Has worked on my entire families cars for years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Honest, reliable service. I went to one of those quick lube chain places for an oil change thinking it was too small time to bother G&L. That won't happen again. I went to 2 different quick lube places and both times ended up having to come and get it redone and the bottom of my car cleaned of all the spilled oil. Apparently they used pliers to put the filter on and it sprayed my car . Thanks to Bud my mechanic, he explained the importance of avoiding the chains (the cheaper oil used, the rush to make numbers, etc). And G&L ends up replacing engines on one of the chains. They call him when they run into a problem. Moral of the story Isn't about oil changes. It's about honesty and consistency and you will find that here. read more

Complaint Against : G & L Auto 12735 S. Pulaski Alsip, IL 6083 My car would not start, I was referred to the above shop by the tow truck driver. I received a call that same day and was told that it was the starter. As of today's date, my car has the same problem that caused me to take my car to G & L Automotive initially. As a matter of fact, the day I picked up my car, it would not start (after a new starter had been installed). I told George Jr., the owner, that my car still is not starting and he told me to push the shifter past the park position. After doing what George told me to do, my car started right away. When George Jr. gave me directions regarding how to start my car, this really concerned me. And, as a result of my concern, I had my car re-inspected. I had my car re-inspected the next day by Auto Repair Inspector Dan Vasic, Mr. Vasic found that the problem with my car existed in the shifter and not the starter. Dan Vasic , wrote " I determined that the car is missing the back drive unit and rod, thus causing the car to have inconsistent starting problems ...this is not a faulty starter problem". After receiving this new found knowledge and understanding, I returned back to G &L Automotive (the next business day) and asked the owner's father (George Sr.) to test my original starter (which had been removed from my car). George, Sr. tested my original starter and found it to be working properly. After I saw that my original starter (which had been removed) was working. They wanted to remove the new starter that they installed, and replace it with the original starter that they removed. At that point I didn't feel comfortable with letting this shop touch my car again. The father, George Sr., and I clearly saw that nothing was wrong with the original starter. At this time, his son/the owner, George Jr., was not present. However, George Jr. knew that the issue with my car was not related to the starter. Consequently, he instructed me to push forward on the shifter to start my car. I actually paid for a service that was not needed. G & L Automotive is not a reliable business and they did an unjust service along with a false repair. This was a scam and I will never go back to G & L Automotive. read more

I was on a interstate trip when my check engine light came on unexpectedly. I came into G and L Auto. Although I did not have an appointment, they quickly diagnosed my problem (engine misfire due to a bad ignition coil and spark plugs), got the problem fixed, and got me back on the road. I couldn't ask for a better repair experience. read more

I was recently referred to this shop through some friends. These days its hard to find a mechanic you can trust. I called and was able to bring my car in right away. Bud (the owner) took the time to show me what was wrong and explain what needed to be done. I liked that he took the time to do that and also let me know my options in order to save money. I been going to G & L Automotive since I got my first car in 2003. They been good to me ever since. They always get it done right the first time weather if its replacing the brakes, fixing a coolant leak, or doing a simple oil change.
