoran food. Overall, I love the service here, I can talk in Spanish to the ladies and they understand me. It literally felt like I was back in Houston, Texas, ordering in one of the many Latin-American restaurants! And the store? Excellent genuine Salvadorean food. My favorite pupusas, the Revueltas (mix of beans, cheese and chicharron (pork)) are stuffed generously and always come to the table piping hot. The tamales (both "de gallina" and sweet-corn tamales), fried plantains, yuca con chicharron are authentic and super tasty. I got a pupusas which was ok. Never had one before so this is kind of my benchmark now, but i dont think the bar is set very high. Texture was great, the shell was nice but the inside was bland. Similar to a qusadilla i guess. I also got 2 beef fajitas tacos. They were ok, refried beans were bland. The red and green sauce was average at best. Central American food is by definition, starchy. Like really, really starchy. While tacos do not feature in this cuisine, tamales do, but not like the Mexican kind. In short, this is a cuisine of poor rural people, and as in the United States, poor rural people eat a lot of starch. What we're talking about in this context is cornmeal, rice, yucca, and possibly potatoes...and lots of it. Which sadly means for me, not much at all. I have had the pupusas here and they are very good, but they're pupusas...a very simple basic filling disc of cornmeal with cheese inside. The yucca is, well, fried bland carbs. VERY filling as is its perfect, but not exciting. One thing I had that was very nice was some kind of carnitas like topping of pork that was very flavorful. Actually the thing I really enjoyed was the weird seafood soup made with coconut milk. There is something similar sold at the Fred & Fred fish market, and as the owners are from Central America, there's a pattern here. Its a basic simple but very cheerful and colorful place, and the family that runs it are shy and super sweet and friendly. Salvadoran food is good in a simple comfort food kind of way, and you should approach it not really expecting anything more or less. read more
