Came here for a simple admissions test got here at 10:07am for admission test and sat in line for 15 minutes before I called the phone number and when I told the guy what I was here for he put me on hold, not feeling too professional over here. I don't feel like an admission test should take more than 15 minutes. I might as well be getting that oil change. I don't usually leave reviews but this was by far the easiest emissions test process I've ever done thanks to this place. Instructions and where to go was very clear and simple from the signs they have outside. Once they gave me the go ahead to pull in the shop garage, they did the test and I was out of there in less than 5 minutes. They were very nice to me while I was there and it's just a huge difference from the state-run facilities I'm used to going to. I'll be going here from now on. read more

Unprofessional Owners and Poor Business Practices Our experience at Kennedy Auto Repair was beyond frustrating. The business is owned by William (Bill) De Ridder and Elizabeth De Ridder, and their lack of professionalism reflects poorly on the entire establishment. We accidentally pulled into the wrong spot--a minor mistake--and were met with Bill coming out and yelling at us like we had ruined his whole day. He was shaking his head, acting completely annoyed, and instead of calmly explaining where to park, he treated us with outright hostility. We moved as directed to another spot, only to have him storm out again, barking orders in a rude and aggressive manner. What stood out most was how tough Bill acted toward me, a woman. His aggressive tone and demeanor were completely unnecessary and downright inappropriate. Acting like a "big man" toward women doesn't make you look professional--it makes you look miserable and unfit to run a business. When I politely told him to be more cordial, he escalated the situation even further and ultimately refused us service. It's worth noting that Kennedy Auto Repair is not a BBB-accredited business, and frankly, that makes perfect sense. BBB accreditation requires businesses to uphold standards of trust, transparency, and responsiveness to customer complaints. Based on our experience, it's clear this business doesn't meet those standards. Bill and Elizabeth De Ridder run a hostile, unprofessional shop that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Save yourself the headache and take your business somewhere that values respect and customer service. UPDATE December 27,2024 ( Voicemail left from Bill De Ridder) : "This is my sonic weird mess , but is this the guy that I got into an argument with yesterday in the emissions line . If you wanna call me back I'd really like to call you back and apologize personally but if you don't wanna call me back , I just wanna let you know I apologize . The way I treated you yesterday was unprofessional and I I truly am sorry. I hope you have a good day." Bill is highly disrespectful towards woman. Absolutely amazing service! We called to see if they could repair our tire which we just discovered had a huge nail (or something) in it and it was losing air. They told us to come right away and within 7 minutes we were there. They assured us that since the nail was in the the groove of the tire, it could be repaired. So they grabbed the keys and within 10 minutes, our tire was repaired and filled with air! Viola! And they surprised us with a Christmas special. I've never had such a thoughtful, welcoming and kind experience. They truly take care of their customers. I highly, HIGHLY recommend you bring your vehicle here to people you can trust to take care of you and your vehicle. Best experience ever! Absolutely worth the value and every minute. My husband and I needed our car (Nissan Rogue) to be checked due to shaking that occurred at a high speed and a rattling noise. DO NOT SOLICIT THIS BUSINESS!!! You have been warned. They are liars and cheats with horrible customer service. They have no morals or business etiquette and you can not trust the work of their mechanics. I was told two different reasons why my vehicle failed the emissions test. I was recommended by one of their mechanics what work needed to be done and what parts were needed to complete the service. I was quoted two prices, one for parts and labor and one for labor only. I elected to get the parts on my own. Upon returning with the parts my vehicle was diagnosed and I was given a completely different problem with my vehicle and the estimate for the job was all of a sudden $1,500!!! When I refused to pay this amount, they held my car and refused to relinquish my keys to me until I paid them a $125 diagnostic fee. After they had created the error and miss diagnosed my vehicle initially!!! So I was stuck with +$400 in wrong parts and had to pay $125 for their error. A very costly mistake by incompetent idiots that should be boycotted and put out of business. They feel entitled due to the fact that they believe customers don't have the knowledge or abilities to fix vehicles on their own so they play on our lack of understanding and do whatever they want for a fast buck. They are petty and predatory in their business practices. They should be forced from our neighborhood and not allowed to practice their dirty business in our midst. Avoid this place at all costs. Do business with better people who will respect you and your property and treat you humanely and provide the service that they advertise. read more

I was recently in the Chicago area buying a new (used) truck and wanted to have a local mechanic look it over before I chose to buy. When I called Kennedy Auto, they were kind enough to squeeze me in to their full schedule, that day, as they knew I was only in town a short while. Bob, the owner, overlooked the truck himself. He allowed me to come into the back and take a closer look at the undercarriage and pointed out areas that he looks for when buying a vehicle. He thoroughly inspected all parts of the truck and reassured me that I was buying a quality vehicle and that I wouldn't have any issues on my long journey home. They even took the time to patch some lodged nails in the back tires (free of charge)! Needless to say, after owning the truck several weeks now, I haven't had a lick of trouble with it. I've lived in the area for many years but have not visited Kennedy Auto until this became a site where Illinois emission tests can be performed. The test was performed just before they closed for the day and took just a few minutes. Note: it can be a little snug space-wise as this is a very popular business. If a driver needs assistance driving into the testing area and backing out of it, I would certainly recommend that they speak up and ask for assistance. read more

I have brought both of my family's cars to Kennedy Auto and have been pleased with service every time. One of my cars is a 1998 Toyota Camry that I thought needed to be replaced, but through their diagnosis and repair, I was able to keep the car. I thought there needed to be major repairs but through their honest diagnosis, I was able to keep the car on the road with minor repairs. I have checked their prices against local competitors and found that their prices have been consistantly lower. They do not have their own rental cars, but will give you a ride home (locally) or have Enterprise Rental car close by. Every time I have brought my car there, they tell me when it will be done and how much it will cost (once they diagnose it). Every single time, the car was done when they said, and usually under or exactly what they quoted. I would definitely recommend Kennedy Auto Repair to anyone. read more
