The cashier signed me up for a paid membership without disclosing it. She asked for an email as though she were setting up a normal point system but didn't say that it would be a paid thing until she got my info. Sure I could have backed out before paying but we all know it's easier to unsub before payment than to tell a cashier to start the purchase over. FYE, it's kind of taken on the same direction as Hot Topic has as it specializes in a lot of geek memorabilia from shirts, magnets and action figures. An exclusive music store it is not any longer but that is what you have to do either companies have to adapt or close. With that said I actually was impressed with the action figure selection here. Marvel Legends, Star Wars and DC action figures all caught my eye and I must say most of them I haven't seen at any other stores that I have been to so that is something I will definitely etch into my mind and it gives me a little bit more motivation to go to the mall. As far as prices go FYE has always been moderate to on the more expensive side of things. Much of the merchandise as well as the action figures reflect this but action figures in general(especially Marvel Legends) raise their prices just like stamps do. Music selection has always been fair with FYE. Seems like my musical tastes gets more specific and my preferred music has become older so the likelihood of locating music I enjoy diminishs at the few surviving music stores in my area anyway. read more

I arrived before closing. Therefor I was going through the isles I hit through some invite middle if store, this is where I put 4 bottles of some drinks and a stuffed animal in my paper bag in the middle if store abc in front of everyone. As this is what I'd take with me when I'm done shopping. I do this all the time. I'm now I. the back of store going through movies and a young dark complexed or mixed guy, with hair that was just banging everywhere and curly! He has a piercing as well in his nose. I got hippie vibes going on there. He stands at the end of the isle anc asks his it's going I say fine, he asks can I move your bags from here. I thought he was a customer looking for movies, and said "yeah." When he moves my bag he's looking inside them I see the whole time he's over ther, and he say's "Ooh where'd you get this" and pulls out my stuffed toy, and I say "well I didn't yet,""but they are over there on that wall there" and I point. He said ohh you got this from us I'm like wait, what! I laugh and say "Ooh you work here lol!" I was just dumbfounded in what had just happened. He acted like he was a customer moving my bags all the while looking like I a there to steal secondhand movies and other crap. Really, if I'd had nowaygo pay for my items then I would not be here. My kid's love this store, and I'm looking for movies with it certain period. This guy and employees targeted me,and followed my around standing behind me putting items on a shelf. Dumbest crap ever! Don't ever look at someone and assume. I was there to shop, and left with couple items. The little girl behind me was standing there over10 mins, like I was. She wanted my id. Although there were 2 employees there at registers they did not care to acknosledge the 3 girls in line, with the girl behind me and the other two on the side of her. They only wanted to ask how much the item was. The girls mother came in and told the employees that all she wante was to ask how much the item was and she'd been there standing as long as was holding her big stuffed something. She just too her daughters let's go! They wanted to buy something and she said no, I don't wan to burden the employees here with this, the purchase. I don't blame her. Also, I come from a distance to this specific store I think that will change. You need new employees. The most uncomfortable situations I have bee in. He invaded my personal space and dug through my bags,and then called a girl for a basket, and he said so I wouldn't get things mixed up! Look over the video! the workers here will ask for all your information and then sign you up for a subscription WITHOUT asking. I get that you make commission and may need it, but this scammy behavior is very weird and needs to stop. tried to do it with 2 separate subscriptions. just make sure you tell them NO when they ask for your email and or phone number. took 10 minutes just to checkout because they were so persistent. my friend even put something they were going to buy back because they didn't want to go through the same process. read more

If you're going to buy a movie new here, you're going to pay a high price for it. Most of the new DVDs I saw were on "sale" for over $20. However, if you're not opposed to used movies, you can get some great deals on used DVDs and BluRays. Their used selection is extensive and they're all in great shape. I'll be coming back every now and then to check on their used BluRay selection. I bought two used DVDs and got the third for free. You can't beat that! The service, however, has much to be desired! read more

But now, you have to hack thru the TShirts, Trinkets, Action Figures, and tons of tchotchkes until you finally get to the seriously sized down CD and DVD section in the far back. FYE is losing touch with what they are supposed to be focusing on and what their core business is supposed to be, but instead its now how to make as much money as possible. I was returning two used CD's purchased a few weeks ago: one was defective. When I presented the items to the associate, I was told I would only get store credit for the defective item. I explained that the item was defective, but she told me that "Used Guaranteed" would only allow me to exchange it for another item. I have been a customer of FYE for several years, and I have never had a problem like this. If a used item is defective, why should I be penalized? Granted it was only a couple of dollars, but it's the principle. The associate, which happens to be the manager, said that they "very rarely get a return that was bought at their store, but rather from the Tukwila location." I thought that this comment was not only unnecessary but it's also a defamation of the franchise. I have shopped at both the Tukwila and Tacoma locations, but the Tacoma location is more convenient to my home location in Olympia. I have been a customer from FYE stores for over a decade and a customer of affiliated stores for over twice that long. This experience has caused me to re-evaluate my future purchases from FYE and I will probably never buy another used item. DB read more

