They came to my rescue!! The week before we were going to put our house up for sale, I noticed our kitchen ceiling was leaking. Upstairs I went to find our guest bath toilet leaking water all over the tiled floor!! A call to G&C and Chris was there within 2 hours. He gave me multiple options and priced them out and I chose to have the entire toilet replaced by them. They were able to come the next business day and do it. I was even running 10 min behind and came home to find them parked in the driveway waiting! Talk about accurate service window estimates!! They replaced the toilet and did great work cleaning up, as well. They even wore shoe covers every time they left and reentered my home. Chris & Chris went above and beyond!!! G&C Plumbing's pricing is significantly higher than expected for the work performed. I scheduled an appointment to replace a kitchen faucet and three shut-off valves; however, I was informed that an estimate could not be provided without an on-site visit. A $99 service call fee was disclosed in advance. Despite being a relatively simple job, the total cost exceeded $1,900. After researching the cost of the faucet from their local supplier, I discovered that the faucet retailed for $280, yet I was charged $1,142 for the faucet and installation. Replacing three shut-off valves was billed at $673. In total, an estimated $450 in parts resulted in $1,350 in labor for what was less than a 3-hour job. I reached out to management to better understand the significant upcharge and was told the pricing reflects a two-year company warranty. That explanation raised more questions, given the faucet manufacturer already provides a lifetime warranty on parts and finishes for residential users, covering defects in material and workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns their home. I was also told the shut-off valves were not expected to fail within their two-year warranty. The remaining justification was that G&C hires experienced plumbers who provide a professional and courteous customer experience. Is this not what a consumer should expect?! Then I was informed that G&C provides a complete benefit package for their employees and that plumbers are just expensive. Overall, while the work was completed, the pricing felt significantly out of line with actual cost of parts, scope, and duration of the job. read more

First, the tech was genuinely pleasant and polite, and I have no issue with the tech at all. Been around long enough to know when a service tech of a larger company is rigorously and diligently following the company's protocols. And clearly, it is about massive and unrelenting upselling. Reason for service: fix an ongoing bathrm faucet drip, and install a new faucet on a cheap utility sink, for which we already had the hardware/faucet for. Just install it. Looked at hose spigots outside. Went through pricing for brand-new bathroom faucets and shut off valves. All told, tech was at the house for 1.5 hours, 25 minutes of which was spent in the truck working up various pricing plans. Was finally presented with an estimate for over $1600. Was told it wasn't possible for the tech to quote the price of parts. ?? Paid the $99 service call and none of the simple fixes were performed. The most appalling service call I can remember. Again, not the tech's fault. This company should do some very hard thinking about its approach to making $ and doing business. Know what's really hard to fix? While this owner, who financially Screws people, continues to say over and over that I was there and saw the estimate, REFUSES to comprehend, that his guy Brian, just showed us the water tank and scrolled to the bottom to sign. Or maybe he does comprehend and that much of a thief. We are not plumbers and did not know what was involved, as we had a leaking water tank. He rips people off and says "you saw the estimate, you signed it, that is your problem." That should speak volumes to you when a business owner says that. ANYHOW, you need to be careful if you are stupid enough to consider hiring this company. ABSOLUTELY, nothing is on the estimate or invoice about paying $2,200.00 in overhead. That is on top of him charging $589.00 for a $100.00 expansion tank, on top of $250.00 for parts that cost $20.00, and on top of that he changed another 10% profit. Their service and professionalism are second to none. I met Bob, Brian, and I spoke with Faye in customer service. They all had my best interests in mind and never charged me for a thing without telling me the cost first. And I never felt pressured, no hard sell. Every time I called their office I felt as if I was their only customer. The work, effort, care, timeliness, honesty, and all around customer service makes C&G one of premier plumbing contactors in N.E. Looking to hire a new HVAC company (our last just went out of business) and called to have an in-home quote done for service and some minor repairs. Went through the entire scheduling process, explained everything we needed in detail and clearly asked for someone to come and quote. After 15 minutes of doing all this, I was told there would be a $189 charge to come to even look at our systems! When I explained I wanted to meet the company BEFORE committing to anything, all I kept being told is "this is what we will do for you". I asked directly if they would come out without any charge I could not get a direct answer. How rude? How unethical? How unreasonable? I understand it costs money to have someone come out, but that would be like a car dealer asking you to pay to test drive a car. read more

Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for pricing. This company is a complete ripoff and they are rather unethical. Their pricing is completely outrageous. My experience is shared below. First, a master "sales" plumber (no names given) will show up at your door. Rather than get to the point of your call, he will initially engage in a prolonged, seemingly casual conversation, likely to assess your vulnerability and knowledge. After he finishes with his analysis, he'll look around and try to upsell you on potential issues that don't necessarily exist. What I thought was a bad water heater turned out to be a leaking pipe above the water heater. This was noticed (by me) while I was standing there talking to "the sales guy". He basically lied to me and said my hot water heater was bad too. After he left, I verified it was not bad. They charge $99 just to walk through the door and give the friendly guy sales approach. They could have simply given me a quote over the phone for the work that I requested. I was given a $6,000 quote for high efficiency water heater replacement and a single ball valve replacement while they were here. I looked up the cost of the parts online. The cost of the water heater was under $2000 at the local warehouse. A valve cost $20 and the Flue materials probably $100-$200. They basically charged me $3700 to $4000 just for labor. 2 guys and a 3 hour job comes to over $600 hour! Thinking this is todays costs, I was a sucker and accepted the proposal. My water heater had a 6 year warranty and it was going on 8 years so I decided to replace it anyway, even though there was nothing wrong with it. While watching them bring the new hot water heater to my back yard, I noticed the back of it was all badly dented up and there were deep gouges taken out of the side. At $6,000, they had intended on installing this water heater in my house. Are you kidding! I had to ask them to go back to warehouse and get me a new one. This was obviously the company having damaged goods who thought they could dump it on me. The installers were otherwise awesome guys. Very professional and good to talk to. The installation looks nice. I was a sucker and just took the first quote I got. They pressure you into accepting the quote today to get the $99 sales fee back. This tactic will rush you into a decision rather than find other quotes. If I held out on them, I believe they would have called back and lowered my price to get the job. I got taken for a lot of money. It's my own fault. I will never do business with this company again. I hope you have read this review and decide not to even ask them to come to your home. read more

I have had G and C twice to my home. Neither time did I award them the job. Both times they were prompt. That is the reason for giving any stars at all. Both times, service techs came in with their iPads and photographed the problem to send back to the office. Then waited for the office to price out and describe options. The most recent visit was to replace a water heater. The tech came and and immediately said, unless you replace the configuration of the existing system, we won't take the job. He said,"because we care about your safety." He then provided alternatives to the gas water heating system we currently have. First, drop an insulating sleeve down the chimney at a cost of around $3500. Then purchase the new water heater, etc. Second option: a power venting water heater...oops, no, because the parameters outside the house would not allow this. Third, switch from gas to electric. This would involve tying in to the circuit breaker system ( hire an electrician), and lose the ability to have hot water when there is a power outage. The tech provided 3 options for converting to electric, ranging in price from $3500 to $5700. I slept on it and felt, I am being soaked ( pun intended) for a new system that I don't even want! I called another plumber, he came the day I called, and he replaced the existing water heater in the existing system, no problems. By 3 pm the day before Thanksgiving, new water heater! Total cost $2400. I will not call C and G again...and no, I do not want to become a gold member of their service club! BEWARE! read more

Not highly recommended. We called to have our plumbing fixed in the bathroom tub on the second floor of our home. They mentioned we needed a new tub, so to remove the old one and install the new one they literally left breakages in our wall and destroyed some tiles. They stated they do not restore the environment when they do projects of this nature. It cost me an additional $4K to fix the mess that was left behind. Add to that a very expensive monthly "Diamond Club" Fee..... we have moved on with our plumbing needs. read more

Not upfront with cost or service. Called to make an appt with Greg who said he'll be available at such and such time; he cannot provide guidelines to cost, but will charge a visitation fee. At the prearranged time, Greg was not the one who showed up, and the first thing they said (before even inspecting anything) was, we have a very simple fee structure...complete with attempts to upsell on "membership fees"... If so simple why not disclose over the phone? Will charge $89 to repair a faucet.... can't disclose over the phone? Cmon... They ended charging a grand to install a part to which they did not present alternatives... something which would have been unethical in other industries... Seems like G and C wants to market itself as a high-end service provider. But without upfront transparency to cost and service, trust may be unlikely to result. They won my sale via their captive cost strategy, but had unfortunately lost my trust in the mean time. read more

Brandon and his assistant worked very hard to fix and source a rare part for our shower system. It was very difficult to find as it was only made for one year. They took their time and worked to try the least invasive approaches first. In the end, they had a terrific solution, great attention to details, were prompt and efficient and extremely respectful. I rarely find such professionalism in contractors, but this was exceptional! I felt very much like Brandon was an expert and looking out for my interests. We hired G&C to do the plumbing associated with a new kitchen counter replacement and 3 bathroom vanity tops. The crew was very professional, timely, and up front about the products being installed. The initial removal and subsequent install of new sinks was done as agreed. There was a follow up visit needed that they handled just as professionally. They were up front with pricing, not knowing what to expect I was a bit thrown by the cost, but I'm glad I hired them. They do seem to focus on building a happy, repeat customer base. Brandon at G&C came by for a quote on a new heat pump hot water heater, and he was extremely kind and helpful. Unlike a previous contractor that stopped by, he discovered that our amps needed an upgrade in order to support any new heat pump water heater (therefore also requiring an electrician) and also discovered that our sump pump was broken - the assessment was transparent and helpful, as the upfront discovery prevented us from getting up-charged by someone else as these problems probably would've been discovered mid-job (or, even worse, never taken care of until it was too late). While we didn't end up going with G&C for the HW replacement (we found a better price elsewhere), the education on what we needed saved us a major headache and deserves this kind review. read more

We had our copper water line break when installing a new refrigerator. Thankfully, my neighbor was able to crimp the line to get it to a drip. I've had service from G&C previously, after finding their card, I called them. They asked that i send a picture of the shut off valve; they were here within an hour.
