Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business.

They don't just recommend shoes, they fit you for the pair that best meets your specific needs and fits you properly. For anyone who has suffers from foot or knee pain, you know how life changing a properly fitted pair of shoes can be! In addition to a robust shoe, sneaker, running shoe, hiking boot area, Shortt's has all of your camping needs covered. Tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking equipment, dehydrated food, small cook stoves and more. They carry every color and size Hydro Flask and totes and coolers, too. Jackets, rain gear, hats, caps, swimsuits, sunglasses, clothing, waterproof pants and tops, maps, books - they have it all. The only section that I wish was more robust is the swim section. I swim an hour a day and while they had a few swimsuits, goggles and swim caps, I was looking for a mesh bag to carry my swim fins, gloves and goggles. They had three TYR bags but they were super bright neon colors and I want something more subtle. This is a family run business and they are all about personal service and as a result, when the store is crowded it can be challenging to get assistance because those working there definitely give full attention to the person they are widening with. Sportsman's advertises a price match guarantee, however the guarantee is that they don't price…read morematch. I was told by their customer service if I find a cheaper price online they would match it. I did find the items much cheaper online and when I sent sportsman's the proof, they would not beat the prices and changed their story yet another time. I would also like to add the sportsman's credit card charges 33% interest and they charge $3.50 per month if you choose not to go paperless. Sportsman's charges higher prices if you order through them online. Their in store prices are cheaper, so when sportsman's offers you a discount ( online only) your not getting a discount. They raise the prices online then offer consumers who open a card a discount. I've gone into the sportsman's store in Bend Oregon looked at a safe with a sign saying on sale with the original price of .99 cents higher than the sale price. Honestly just stay away from sportsman's and save money.

We inquired to be sure of which were discounted. There were two young employees working that day. One tried to help, but was clearly unsure about each thing we asked. We couldn't get the attention of the 2nd, as she was busy on her phone. They weren't unfriendly when we interacted, just complacent. The store didn't have a huge selection by any means, but things were fairly neat. We only visited the upstairs, so I've got no experience in their rentals. In the end we did walk away with new snow shoes, but I wasn't overly impressed on my first visit.

At Dick's, I found a case which indeed contained optics, and among the off-brands, found two pairs of Nikons, both priced lower than the nearby W***m***, and one of better quality. The very helpful salesperson allowed me to open the boxes and look through both. I was able to make a selection and I was very happy with it. Over the weekend, our family decided to go to DSG, we ended up spending $149~, it was $100 gift cards and the rest was cash. I didn't realize my toddler slipped in some random $17 socks, so I went in the next day to return them. I was met with Oscar, he was nice. I asked if I could get a cash refund since it was a small amount, he said no, due to it's based on whatever majority payment method was used. I leave it at that, I am disappointed because I really don't need $17 gc, I would like cash back. As I am walking back I am reading the back of the receipt, where it says refund will be made on initial form of payment, not majority used like Oscar advised. I spoke with my husband who was frustrated, told him what I read and what was said. My husband thought of work around, we can buy a more expensive item, use cash first for the majority and use the gift cards for the rest. So my husband goes in to try that. Oscar explains, no we can't do that, that it's the system gravitating towards a card. My husband points out what the receipt says, Oscar says it shows on the website, but does not bring it up. My husband returns to the car frustrated, because Oscar just lied and instead of asking for helped, insisted on dying on the hill the customer isn't always right. At this point, I'm going back into the store. I see Oscar talking among his colleagues talking about what just happened with my husband. Im still nice, but I request a supervisor. Supervisor explains Oscar is wrong it's not Majority it's just how the system works. I ask him, how does he want to correct this, and he just offers to cash it. It was such a simple fix. Oscar just needed guidance on how to navigate. I felt like this issue didn't need us as many times going into the store, If Oscar just asked for guidance in the beginning. It was frustrating experience overall. I'm glad we got the result we wanted, but just having to go through hoops, and it was a waste of time. Personally for me, this location left a poor taste, just because I am in customer service. I felt like the training could have been better. I appreciate the supervisor making it right.
