Came here on a recommendation from a coworker. A flying heavy object hit my driver side mirror and knocked the glass out and pretty much did physical damaged. Tons of people at my husband's work recommended G&y auto so we took it there, and when we told him what the other mechanic said, he laughed and told us it would probably be between 180 and $300 at the most. I've worked nearby for 8 yrs and have gone to this mechanic once or twice for very minor things. Today I went expecting to have bit of a bill for brakes/new rotors/oil change etc... I cannot stress how grateful I am for the honesty and quality of service. I ended up not needing all the things I expected, rotors just needed a polish and brakes were still good just needed a proper balance. I feel anywhere else would have just replaced the braked/rotors simply because I asked and didn't know better. But not this place, they kindly explained what the issue was and work needed. It was a fair price and not to mention exceptional service. I would recommend this business to everyone. Greg (owner) and his daughter Tali were super honest and responsive. I went in to get my tire looked at. While some of the other shops recommended that I completely replace my tire, I was not convinced. So I went to Greg and he saw that the tire stem was the only thing that needed to be swapped out. He swapped it out in seconds and didn't even charge me. So very honest. He saved me serval hundred dollars for a new tire + install. I will definitely be back for any body work, oil changes, or repairs to be done to my car. read more

Specifically, I took our 14 Ford Escape Turbo in, late in the day on a Thursday (a day before Christmas), with a mysterious issue regarding failing circulation of coolant through the engine. You diagnosed the issue, and repaired the car within 24 hours. This, frankly, is a high level of service that I have seen you perform time after time. However, you went a step further by Checking all elements to pass your drive test. I took my totally burned out car to them seriously hoping anything was worth saving. He gave me a quote of $2500 because my car had over heated and so much had to be fixed. But that was the absolute max of what I could afford because I'm already working two jobs. When I showed up two weeks later, he told me the car was so much worse that he had thought. My heart sunk because I thought he was going to raise the quote. He told me all the other things, radiator had holes, one engine fan stopped working, tubes had completely broken, plastic parts had melted, oil was burned and my right tire arm needed to be fixed. I wish I could rate G&Y 5 MORE stars. I just moved to the area and I need a new mechanic. My car had just hit 60k miles, so I figured I should go in for a 'tune-up' and get everything checked out/looked at. Greg was so accommodating and welcoming. I'm a 28 year old (female), I know nothing about cars (for context). Greg explained what I would need done, a simple oil change and checking other fluids. He didn't try to over sell or push me on anything else, he easily could have over charged me for services I didn't need. He even checked my tires for a leak and patched that as well. A few weeks passed and my check engine light came on today, I stopped by and he scanned it to diagnose the problem. It ended up being nothing, it likely came on because I was low on gas. He explained the issue and said it was no big deal. Car problems are so stressful and I dreaded even taking it in to get looked at. If/when anything serious happens with my car, I will feel confident taking it to g&y -- I feel so blessed to have found this shop! read more