I came in to look at the speakers they had set up but none of them worked. On my way out I asked the sales clerk and her response was - they are probably not plugged in - Huh that would be a concept they should work on - store open - plug in speakers. Sort of like the sign over many business doors - "door must remain open during business hours" No brainer huh - but look up - the sign is in many places. :) I did look at their moves and found them to be on the higher price. I will say - at my age - they are probably not designed for me - but than us seniors do spend a lot of money. read more

i went to the mall wanting to go to barnes and noble but being new to the area, i didn't realize there isn't a barnes and noble here. so, my boyfriend and i went to this store to buy an album instead of waste the trip to the mall and at checkout, we declined to share our email and the check out person asked if she could get our number for a loyalty system. thinking it was just a simple thing of using your phone number to accrue points, we obliged and then were told we would be given a card that was initially free but would change into an $11 per month charge after the first month, with all kinds of "benefits." not wanting to be stuck there any longer after sitting through this process, we left with the plan to just cancel the card on the drive home. upon calling the customer service line, we learned it's actually a lie that you can cancel anytime. you must wait 1-3 days before cancelling. the agent hung up on us after explaining that. beyond that stupid and frustrating experience, the stock is overpriced and the store is messy. it honestly looks like leftover garbage that doesn't sell at hot topic and barnes and noble gets sent here. will not be returning. read more

I dropped off about 150 used CDs for them to go through. They called about a week later saying they were done. I came in about a week after that to get them and this lady starts lecturing me that they are not ready and she had told me and told my husband. I finally had to interrupt her and say she's talking to the wrong person! I handed her my slip and she said "oh." Then she said she was worried because my box had been sitting back there for so long. I told her it's not always convenient for me to come in when it's convenient for them. So about half of the CDs had been marked "yes" and about half "no" which is fine. But now she has to scan each one and about half of those she says they will not take! Why don't they do this before I come in? I don't really care and will be putting them in a garage sale this weekend. I ended up getting $34, a dollar for each one they took. Bad customer service. Won't be taking anything to them again. read more

Employees there seemed very impersonable and rude. I went there to buy a speaker/sound system for my TV. Nothing was plugged in. Gay Guy clearly did not know what he was talking about. Recommended and sold me one that he said "Was an upgrade". But was worse in everyway possible and more expensive. Ridiculous return policy. And the Samoan lady behind the counter acted more as a bouncer than a respectable customer service rep. read more

Since Suncoast closed in 2010, and Sam Goody is long gone, I find myself in here a lot more often these days. F.Y.E. has improved over the years and become more of a hybrid of movies and music since the above mentioned chains have withered away. Their selection is fairly thorough, and many obscure and hard to find DVDs/CDs are readily in stock, granted they tend to charge full MSRP for them. BUT, you will also occasionally find a rare movie and find it on sale. I rarely come into F.Y.E. looking for a specific title but just browse their sales and more often than not I find a treasure. I am not giving them a solid review for a couple of reasons: 1. Their pricing can be steep so know what you are willing to pay and what others sell it for before going in. 2. Their registers often don't ring up their sale prices. About every other time I've bought something the price rang up incorrectly and if you catch it and say something I've never had a problem; they make it the correct price. However, last summer, I bought a Billy Idol CD that was on sale for $9.99 but rang up at $14.99, and I didn't catch it until I got home and I even called to tell them and the "manager" said "How do I know you're telling the truth? I can't do anything for you." As you can imagine that's an infuriating response, and I even wrote their corporate site and got no response. Those are fairly serious failures in my book. On a second occasion, the same lady (thin, red hair, Flock of Seagulls hair) got fairly snooty with me and took her frustrations out on me over her not being able to find a supposedly "in stock" DVD I was looking for. She dismissed me with a hand gesture and said, "You'll just have to order it on line, or look for it in the store yourself." WOW. Naturally, I found it within 30 seconds of looking. Being a lone survivor in DVD/CD sales at the Tacoma Mall, you sorta take what you can get. But still, be thrifty and know that this place CAN have good deals, but you have to be aware. Moreso they're useful for their fairly unique selection, but their customer service can be blatantly rude and discourteous. And Jesus man, for the 5th time I don't have a Backstage Pass Rewards Card, No I would not like one, nor would I like to purchase CD protection for $2 for my $6.99 item, and no I would NOT like your "two free magazine subscriptions". read more

Went in to buy a few CDs, the man at the front said there was a buy one get one 50% off, but only on the dicks with an orange tag. Out of my whole time in the store, I only found one disk with an orange tag anywhere. Not a big deal, the part I have a problem with was the check out. I brought up my disks to the front to check out and the woman asked if I'd like 20% off with a membership that is "completely free" so I said sure, thinking it'd be something like a loyalty card where I'd just need to provide my phone number. After giving her my phone number and name, she said "you will start being charged $11.99 after 30 days". Excuse me what?? I then asked her just to cancel it, I don't need the 20%. She said I could call to cancel or log in online, so immediately after leaving the store I call to cancel. The man on the phone tells me I need to wait 48 hours, so of course I forget about the account in 48 hours until today when I noticed a $4 random charge to my bank account. So apparently, they save your card information at FYE, charge you random charges 5 days after you make the account (not 30) and don't tell you any of this and make it completely impossible to cancel. I will never be shopping here again, I'll buy my disks online or at half priced books. read more
