In August 2013 I got my dreadlocks out in Portland, OR - upon my return to chi-town I realized I didn't know what to do with them to keep then "neat" lol. All of the you tube videos didn't help. I was considering having my natural dreads extended & had a free half hour consultation with Erin to talk about all the options. She explained everything very well & was very clear about prices. She didn't try to push me into deciding one way or another, which I really appreciate. After thinking about it for a while I decided not go for extensions but just do a maintenance instead. Erin works extremly fast and, to my surprise she did it with a technique that did not hurt as much as previous maintenance sessions at other salons! Maintenance of natural dreadlocks means working close to the roots of your hair which can be a bit of a pain sometimes. Let me first say that I'm not a girl with dreadlocks or extensions (love them, just not on me with a semi-corporate job). I say that because from the reviews it looks like it's a popular spot for non-traditional styles. I'm here to say it's great for the more traditional styles too! I had a bad cut two times ago where the chick went nuts with choppy layers. My good friend tried to fix it last cut, but I was unwilling to let her take off length so I still had chops. Alyse cured all of that with this last cut. My hair moves so well and doesn't look chunky. Her expert blending without sections of blunt layers makes my fine hair fabulous! I've been getting my hair cut and colored by Erin for several years, I first went to her at Strange Beauty Show (salon). Erin does great with my fine hair and is really helpful when coloring, which we seem to change up seasonally. She's also active with other fashion/hair industry events and seems to keep her salon and approach fresh and modern. Erin has been great with customer service - I use the online appointment system quite a bit, she provides product samples, and makes you feel comfortable as a customer (I'm not great with fashion/hair, so this counts with me). I made an appointment with Erin, one of the owners, and the moment we started chatting, I knew this was my new "go-to" salon. I probably spent a good 6 months searching for a hair stylist to cut my 4-year old Sisterlocks (hundreds of small dreadlocks for those unfamiliar with them). After searching online, I came across G Spot Hair Design. I made an appointment with Erin through email, which was very easy to do. Such knowledge and talent! Alyse knew how to execute exactly what I wanted, which was an asymmetrical roundish bob and blue peekaboo color. She walked me along each process so that I understood what she was doing and why it works for my specific hair color and texture - near black and stick straight but smooth.