G&Y (Greg) is the only place (ONLY PLACE) I'll send my wife and daughter in order to get their car fixed. That by itself should tell you enough about how I feel about this shop. In addition, I just bought a brand new Rav4 and they gave me 3 years of free oil change and checkups. This is free. But I rather take my car to Greg than have Toyota take care of it for free. I am not selfish, these guys deserve all the business they can get and so I'm writing this outstanding account of their services. I've gone to many auto mechanics thus far in life, but G & Y hands down gets the best approval of a auto repair shop that my words can put into perspective. I had a few things wrong with my Lincoln Nav, so I brought it to a few repair shops - the outcome was not very pleasant, and I (having limited knowledge of auto repair) still knew that the mechanics who gave me estimates were flat out lying and trying to increase the amount of work I actually needed. So, I did some more research and saw all the amazing reviews on yelp for this wonderful business. Now let me be honest, these guys are swamped with work, and for good reason. I brought my car in to get estimates on repairs I would need done to get my vehicle in tip top shape on a Tuesday, Greg had a full sweep done on my Nav - finding exactly what I needed to know. The couple of thousands of dollars I once thought would be needed to fixing my vehicle turned into VERY simple uncostly repairs. Instead of just saying "Hey I'm going to need to replace this, that and the third" it turned into "Hey, this is whats wrong, we can go about it a couple ways - I'll try to fix it myself if I can and that will save you a lot of money, or if it's necessary, we will replace it." Another great part about this service is that you can feel safe bringing your vehicle here. I accidentally left a $10 bill laying under my seat (no this was not a test for their integrity) and low and behold it was still there. In the past I've had repair shops ROB me of my personal belongings - and I mean not just a couple bucks, but literally hundreds of dollars worth of stuff I've had in my car (partially my fault for leaving them in there, but then again they aren't getting paid to move stuff around in your vehicle, let alone take it). Do not worry yourself at G & Y, they are stand up mechanics. So to sum up this review, you should get three things out of it. 1. This shop does it's best to figure out what truly is wrong with your vehicle. 2. They go OUT OF THEIR WAY to make it affordable and offer a few solutions. 3. Their integrity is BEYOND reproach. So, take my word for it, these guys are much more than "legit", far better, they are trustworthy. I know where I'll be bringing my vehicle as long as I'm living in LA County - and that's saying a lot. Oh - and for the work that Greg doesn't feel comfortable doing, he will suggest another place, or someone that specifically deals with that part at no gain to his own. I absolutely love this place, dealing with Greg was like dealing with a family friend, courteous, respectful and pleasant. I have been looking for a reputable auto repair shop in Glendale and G&Y Auto Repair has met those expectations. The owner, whose name is Greg, is quite friendly and will take time to tell you what is wrong and how he plans to fix it. He does not try to upsell you; he will tell you if you have other issues that need to be fixed and the priority of those issues. I dropped my vehicle off early in the morning...he was busy, but he called later that morning as promised and gave me the diagnosis and an estimate. He finished the work that day and I picked up my vehicle later that day. G&Y Auto Repair takes all forms of payment - cash, charge, or check. The price was fair and reasonable for the parts and labor. He showed me the parts that were broken. The only minor issue is that parking is difficult. There is a small amount of parking in the shop so be prepared to park on the street. I highly recommend G&Y Auto Repair. read more

Greg and his staff are AMAZING! I first had their shop recommended to me while I was working at one of the studios down the street. The quality of work and pricing can't be beat! I've tried getting various work "quotes" from different places around town and Greg's is always the lowest AND he works the fastest! Usually, if you bring your car in in the morning, he'll have it done by closing time. I don't let anyone else touch my car! I know, with G & Y, to always expect, fast, friendly "neighborhood" service, at the lowest price. I never have to worry about Greg trying to rip me off or charge me for a service that I don't really need. I can't say it enough, if you need a great mechanic---go see Greg (it's actually best to call first to make sure they're not already full for the day---but usually he can at least get you in by the following day---same day if it's an emergency!). He explained things to me, showed me what he was talking about on the car and on the computer (I'm a car girl, and often do my own maintenance, so this is very important to me), did the work while I waited, and came in UNDER his own over-the-phone estimate. It was a minor repair, but I will be going back. FYI, I failed my smog check due to my timing being off, and G&Y fixed it, and explained that the car's computer was making up for it to a certain extent, which is why I didn't feel it while driving. This is one of the mechnics you can really trust! Greg is the owner of the garage and has three brilliant mechanics, but still keeps an eye on everything, what is done in his shop. What i like: a) he takes the time to figure out your problem, describe it HONESTLY to you and tell you would your options are b) he takes also a look besides your "main" problem (which can rescue your car's life) c) he stays with the price he mentions d) their turn around time is really good That was general. For interested Yelpers I shortly describe my last "event": During a reparation (changing gaskets) he saw that my timing belt was almost about to die. So he called me, informed me about what he would recommened and gave me the option to come and check it myself. I trusted him (saw the timing belt later - totally done). But, changing the timing belt a bracket, which was cracked, broke. Since it is an 80s car, it was difficult to get. So he figuered out where to get it, got it, changed it and didnt even charge me the "overtime" he did with this job. Just the material. I think this is more than fair. Greg and the team @ G & Y are AWESOME!!! I had a friend that was in a bind, driving from SF to cross the border. She had a problem with her wheel. I called Greg, he tells her to bring the car in and that they would get it checked out ASAP. I had my friend tow it over there, and got a call from Greg about an hour later, notifying me that a few of the wheel studs were broken and lug nuts missing. The actual repair came out to waaaaay less than I thought it would. My friends are female, don't know much at all about cars; so they were at G & Y's mercy. To know they COULD have charged/sold more unnecessary work and DIDN'T......WOW!!! On top of all of this, it is the day before Christmas eve.
