Her spot is conveniently located near Millennium Park, so I was able to come by during my lunch break. I got a take down and a relaxer. She worked really efficiently (no doubling up on clients at the same booking, no talking on the phone while she was doing my hair, aka all those annoying things you often get). So I had my first appointment with Tiffany yesterday and LOVED it. I called that morning and she was able to see me that afternoon. My hair looks great! I had a partial sew in put in. Tiffany was punctual and had me in the chair as soon as I came in even though she was still dealing with a client that came in late (RUDE). She was attentive and listened to what I wanted. I am an African-American woman and have a very thin grade of hair. She paid attention to the needs of my particular hair type and treated my hair accordingly. She was quick and efficient and my sew in's are tight, neat, and fabulous. I love that I didn't have to be at the salon all day. I found Tifany through a CL posting. I was really interested in trying a sew-in extension application. I like big hair, and when I tried tape in they tended to look stringy after a few hours. After I arrived she gave me a short consultation asking all the right questions.. What have I done with my hair, what am I trying to achieve, and warning me of the possible pain of the braids! Lol. I could tell she was a professional because she didn't blow smoke up you know where. She actually expressed concern over the hair and method I chose. I assured her I would be fine. Like others have said the process only took about 2 hours! It's day three, and I am still in love with my hair! If you are skeptical don't be! Went to Tiffany today at about 1pm. I must say that I was nervous because I knew no one that had gone to her and so I was taking a chance based on my fellow yelpers. I arrived promptly and as soon as I hung up my coat I was already in her chair and she was getting started on my hair. We talked the whole time and before I knew it, it was already 245 and Tiffany was done! 2 hours to get the Malaysian technique done and I was set to go. I have never brought hair from a stylist, so Im hoping that this hair is premium quality and that there is no shedding. First off, I want to say: LOVE TIFFANY! As a fellow Yelper, I thrive on reviews and after reading all of her reviews, I decided to keep an open mind because she does have 4 stars and there are more good reviews as opposed to bad reviews. Also, as someone that works in customer service, I know that people lie/exaggerate, are full of drama and love to embellish. Don't get me wrong, I am not discrediting anyone else's experience, but I have learned to take them with a grain of salt. I moved to Chicago 2 1/2 years ago from San Diego and until 2 months ago, I was at a loss for another local stylist, so I flew back to San Diego. I tried a new technique that didn't work, not because of the stylist, but because I got the wrong hair. I was so stressed due to the holidays and with my travel schedule that I had no idea who was going to fix my hair, so I did a Yelp review. The thing that set Tiffany apart from other "black" stylists was the fact that I took the time to look at her photos and not only is she diverse with her clients, she is also forward moving and progressive with techniques. As a matter of fact, she is the FIRST black stylist that I have ever come across that is creative, innovative, and is keeping up with the times. I do not care for a full sew in and that's mainly what you will get when searching for black salons, so I was highly impressed with her portfolio. I was even more impressed when I met her. I called her on Wednesday late afternoon with my crisis and she got me in on Thursday at 10:00. Did I mention that she was early as well? The thing I detest most about salons, especially black salons/stylists is the constant overbooking and being tardy. Tiffany is very pleasant and don't pay attention to the negative reviews about her talking too much because she doesn't. Tiffany tries to establish a rapport and to get to know you; leaving me confident that if she does not hear from me for 2 months, I am confident that she will remember who I am based on our conversations. Don't get me wrong, Tiffany is sweet as pie. But, when I've been at work all day and I relish a little peace and quiet, I don't want someone over my head constantly asking if I'm okay, why I'm quiet and scolding me telling me that I don't talk enough.... Yes, I talk but I don't tell my entire life story to a complete stranger! Regarding the service.... After reading the many 5 star reviews that preceeded me, I was amped to see Tiffany and what she can do. I expected a fast sew-in and got that, no doubt. What I didn't get was her attention to detail. There were threaded knots hanging from the hair, the hair wasn't blended in properly, wefts in the front were bulky, and she didn't even tend to the hair that was left out; no pomade, bump with the curling iron, nothing. I had to ask her to curl my natural hair again to give it some bounce. To fix the bulky weft, I asked for a brush to fix it myself since she obviously didn't see an issue with the obvious look of a hair extension protruding from my hair. Needless to say, she didn't have one : / Overall, I got a lifeless bob that wasn't properly cut and I truly received what I got for 1.5 hours of service. It's not worth the $275 or $225 she charges, and I'm not sure I got her on a long, bad day but she has offered to fix my problems.... I just don't appreciate having to re-visit an issue that shouldn't have been in the first place and having to go home and sit in the mirror for an hour to fix a style that paid for. I'll start by saying that Tifany was AMAZING!! I moved to Chicago two months ago and finding a good stylist has been a hassle. After having one REALLY bad experience with a stylist here in town, I decided I was only going to give it one more shot. Tiffany is as good as it gets! My story goes back to late May 2013 when my hair keratin hair extensions (that were supposed to be done by a professional) turned to be the worst experience ever. I looked like a drowned rat- at top it off this was right before my wedding. I ended up finding Hair by Anais from reading Yelp reviews and I decided to call her. I can't tell you how nervous I was to talk to her and hand my hair over to hair (do to this bad experience). Had a wonderful experience at Hair By Anais! I found Tifany after I tried to go to the Chicago Hair Extensions Salon - I called them and set up an appointment for a consultation, but when I arrived they told me they don't do sew-in extensions anymore (despite having been told on the phone that they did) as the girl who did them left the salon. I was quite upset when I left and I found Tifany by chance on yelp and called her as soon as I got back to my car. She heard what had happened and fit me in for a consultation later that day (I called around 11am and saw her at 3pm). She was so friendly and talked me through the process of getting extensions since it was my first time and I wasn't sure what to expect. The client she was working on at the time raved to me about how great Tifany's work and service were and her praise was not misplaced. Tiffany's prices were fair and she even ordered the hair for me (which was its own source of anxiety since I didn't want to get crappy synthetic stuff that would melt as soon as I took a hot iron to it). The hair was natural human hair so it was soft and beautiful. She was able to schedule me in the next week and I was in and out in no time! Tifany works fast, does a great job, and is wonderful company. She's easy to reach in case you have any issues and provides cheap removal and reinstallation. I absolutely loved my extensions (I have shaved sides so had two 22" bundles) and I got SO MANY compliments on my hair over the holidays. I have no idea how the reviews are so high. I went to her and she threw away BRAND NEW and UNUSED extensions because she "didn't know what to do with them." How about asking me first? And refunding my money that she threw in the trash? Which she didn't, by the way. Tiffany is Super Sweet and nice. She works with you regarding what you want and makes herself available to you on short notice. She really cares about her clients.
