Regardless of that, Katie, Baili, and Foley are amazing human beings and everytime I'm in, it feels like visiting friends. I initially came here to get a high end custom suit, just for me. No event, I just wanted something bespoke and beautiful. I spent an hour or so with Katie, going through fabric books and picking out design elements, like my cuffs and collar and button styles, making the cuffs work for buttons or cufflinks, how the pockets sit (I went for Frogmouth, like you'd have on jeans). The options were incredible but not overwhelming...Katie listened to my ideas and my vision, we talked about my recent history, what I wanted to do with it, and all that. She'd get an idea and find the book, show me, and it would be perfect. Like she had a high end, limited quantity fabric in something like gold paisley. It exactly matched the gold and black theme I'm going for. I'm changing my aesthetic since a tragedy happened in my family, and so I'm trying to dress nicer and be more "out there," where I usually don't like people looking at me. But not now. I took up ballroom dancing, which is perfect for having my bespoke suit, with two different vests, for our events. The subtle touches -do- stand out. People who know recognize the quality instantly. People who aren't into style, fashion, or clothes know that it's high quality but can't figure out why, exactly, but they see it for what it is. The vests being tailored mean I don't have the adjuster on the back, which everyone else usually do, and wow, does that gold stand out. But the black vest on black jacket on the white or black shirt (black shirt with a priest collar that just looks stunning) is so classic. I paired it with a pocket watch on chain and boy, did I get some amazing compliments at the first dance showcase I wore it to. I can even adjust the jacket pockets to have flaps or no flaps. I was seriously able to customize the entire thing. I also got a regular and bow tie in the gold fabric. Such a beautiful accompaniment. I will be going on an Alaskan cruise next August in 2026...I'll be going back to Duchess to get another suit for the cruise. I have my black tie formal wear...but I also want a, well, for lack of better brief description, a "Mr. Howell from Gilligan's Island" kind of ensemble. Deck worthy. And in 27 I'll be going to Egypt, so I'll absolutely need a linen suit in the style of Lord Carnarvon (hold the colonialism theft of antiques, though, that's not what I like about his style). I can't imagine any other place I'd go to have clothing made for me. I love it here.

When I walked in I was greeted by Joe who was very helpful and gave me so much information about the store and all the customization they do. He showed me me the wallets they have and I told him what my s.o. prefers and showed me the perfect wallet. I love the quality and craftsmanship of the leather. It was incredibly disorganized and we had to dig through fabric books to find something similar to what he was looking for in terms of color. Tiger was nice, but VERY new to this. We were hoping for a little more guidance/expertise, but his style didn't quite align. He didn't ask any of the right questions and we had a significantly better experience at Indochino in terms of measuring. The cut on the suit is pretty bad. After alterations, it was still slightly off. We ended up taking it elsewhere to get the right fit. It took a long time time to get the suit, shirt, waistcoat, and tie. They didn't even tell us when it was ready for pick up - we had to call and ask. The first shirt that arrived was entirely wrong (and like three inches too short) so they had to make a new one. We ended up ordering his shirt from Proper Cloth instead (which turned out to be awesome). Overall, it's fine. But if we could do it all over again - we would definitely go somewhere else.

They want to bring their old Datsun into the tailor and expect to turn it into a Ferrari. No way bozos, you got a cheap deal because they didn't use handmade fabrics from around the world, they didn't use million dollar machines to do each step of the process, so quit expecting to buy cheap junk with a dumb meaningless label and make yourself look and feel like a million bucks. Invest the money just like on your car, and get fabrics that are made like nowhere else in the world, fit that you will not find anywhere, and then simply be happy, because you can be comfortable and move easily and look perfect and unique. You pay for this and not enough in my opinion, because the yarn maker is not making much, the weavers are not making much and the tailor is not making much, definitely not enough for what you get. You pay to look good, well at least better than when you came in, and you go out looking good, just ask your friends. If you don't have the one sized body that fits all, just let a tailor like Andre help you out and you will be very happy just like me. I could spend a lot more money here, however budgets come into play, and this is the best money I ever spent anywhere. No one can look down on me in this clothing, even if I was digging in the ditch. You can look at the fabric with a magnifier and the closer you get the better it looks. I had a woman I met one time and she was about 30' away and when she met me, she said, wow, it looks even better up close than far away, and she wasn't referring to me, it was my custom clothing! That is the thing, just like marble or beautiful wood grain, there are different colored threads running through these fabrics that look even more beautiful up close. Timeless beauty, hand crafted, old world tradition. Now if I could just get some of those fancy Italian shirts with fancy patterns next time and a suit with a red silk lining with dancing girls!!!

But my experience…read morewith Harris and Tailor is one that I would not want anyone else in my position to have to repeat. Everything started off well, with an initial visit to the store where I met the clothier, Mark, and scheduled a fitting. I was in the market for a suit for my wedding on June 25th, and was shopping in March. I came in a few days later, chose my fabric, got fitted, and worked with Mark on designing every aspect of the custom, made-to-measure suit. I left the store $1,200 lighter, with an estimate of a 4-6 week turnaround, quite excited to see how my suit came out. Eight weeks later, on May 31st, I got a text saying my suit was ready to try on. When I came in, Mark had apparently departed the company, replaced by someone who typically worked "back of house, or in Seattle." Not a huge deal. Regretfully, the suit measurements were way off (super tight, the custom shirt was comically short in torso and arm length, and the vest was huge and billowy). This is where things got worrisome. The new employee re-measured me and submitted the updated measurements to a tailor, who I was just learning was not a part of Harris and Tailor's operations, but a separate tailor business they outsource work to in Downtown Portland. Three weeks later, with only a week to spare for my wedding, the suit came back. Still didn't fit. This time we drove over to the tailor together with my suit, to have the actual tailor place pins in the suit while I wore it to get the right fit - this would have been nice to do from the beginning! A week later, with two days to spare, I came back in to find my suit still did not fit. We drove over once more to the tailor, who made some more measurements, and the H&T employee personally drove my re-fitted suit to my address the night before the wedding. While that was a nice touch... the suit still doesn't fit! There is a huge, 1.5 inch gap between my shirt collar and the jacket collar, something that the H&T employee was surprised to hear was a problem. There couldn't be more of a dead giveaway to anyone who knows about suits that this suit was incorrectly tailored. Unfortunately, until they rehire a clothier here, this store has no business creating custom suits, let alone charging for them. I'll have to see if another tailor can fix what I bought. PS - I wore a rental tux to my wedding and it looked fantastic.

They were clearly knowledgeable about current fashion trends as well as classic style and were able to help me make informed decisions. This was more than I've ever spent on clothes before, and I was thoroughly pleased with the results. Most if not all of the credit goes to Dawn, Mark, and Paul.
