Love this little park! I live close by and run/walk the nearby canal often, but never thought to review it until now... My family recently took up pickleball and GR Herberger currently has four pickleball courts. The park also has two tennis courts, two sand volleyball courts, some picnic tables and benches, a private parking lot, public bathrooms, a grassy area, and easy access to the Arizona Falls and the aforementioned canal. So, I've been frequenting this park more often and I'm so grateful it exists! Note: If you do intend to play pickleball, there are some rules for rotating it in to keep it fair for everyone... If you're seeking more of a playground park for kids to play, Arcadia Park is a super quick walk across Indian School as well. read more

This is a nice park with an adequate parking lot. You will find a restroom facility here, along with a couple of sand volleyball courts, 2 tennis courts and 4 pickle ball courts. It spans a little less than 9 acres and is very well maintained. The courts are free to use and cannot be reserved. They are first come, first served. The park feeds into a very nice paved trail that runs along a canal. There is a lot of decent green space here that was being used for youth flag football while I was there. The park also has a few picnic tables, benches water fountains and grills around the park for visitors to use. I did not see a playground or any shelters while I was there (but I saw them in older park photos). They must have been removed a some point. Anyway, it is still a decent park and is popular among pickle ballers, tennis players, and walkers. read more

Clean and fun place to play pickle ball. Played for 3 hours last Sunday. Everyone friendly.

I've come here to play tennis on weekends (morning/evening). There are 2 tennis courts, 2 backboards, and 4 pickleball courts, all pretty new. Lots of parking, decent view of Camelback, and some trees that slowly produce shade on the courts nearing sunset. There are huge lights that automatically turn on in the evenings. Getting a free court is kinda a toss up, but it's usually full after the sun sets. Nice dirt walking/biking path (Arizona Canal Trail) along the water, lots of grassy shaded area to lay a blanket, as well as two sand volleyball courts (bring your own net though). Check out Arizona Falls on the other side of the parking lot to learn about hydroelectricity where it smells kinda fishy! read more

Since I was already out of the car for the Arizona Falls (btw, don't miss that on the other end of the parking lot), my group decided to walk on over here to this little park. What's not to love? Big trees, tennis courts, volleyball, a big expanse of grass for your dog (I saw a few, just don't have one myself). You can even access this park via a walk on the canal. I don't think I'd enjoy it in the heat of the summer (July or August), but in February, this was a perfect little park to enjoy the outdoors for a few minutes. read more

I love neighborhood parks with character. This park fits the bill perfectly. It has tennis courts, grass, open space, dogs, people, dirt, trees and water. What more could you want? (Oh! If you are lucky you'll find some stray tennis balls hiding in the trees!) Enjoy this little park. You can't miss it as it is right on Indian School Road. Bring your dog or pet gerbil here for some outdoor fun, sit for a while and enjoy the ambience. read more

Many people come for tennis, but the volley courts are great as well. Sometimes the water sprayer closest to the benches on the men's court breaks but it is usually fixed very quickly. Me and my friends come multiple times a week, I would definitely recommend this park. read more

Not too far away from Downtown Scottsdale, you'll find GR Herberger Park. This is a great location to play tennis, with four public and free tennis courts, all lighted. Just be wary of choosing the west most tennis court, as one of the lights is out as of 11/20/17. The tennis courts themselves are serviceable, but the lines are faded and courts themselves are pretty dirty. If you're breaking out some new tennis balls, just keep that in mind. Other than those minor issues, the nets are great and there are no cracks in the courts which can be an issue at older facilities. The courts are definitely popular - I went at 7:30pm on a Monday and all the courts were taken. You'll see some group lessons and other friends playing, so snag a court as soon as you can. The park also has two sand volleyball courts and plenty of open space. Can't go wrong coming here. read more

Newly paved tennis courts, but they took two away and made Pickle ball courts. I don't get the sport, it's like tennis without all the exercise. But, they were full. With two courts left, it's a crap shoot to get a court, but it worked out for us. They have lights, but didn't stay long enough to see if they come in. All in all, it is a good place to go play tennis. Fun and if you hit your ball over the fence, you can go get it. Not so much in other public courts. read more

If you are driving by the park along Indian School Rd between 6-8PM on any given weeknight, you will see the glimmer of my Head Radical Graphite Tour Pro effortlessly placing backspin onto my pickleball shots. This park used to be a haven for competitive pickleball, however it is now overrun by casual first time players who clog up the courts and slow the games down for people who want to actually play. If you aren't a 5/6 level, please stay home and play patty cake with your mother instead. read more

The facilities are great but the people that play pickleball here are snobs to anyone outside of their click. God forbid you try to play in rotation as a beginner. So unwelcoming and unfriendly. They act as if they own the place and anyone that doesn't play at their level is an inconvenience to them. Twice now I've had this experience there. A real shame since public parks are for everyone to enjoy. Apparently not this one. read more
